Vieux Farka Toure Concert is September 18

Vieux Farka Toure and Julia Easterlin will perform a concert in Northampton on September 18 at 7 p.m. Toure is from the west African nation of Mali. Easterlin is from the USA. The concert will be at the Iron Horse Music Hall. On his current tour, Toure will perform at prestigious venues in Paris, New York City and San Francisco. A video of him performing is at:

Blues Concert Review

Luther Johnson and the Magic Rockers performed an excellent, public concert in Northampton on July 25. The Iron Horse Music Hall appeared to be almost sold out. The audience applauded enthusiastically after all the songs. Johnson sang, "She said, 'Luther, you don't have to be a superstar, I love you just the way you are.'"

A highlight was Johnson's version of the Jeannie Cheatham song "Meet Me With Your Black Drawers On."

Rail Trail Gets Better

Swanzey, New Hampshire (population 7,200) borders Keene and is about six miles from Massachusetts and Vermont. On August 1, town officials and the public will celebrate major improvements to Swanzey's bicycle and pedestrian trail, the 21-mile Ashuelot Rail Trail. The trail goes from Keene to Winchester, New Hampshire.

Blues Concert July 25: Luther Johnson

Luther Johnson and the Magic Rockers will perform a public concert in Northampton on July 25 at 7 p.m. Johnson, who is also known as Guitar Junior, was born in 1939 in Itta Bena, Mississippi. Johnson worked as guitarist and singer in Muddy Waters’s band for six years, starting in 1973. The Rolling Stones, and Rolling Stone magazine, were named after a Muddy Waters song.

Fracked Gas Rally is July 29

On July 29 in Greenfield, there will be a rally against a proposed fracked gas pipeline. The rally starts at 5 p.m. outside the Greenfield Middle School at 195 Federal Street. At 6:30 p.m. at the school, federal regulators will hold a public hearing about the proposal.

Most of the Valley is at Risk of Being 'Developed'

A new map of the the Connecticut River watershed in Massachusetts, southeast Vermont and southwest New Hampshire shows that the vast majority of the farmland and forestland is vulnerable to being converted to houses, roads, parking lots, and Walmart stores and similar commercial buildings.
