Orgasmic Meditation: My Kind of Sex Teacher

After nine years together, having a child, and watching our sex life falter a bit amidst attachment parenting, professional turbulence, marital ennui, and the effects of aging, my hubby and I have been thinking about trying something new, either in the bedroom - or out of it.

You Effed Up Again, Summer's Eve

I thought last year's Summer's Eve campaign was horrendous enough. After they asked me to be their spokesperson (and I said "No freakin' way - it's supposed to smell like a vagina) I was appalled at their advertorial in Woman's Day magazine that offered up tips for how to ask your boss for a raise. Nobody mentioned things like "Hey, you know how I come up with the most creative ideas in the board room and we land boatloads of accounts because of my brilliance." Nope, instead, the #1 tip for asking your boss for a raise was WASH YOUR VAGINA. You sure wouldn't want to show up with a stinky cooch when you're asking for the big bucks. (You can read the whole story here).

Terrorism In Norway: Where's The Love?

We'd like to believe that the Holocaust could never happen again. Surely, we've learned from the slaughter of millions that we as people are all one, and there is no superior or inferior race, no racial cleansing necessary, no needless murder justified. According to this CNN article, a picture is emerging of the Norwegian terrorist who murdered at least 86 people between his ambush on Utoya Island and the government buildings he simultaneously bombed in Oslo. The suspect, who has been arrested and has plead not guilty, is 32-year-old Norwegian Anders Behring Breivik. Apparently, he is a right-wing Christian fundamentalist who may have had an issue with Norway's multi-cultural society. Jonas Kallmyr is quoted as saying that encountering Breivik was "like meeting Hitler before World War II."

You're Healed If You Think You Are

As research for my upcoming book The Prescription: 5 Spiritual Steps To Healing Yourself From Illness, Trauma, Or Loss, I have been digging deep into the medical literature, going back as far as the 1920's into medical journals in order to find cold, hard science to prove what I have long believed - that we hold within us self-healing superpowers that are stronger than any chemotherapy and more effective than any surgery.

Let's Give Casey Anthony A Break

Clearly, the girl's got problems. Her daughter disappears and she fails to report it. She probably made a mongo mistake even becoming a mother in the first place. She'd be well served to reform her party girl ways. She's pretty much lost all her friends and family. Plus, she sacrificed the past few years of her life to jail time, which can't have helped her professional life - and God only knows what else probably happened to her in prison.

How To Have "The Talk" With Your Daughter

As part of my UbyKotex corporate spokesperson job, I was recently interviewed by Breezy Mama about how to have "the talk" about puberty, periods, and sexual development with your daughter. Since I'm already having the talk and many of you might need to do the same, I wanted to share it with you here!

Cancer Ain't Gonna Win If I Have Anything To Say About It

As I wrote about in my post Damn You, Cancer, Cancer and I have been going mano-a-mano lately. I'm grateful I'm not battling it personally, but it seems to be all around me these days.

The Story Of An Imperfect Woman

I know an imperfect woman who makes lots of mistakes, fails to live up to traditional models of what a good woman would be like, and insists upon doing many things people think she shouldn't do.

When Docs Get Annoyed At Empowered Patients

I felt my ire rise when I read this article on CNN about how patients are giving their doctors headaches. Apparently, this video entitled "The Patient Who Knows Too Much", which is part of a training program aimed at doctors to help them deal with "difficult patients," has caused quite a stir.

The Doctor-Patient Relationship: Part Two

Last week I wrote about the Doctor-Patient Relationship of the broken, outdated, patriarchal health care system of The Old Medicine.
Today, I'm going out on a limb to suggest a new kind of Doctor-Patient Relationship, the kind we will practice in The New Medicine. Here goes nothing.
