Write a Better World (So, I did a thing)

2020 was a difficult year for many of us. Well, let’s face it: 2020 sucked. A global pandemic. Politics tearing families and friends (and almost countries) apart. People struggling financially, emotionally, physically, and so many other ways. It just wasn’t pretty. Honestly, people struggle every year, but something about 2020 was extra.

When I published my first book, my goal was to become a successful writer. Of course, the definition of “successful” will vary from person to person. As of t...

Check and Mate

If you have Netflix, but haven’t yet watched their brilliant limited (7 episodes) series, The Queen’s Gambit, may I humbly suggest you set aside some time to watch this wonderful show. Don’t be fooled by the splash screen or the title into thinking this is just another show about chess. Although the strategy game provides the backdrop (and quite a few surprisingly tense scenes), this is a story about one player’s journey overcoming life’s hurtles and personal demons to achieve true excellenc...

Life’s Little Alphabet – ‘K’ is for Knowledge

At some point in your life, you’ve probably heard someone say, “Knowledge is power.” But what exactly does that mean? Does knowledge give you super strength? Invisibility? Super speed? No, of course not. But then again, you knew it wasn’t any of those anyway. Well then, could you read a lot of books, take some classes, or sit at the feet of a wise guru and gain some kind of power? You’re getting warmer. It’s actually much simpler, and yet much more important than that.

Simply put, the pow...

Four Little Words That Will Change Your Life

Are you trying to make a change? Trying to chart a new course for your life? If so, tell me: What do you want to be? Now ask yourself one question: What are you?

What are you? It may sound like an odd question, but how you answer it will play a large part in how successful you are in achieving your goals. Allow me to explain, using my own personal experience.

For a long time, I struggled with my writing. You see, I’m the type of person who doesn’t like putting myself “out there.” Maybe...

SENSELESS AGAIN – My second experience in a Sensory Deprivation Tank

I did my second session in a Sensory Deprivation tank this past Saturday. You can read about my first time here. I was hoping a second session might bring me a little closer to the answers I’ve been seeking. This time, I decided to book the float tank, which is a little larger than the float pod I was in the first time, just to see if it would help. It was a mixed bag of things that went better, things that went worse, and things that pretty much stayed the same.
What went better:
The tank, as...

SENSELESS – My first time in a Sensory Deprivation Tank

The idea of sensory deprivation tanks has interested me for years. It’s also known as Float Therapy, floating, or REST (Restricted Environmental Stimulation Technique) therapy. This past weekend, I finally had the opportunity to try it at the Theta Float Spa in Springfield, MO. To be perfectly honest, it wasn’t exactly what I was expecting. However, in retrospect, that may have been the whole problem; I went in with expectations. I’d read articles and watched videos about other’s experiences whi...

Is It Worth the Price?

MoneyBookPlease note: In this post, I use my own invested time, money, and prices, but this is going to apply to almost any author out there, especially the self-published ones such as myself.

A good friend of mine recently posted a link to my latest book, Redemption’s Edge, on Facebook. One of his friends commented that the book was “only 200 pages” and asked if it was worth the price. They didn’t specify whether they were talking about the print version (220 pages) or the Kindle version (203 pages). Ei...

New Release!!

RedemptionsEdgeKindleThere’s a new literary bird in the wild! This past weekend, I released Redemption’s Edge, another fantasy novel, unrelated to the Far Land Trilogy.

Here is the back cover blurb:

The most unrelenting evil of all is the one which believes itself good.

An unintended evil stalks the land, gathering countless victims to itself as it extends its reach; an evil born of the noblest intentions gone horribly awry. After it claims his only remaining family, young Kelwyn vows to track it down and end it, no...

My Latest Project: Life 2.0

[image error]So, I took a bit of a detour in my writing. I had a title pop into my head, “Life 2.0.” As soon as the title started rattling around in my brain, I knew it would be a self-help book. Now, I’m not a self-help guru. My chosen genres are fantasy and science fiction. I’m not a life coach or career coach; I don’t have the alphabet marching along behind my name proclaiming all my degrees. But, I figured, why not g...“
