Reggae Singer from Jamaica to Play Near Brattleboro
When N.L. Dennis was singing in a recording studio with Toots and the Maytals, Bob Marley stopped by to listen. Marley praised Dennis's delivery. Today, Dennis lives in his native Jamaica and joins hundreds of Jamaicans who come to Vermont every summer in search of better paying work. Most of them work on vegetable farms and at apple orchards. 400 at Rallies for Immigrant Rights
On July 18 in Springfield there will be a rally to stop a giant corporate bank from evicting a low-income family from the family's home. The following local newspapers are owned by out-of-state corporations: Hampshire Gazette, Amherst Bulletin, Brattleboro Reformer, Springfield Republican, Greenfield Recorder, and Valley Advocate. Rally Outside Greenfield Immigrant Jail
On July 12 there will be rallies to protest Trump's treatment of immigrants. The rallies will be outside the Greenfield, Massachusetts immigrant jail, and in downtown Putney, Vermont. Putney is about 10 minutes from Brattleboro by bus. The Greenfield rally starts at 5:30 p.m. outside 160 Elm Street. The Putney rally, which includes a candlelight vigil, starts at 8:30 p.m. at the corner of Main Street and Kimball Hill Road.

Land Trust Stiffs Brattleboro Area
The U.S. is losing 6,000 acres of open space to development every day, according to the Trust for Public Land. The Vermont Land Trust (VLT) is working to protect open space, which is one of the best ways to stop climate change. A Valley Post special investigation reveals that, over the past decade, VLT -- which gets most of its funding from taxpayers all over Vermont -- has focused its efforts much more heavily in the northern part of the state, versus the four southern counties of Vermont.

Activists Fight for Nature
On June 25 a group that is fighting planned logging on publicly owned land near Greenfield said the logging will likely start soon. “On June 24, the loggers began installing gates on Carlton Road and Dirth Road in Wendell (Massachusetts) State Forest.
