On June 6 the annual town meeting in Sunderland, Massachusetts will be held outdoors at 4 p.m. People are required to wear a face mask and, if they want to sit on a chair, they should bring a chair. Sunderland borders Amherst. At the meeting people will decide whether to save 40 acres of open space in town from development.

Reggae Singer from Jamaica to Play in Brattleboro

When N.L. Dennis was singing in a recording studio with Toots and the Maytals, Bob Marley stopped by to listen. Marley praised Dennis's delivery. Today, Dennis lives in his native Jamaica and joins hundreds of Jamaicans who come to Vermont every summer in search of better paying work. Most of them work on vegetable farms and at apple orchards. Indigo Girls Concert is May 14 at 7 p.m.

The June 2020 Northampton Indigo Girls concert has been postponed due to the virus. But the band will play a live, free concert on their Facebook page on May 14 at 7 p.m. A similar concert on May 7 was excellent. The Indigo Girls have a new album coming out on May 22. The Valley Post has a copy but has not yet listened to all of it. The song "Howl at the Moon" on the new album is outstanding.

Jobs With Justice

More than 80 people took part in car rallies in Holyoke and Springfield on May 1. The same day in Brattleboro about 50 people took part in a car rally. The rallies were for workers' rights. The Massachusetts rallies were organized by the Pioneer Valley Workers' Center. The Brattleboro rally was organized by the Vermont Workers' Center.

Three Rallies on May 1

On May 1 there will be car rallies in Brattleboro at 12:30 p.m., in Holyoke at 2 p.m., and in Springfield at 4 p.m. The rallies are for workers' rights. All three are caravans. A similar rally in Greenfield on April 24 drew more than 100 people. The Brattleboro rally starts at the high school parking lot and will pass grocery stores and hospitals. It's being organized by the Vermont Workers' Center and other groups.

Greenfield Rally is April 24 at 2:15 p.m.

Farmland Saved

On April 9, a land trust in Keene announced it had permanently protected 37 acres of farmland in Chesterfield, New Hampshire from development. Chesterfield borders Brattleboro.
