Introducing Wednesday Writing Prompt

I used to put up short writing exercises as a Monday Writing Prompt on this other site, but for various reasons, I haven’t done it for a couple months. And since it can take me a couple months to realize something, I just realized I should restart doing that here. And the reason I’m doing Wednesday now instead of Monday, is I thought of this late on a Tuesday and didn’t feel like waiting. So let’s begin.

You can read all you want about writing, but the real test is to actually write something....

The All-You-Can-Read Buffet

Buffet

Last month, I made a push on promoting my first short story anthology, A Man of Few Words. This month, I’m doing the same with my second anthology, The All-You-Can-Read Buffet. It contains forty stories covering various genres and themes ranging from six to over 4,200 words in length. They also cover a wide time range. Some of these stories I began writing a decade ago, while others were written especially for this collection. All together, they are a buffet of my writing. As such, I encourag...

Story idea give away

As I wrote for my first story idea give away, “I have a lot of story ideas. So many in fact, that – unless I start writing 10,000 words a day or live to be 900 – I will never write all of them. So what am I supposed to do? I think most of my story ideas are interesting and should be written, and if I can’t write them then someone else should. Therefore, I’ve decided that I should start writing up some of the ideas I know I’ll never write and put them out there for other people. All I ask is t...

Stephen L. Thompson’s January 2013 Newsletter

Howdy,

Welcome to my electronic newsletter, covering January 2013.

* * *

My publication news for the past month:

Publication of my short story “Rise” on Kindle.

* * *

This month I wrote 10,038 words. As I said last month, my goal this year is to write 120,000 words, so I am well on my way.

* * *

I wrote 10,000 words this month, putting me on track to meet my goal, but I’m a bit unhappy with my work. I had hoped to put a lot of those words towards my novel None of Them Knew the Color of the Sky by wri...

10,000 words and counting

As I pointed out in my December Newsletter, one of my goals for this year was to write 120,000 words, which nicely works out to having to write 10,000 words each month. Now in all of 2012, I only wrote more than 10,000 words during the month April when I was doing my 30 Stories in 30 Days Challenge. But I am happy to announce that as of today, I have written just over 10,000 words in January and I still have two days left. Hitting 120,000 words may not be as challenging as I thought.

Coming soon, “Rise”

Rise3

“Rise” is a short story set in my Human Republic Universe concerning the response to the tragic deaths of all the colonists of the Trident Colony. I need to give the story another polish and format it for Kindle, but I should have all of that done by sometime next week. So there will be more information on that coming soon.

In addition to promoting my new ebook, I also want to promote Sandra Giles of Words From Another World who designed the cover. So while you wait for me to finish my part of...

My projects for this year

There are a lot of writing things I want to do this year. At one point, I started making a list of all I wanted to work on, but I stopped when I hit thirty. Many of those projects are short stories I want to finish or polish up and submit, but here is a list of some of the bigger projects I want to work on this year.

Finish None of Them Knew the Color of the Sky. This is a novel I’ve been working on for several years now. It’s set a few centuries after a nuclear war, and some time ago I came u...
