A Poem

Today I felt like writing a poem instead of working on the next novel.

California Autumn

Fall whispered through the windows this morning.

“Hello, I’m here.” The trees rattled as acorns dropped.

Squirrels quarreled on the porch, rapscallions dashing

Past the conversation to pad their own nests.

Summer’s blazing heat covered like a forgotten campfire.

Fog settles its gauzy quilt over the land. People zip jackets,

Teens rub their bare arms, for no, they won’t wear a sweater

Because Mom says they should, such a nerd, Mom is.

A neighbor’s chimney puffs smoke, redolent of apple wood

Lemons, persimmons, late roses scent the air.

Will fall stay? Hints of autumn are not enough.

It’s time to end the summer’s frenetic carnival.

There’s work to do.

Great PUBLICITY

I am happy that my joeypinkey.com interview was picked up by another blog, the valjean jeffers daily. The more viewers, the more potential sales.

I can't wait to go to my first book group for THE PINATA MAKER'S DAUGHTER with my pinata cake in hand!

Vroman's Paradise

Today I drove to Vroman's Pasadena for the sheer pleasure of walking through an independent book store. Their staff is completely in love with their jobs and helpful. They know their inventory inside out.

Also, they allow local authors to put their books on the shelves in their consignment program.

It makes me smile to see The Pinata-Maker's Daughter shelved next to a work by Janet Fitch or by Lisa See.

Yes, I spent way too much money on books today. But I share my books after I have read them (usually) so the books get well used. I bought a second copy of "The Panopticon" after I gave the first one to my daughter. I just have to read this book again.

The joys of reading are without number.

#! for Pinata-Maker's Daughter

Hi all,
Categories and tags pay off.

The Pinata-Maker's Daughter debuted at #1 in Hispanic trilogy.

Now, I know there aren't millions of buyers out there putting these exact words into a search, BUT it is great for Twitter and FB to share this info.

Writers, think about your tags.

Readers, here's the Kindle link for Pinata-Maker (1st book in trilogy; 2nd book is Some Rivers End on the Day of the Dead; 3rd book is WIP)

Enjoy Carmen's rocky ride through freshman year of college.

I hope you love Carmen's adventures as she goes off to college. Remember this is a prequel to Some Rivers End on the Day of the Dead.
