Groups Work to Reduce Noise
Activists in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Vermont are asking police to enforce existing laws against loud motorcycles. “Motorcycles come out of the factory quiet,” Ted Rueter told the Valley Post. “People illegally modify them so they make more noise.” Rueter works for Noise Free America, a group with chapters in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Vermont and a web site at www.NoiseFree.org.
Land Trust on Verge of Saving Farmland
Almost all the money needed to save 57 acres of farmland from development has been raised by a local land trust. The land is in New Hampshire, less than a mile from Massachusetts and Vermont. “We have raised a little over $250,000,” David Kotker told the Valley Post on August 20. “We still need to raise about $4,000.” Kotker works for the Mount Grace land trust, which has a web site at www.MountGrace.org.

Photo: Fracked Gas Rally
This photo was taken on August 6 in Northfield, Massachusetts, near Greenfield. It shows a rally at the site of a proposed pipeline that would carry fracked gas. A steady stream of cars passed by, many of whose drivers gave the protesters a thumbs up sign. The hour-long rally happens every Thursday. It starts at 4:30 p.m. To get there, from the corner of Main Street and Maple Street in Northfield, go 2.7 miles on Maple Street. Maple Street starts at Main Street and becomes Gulf Road.
