Simba Concert Planned for June
Simba will perform a public concert in Dummerston, Vermont, near Brattleboro, on or around June 20. The concert will probably be at the Grange hall at the corner of East-West and Middle roads in Dummerston. At a recent Simba concert, at least 100 people danced for hours. The band plays reggae and funk, among other kinds of music.
680 Acres Saved Near Greenfield, Brattleboro
In a victory for forest protection, 680 acres near Brattleboro and Greenfield was saved from development. The forestland is in Readsboro, Vermont, about 15 miles from Brattleboro and 20 miles from Greenfield. It was protected on March 26 by the Trust for Public Land www.tpl.org

1,700 at Springfield Rally for Justice
There were rallies for justice in Springfield on March 31 and April 2. About 1,700 people attended the March 31 rally, which was the bigger of the two. The bigger rally was to support Trayvon Martin, and to protest racist police. Martin was an unarmed African American teenager who was shot and killed in Florida in February by George Zimmerman. The government has failed to charge Zimmerman with any crime; he is free.

U.S. Senator to Speak at Rally to Close Valley Nuke
United States senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont will speak in Brattleboro April 14 at a noon rally to close the Vermont Yankee nuclear power plant, said Deb Katz. She's director of the Citizens Awareness Network www.NukeBusters.org Afro-beat band Fenibo www.fenibo.com will play at the rally, which ends at 2 p.m. The rally will be at the Brattleboro town common (about 100 yards north of the town library) unless it rains, in which case it will be inside at Brattleboro high school.

War Vehicle Will Cost Keene Taxpayers
The federal Homeland Security department effectively gave the Keene police department an armored vehicle when the city council voted last year to accept a grant for the "Bearcat" vehicle. But the Bearcat will cost city taxpayers money.

Devil Makes Three Leader Will Play in Putney
