A Few More Days to Release Day!
The Pinata-Maker's Daughter is down to its final proof. I expect it to publish next week!
It's 1984, and the world is changing. It's still pre-I-phone, pre-computer for the most part. But that doesn't make Carmen's life a simple one.
This coming-of-age story of Carmen Principia runs the gamut of young women's issues. Why won't her mother support her desire for a university education? Does she think it's enough to be a pinata-maker?
At the University, Carmen collides with philosophical radical Franco and frat man with a sense of humor, Joe Sneed. She is torn between her roots and her future. Can she bring both sides together?
Her roommate, Shirley, is not quite what she had in mind either.
Life is a whirling circus as Carmen tries to navigate a world with different values and expectations than those she grew up with.

The Pinata-Maker's Daughter
We've been on vacation. Proofs of my work-in-progreess should have arrived while we were away. I am hoping for a June release.
While Pinata-Maker is related by character to SOME RIVERS END ON THE DAY OF THE DEAD, the book is late YA/women's fiction. Carmen Gracia Principia navigates her freshman year of college, finding her social life a bigger challenge than her classes. Getting involved with a Hispanic rights group, she meets the fiery, divine and scholarly, Franco. She is also taken with Joe Sneed because he makes her laugh.
Carmen finds life goes way beyond what she's ready for at the U.
