#31: Day of the Dead & Creepshow
The first entry is a tie simply because one of the two of these movies would have been left off and that just wasn't right. Both were great low budget 80s horror films directed by George Romero back when Romero was still Romero. I still remember that day when I was in kindergarten and my mother picked me up with her co-worker and we went straight to the movie theater to see Creepshow. I covered my eyes at the really scary parts, but I was rapt the whole way through.
I didn't discover Day of the Dead until after I was married. My wife had seen this and the original Dawn of the Dead when she was younger and we would rent the videocassettes to either one so frequently I eventually bought them for her.
The storyline to Day was supposed to be so much larger in scope than what the studio allowed him to do. There were supposed to be zombie guards that would savage oncoming zombies that tried to get into the compound and I think Dr. Frankenstein was supposed to be a lot more goulish than he was, but budgetary constraints put Romero on a leash.
Creepshow was a great movie because it was fun. A handsome, young Ed Harris gets a headstone dropped on him, dancing to that hip song "Don't Let Go", King's skin issues, roaches, and Wilma. You just don't get more awful than her. Although Henry turned out to be a lot more diabolical than you'd have guessed.[image error]
Top 31 Horror Movies: A Caveat
You're not gonna be happy with this. First of all, I had to pare down the list because 100 was just too many. I would have wound up with a watered-down list that would have had people scratching their heads and asking, "How'd that get on the list?" And I'm bound to have forgotten something so I figured it was best to go with a list of strong contenders almost everyone could agree belonged on the list, though not necessarily in the order submitted. Fifty was still to many; I capped out at 48 and some of the ones that got scrapped might be an afront to some. Movies like Audition, The Sixth Sense, and The People Under the Stairs simply didn't rank high enough. Hey, I loved all three, they just weren't good enough. I hope you will enjoy, nonetheless.
First Book Signing
No, not an event, but the actual book. I am so geeked that someone would actually want my signature on something.[image error]
Blue
This is one of the first stories I wrote after I began writing again. Really basic stuff. I'd guess that I wrote this around 1999. Oh, and this is under the "Where's Paul Now?" link.

The 9
Wow. There actually 9 members to this site now. I'm actually kind of proud. For a guy who's flying by the seat of his pants and learning everything as he goes, I feel like I've actually done something considering I've attracted 8 other people to travel down this path with me.

On-line Novel
For the longest time I've wanted to do a stand-alone on-line novel, but never found the time. I'm glad to say I've finally come up with a viable idea and the enthusiasm to get it done. I typically need something to go along with whatever I'm writing so this will make a nice partner story for when I get a little burned out on TGO.
Can't say too much about it right now. I have a tendency to shoot my mouth off at times, but it's about zombies. I've written one zombie story (which will be in my short story collection), but this one will be significantly different from anything else I've ever read. And I've read 2 whole zombie books.
Death by Haiku
Be on the lookout for a new link on the left. "Death by Haiku"- I call it that because for a while during my poetry phase I went on a haiku tear. I wrote 200+. I also have another zombie poem to put up called "Petite Morte". I wrote that one back in 2001 or so.
And now that I've raided my old computer other things may begin showing up. I have to read through things, but be on the lookout.

Bag of Blood
So I donated blood the other day. Strangely enough, I wasn't as nervous as I typically have been. I walked in, told the gentleman at the table I had an appointment and signed in. He gave me a card which turned out to not indicate I had an appointment already and I and the woman ahead of me were leapfrogged by the woman who came after us who did get a blue appointment card.
But I finally got in a seat and verified and when I came to the table I told the phlebotomist I wanted my blood...
Got My Books
Got my books yesterday. We're a close circle here, I think I can reveal to you my plan. I've friended Anqunette Jamison at Fox 2 and a few months back I asked if they do interviews there for authors. Q interviewed a psychic about her book, I figured, why not me? And especially with October being right around the corner. Yes, this is going in the mail today along with a copy of my Media Kit.
