Updates and Other

I am rejoining the e-world after an emotional crash in November. In November, I deleted my blogs, my twitter account, and Facebook. I quickly replaced Facebook because of friends and family. But I needed the time off from the e-world to get myself focused on my new book (The Pinata-Maker's Daughter) and to give myself a break from the weight of the self-inflicted to-do list. I discovered Squidoo, which I enjoy a lot.

I am now 25,000 words into The Pinata-Maker's Daughter, hoping for a summer release.

I will start a new blog in January. My Twitter is now @EileenGranfors

All is well. Sydney's Story and BURST had the last of their free days with some good results.

" Readers of Dickens' Tale of Two Cities know how Sydney Carton ends up, facing the guillotine in Charles Darnay's place; and if not, Granfors (Stairs of Sand, 2011, etc.) reminds the reader by opening his novel with that scene. The mystery of Sydney's life is not where he will end up, but how he got there. Granfors answers that mystery by taking the reader back to Sydney's childhood and showing the series of traumas that have left him the depressive alcoholic we meet in Dickens' novel: (spoilers deleted) Granfors largely avoids scenes that Dickens covered and ably extrapolates Sydney's background from a few comments about his school days. But while Sydney is a tragic figure in Dickens, the injustice and melancholia he suffers here approach cosmic. . .proportions (spoiler deleted) This almost-unrelenting darkness may explain why Sydney becomes an alcoholic."
