Blues Concert is November 25
Roomful of Blues will play at the Iron Horse Music Hall in Northampton on November 25 at 7 p.m. In a positive review, Down Beat magazine, which has been published every month since 1934, said Roomful of Blues is “in a class by itself.” The band will play concerts next month in Washington, DC and in California in April. Fight is On for Better Trains in the Valley
Activists are working to improve passenger train service in the Valley. “Our two main goals are more frequent train service between Greenfield and Springfield, and faster and more frequent trains between Springfield and Boston,” Ben Heckscher, Jr. of TrainsInTheValley.org told the Valley Post in a November 7 telephone interview.
Traveling by train rather than by car is better for the environment, and safer.

For Peace, Against Pollution
War tax resistors from around the nation will host a public event in Amherst on November 3 at 7 p.m. Stopping construction of fossil fuel pipelines is the goal of a march in Northampton on November 5 at 5:30 p.m.
Sam Koplinka-Loehr will moderate a panel at the peace event. “I am a war tax resister because I believe a better world is possible,” she told the Valley Post. More information is at:

Keene March for Women's Rights
In Keene, about 80 people marched against sexual assault. One-third of women experience sexual violence or intimate partner violence, organizers said. 18 Protesters Arrested
In Springfield, 18 people were arrested for nonviolent civil disobedience on October 14. They were protesting president Trump's plan to deport Springfield resident Lucio Perez to Guatemala. Perez has lived in the USA since 1999. His wife and children live in Springfield. One of the groups that organized the protest has a web site at www.pvWorkersCenter.org.
Workers Unite
In Vermont, 539 low wage workers have formed a union. Fifteen of the workers are in Brattleboro. They are professors at the Community College of Vermont (CCV), which has campuses around the state. “I sometimes have trouble paying my rent. Other professors do too,” Kathleen Moore told the Valley Post in a telephone interview on October 14. She has taught at CCV for almost a decade.
