A Hot June for Valley Marches, Rallies

Democracy and the kind of extreme economic inequality that now exists in the USA are incompatible. Unions reduce inequality. In Brattleboro on June 15 there was a well-attended union rally, seen in the below photo. A follow up rally is set for June 22. Details are available from Sy Creamer, the union president. 15,000 Take to the Valley's Streets

In the Valley in the past few weeks, thousands more people marched than earlier reported. They were protesting racist white police officers who kill unarmed African Americans. On June 5, the Valley Post reported that “at least 5,000 people” had marched in the Valley. That estimate did not include 3,000 or so people who marched in Springfield on June 3. More information about who organized the local marches, and their specific demands, is at:

General strikes have shut down American cities in the past -- Seattle for six days in 1919, San Francisco for four days in 1934. Strikes created the American middle class. Maybe they can fix policing and challenges like climate c...

Nature, Justice

On June 6 the annual town meeting in Sunderland, Massachusetts will be held outdoors at 4 p.m. People are required to wear a face mask and, if they want to sit on a chair, they should bring a chair. Sunderland borders Amherst. At the meeting people will decide whether to save 40 acres of open space in town from development.
