Turning the Tables

Jason stepped out of the portal, looking around to make sure Bothan wasn’t waiting to spring another trap.

“This way, Jason.”

He saw his ancestor in the distance, riding at an easy trot toward the most inhospitable area he had ever seen. The clouds see...

Confrontation

Reyga sent a green flare of power at a hissing Trellin before it could bring its sword down on the back of an unsuspecting warrior.

“My thanks!” the man gasped, as he turned and realized what had happened.

Reyga turned his horse away, swinging his staff in...

Life’s Little Alphabet – ‘C’ is for Communication

[image error]I don’t think it would be a stretch to say that more problems and misunderstandings throughout history have been caused by lack of communication than anything else. These days, it seems like more and more people think “communication” involves shouting louder than the other person. Um, no. That’s not communication; that’s chaos.

Communication between two parties involves accurate—not exaggerated—information flowing in both directions, being imparted and received (that’s a common stumbling bloc...

Battle for Teleria

Gatlor wheeled his horse toward Bodann’s army and charged forward, the Haven forces right behind him. An instant later, the enemy began their own roaring, hissing charge. He watched the enemy ranks spread out, as the leading creatures opened space betw...

Creator of Worlds

[image error]The fiction writer is a creator of worlds and a purveyor of dreams.

In his mind he sees things that no one has ever seen before, experiences events never before witnessed, for until he has dreamed them, they have not yet begun to exist.

With her words she brings her visions into our world, into the hearts and minds of those souls who pore over every sentence and every paragraph of her creation. Each letter is an atom in that newly born world, each word a molecule, each sentence an object to b...

Landscar

The two armies faced each other from opposite ends of Landscar, a jagged arc of rocky hills at the edge of the Riftlands. Shimmering waves of heat rose from the cracked earth, and the sun was not yet at its zenith. Jason, Seryn, and a number of students from the...

Life’s Little Alphabet – ‘B’ is for Believe

[image error]A wise sage from my favorite, albeit short-lived, science fiction series once told the misbehavin’ hero, “I don’t care what you believe. Just believe in it!”

That’s astute advice for all of us, because the things we believe, or disbelieve, will impact every single decision we ever make in our lives. Now, before we get too far, let me say that when I talk about beliefs, I’m not necessarily talking about religious beliefs. We also have philosophical beliefs, political beliefs, beliefs about rel...

Knocking on Doors

Tal sat in his chambers, staring blindly at the candle on the table. He had not gone down for Firstmeal this morning. The conversation with Jason Bennett the night before filled his mind, pushing thoughts of food aside.

Jason had told them about his dre...

Make Today Matter

[image error]Time passes quickly.

In today’s world, the days go by faster and faster all the time. It seems like we barely have time to sit down before the next thing is demanding our attention. Bills, responsibilities, appointments, obligations, etc… All coming at us in a constant blur. Before we know it, years have gone by that we can never get back.

The message is simple:

Stop being so busy making a living that you forget to make a life.

Think about it.

Let’s take a random date in our future, say Jun...

Deceptions

Gatlor smiled with grim satisfaction. He was staring at the back of the enemy army from the top of a rise behind which he, a hundred archers, and a score of saiken waited. Although initially skeptical of Jason Bennett’s claim, he had been convinced when Jason...
