Simba Concert Is August 10

Simba will perform a free, outdoor public concert in Putney, Vermont, near Brattleboro, on August 10. At a recent Simba concert, at least 100 people danced for hours. The band plays reggae and funk, among other kinds of music.

Springfield Eviction Protests Are July 30, July 31

On July 30 and July 31 in Springfield, there will be protests against corporate banks outside the homes of two families who are facing eviction. Both actions are at 7 p.m. The rallies are being organized by the group that organized a protest in Springfield at Bank of America in November. Hundreds of people attended the protest; 15 were arrested for non-violent civil disobedience. Photos are at:

Valley Nuke Foes to Use Kayaks

On August 18, activists in kayaks and canoes will protest near the Vermont Yankee nuclear power plant, which is on the Connecticut river. The public is invited to join the protest. The event is being organized by the same group that organized a protest against Vermont Yankee in Brattleboro in March that drew 1,500 people, 137 of whom were arrested for non-violent civil disobedience. 470 Acres Saved

In the first half of 2012, a local land trust saved 470 acres of farmland, forestland, and wetlands from being turned into parking lots, strip malls, and other so-called “development.” Kristin DeBoer, the director of Kestrel Land Trust in Amherst, made the announcement on July 3.


Between January and June, the group saved the following Pioneer Valley land:


~147 acres of forestland, pasture, and wetlands on Teawaddle Hill Farm on Teawaddle Hill Road in Leverett, near Amherst;

40 Arrested at Valley Nuke Protest

Forty anti-nuclear activists were arrested July 1 for non-violent civil disobedience at the entrance to the Vermont Yankee nuclear power reactor. Supporters cheered from nearby. Vermont Yankee is three miles from Massachusetts and a stone's throw from New Hampshire. It's owned by Entergy corporation of Louisiana.
