Before I get into my rant, here is my very quick review where I parrot what everyone else has been saying:
Beautifully written, Bone Gap is a refreshingly different YA novel with a hypnotizing narrative and fascinating characters. I loved seeing their stories revealed amidst the magical realism of the story. Bone Gap itself was a fantastic setting that functioned almost as an extra character.
TL;DR -> read this book!
I’ve talked before about how much I enjoy many of the retellings in YA in a previous review, and this book once again shows why this trend deserves more academic attention. For anyone who isn’t aware (which I certainly wasn’t until I got about 60% of the way through the book… oops), Bone Gap draws from the story of Hades and Persephone. The myth of how the goddess of spring came to be in the Underworld has been a popular story for millennia, and in the past few decades it has (rightfully) faced some not-so-favorable scrutiny.

Figured I should repost the fanart I did for Receiver of Many, since I switched tumblr handles over the years. I did these in 2015-2016 (wow, time flies), so here’s part 1. A bunch of Persephone and Aidoneus illustrations and facial concepts!
Receiver of Many is a retelling of the Persephone/Hades greek myth. It’s one of my favorite books. @therkalexander is now working on the sequel, The Good Counselor, so head over there if you’re interested!

Hoping everything with the show is okay💜
(Without you telling things you probably can’t tell) does that mean you still haven’t found Persephone? You found Hades and Aphrodite a couple of months ago right?

We haven’t found a Persephone, we do have a Hades and an Aphrodite. I’m excited too, but this has been one snafu after another, followed by a fucking pandemic that destroyed our funding right before my pen was about to hit the paper, followed by very good news, followed by another stop because they have to deal with another potential issue. So I’m right back where I started. If this gets off the ground it will be amazing but I feel like I’ve been idling at the start of the runway for a while.
For the time being I’m concentrating on the stuff I can control, which is finishing The Good Counselor, editing the manuscript, and getting the preorder posted for everyone as soon as I finish the first draft.

I’m so happy that people like this line, because I was so unsure about whether or not it would work when I wrote it.
Honestly, this is a line I would get tattooed I love it so much. I just haven’t come up with a design for it yet

They’ve arrived! A Christmas present rather than a birthday one, but a treat nonetheless. @therkalexander (Rachel Alexander’s) lovely books on Hades and Persephone, a story I had the pleasure of reading while it was still being published on fanfic sites… And is now in the works to become a tv series! How time flies! The language is amazing and the amount of details and research that went into these is worthy of praise. All the best to Rachel 🌹🌿

There are 24 chapters in this book and it stands at over 105,000 words. I am almost done. As soon as it’s finished, I’ll to post a preorder link on Kindle and commission a cover from Morgan, who did the first two covers.
