5 Songs Before Bed

"Time After Time" by Cyndi Lauper & Sarah McLachlan - An acoustic version of Lauper's classic song. I saw her earlier this week on an old "Bones" episode. It looked like a recurring role, but her character has never returned. I think that stinks.
"Daddy I'm Fine" by Sinead O'Connor - One of my favorite Sinead songs. It just rocks my sassy little socks right off.
"Start Again" by Duncan Sheik - From his poppiest collection, produced, I believe, by Patrick Leonard, who has worked with Madonna on much of her work.
"Hello Seattle" by Owl City - Fun summery song by an artist who writes many a summery confection.
"May It Be" by Enya - From The Lord of the Rings, this is the song that SHOULD have won the Oscar back in 2001. It was beaten out by some forgettable Randy Newman tune from Monsters Inc.
Tonight's list is quite pop-heavy, huh?

5 Songs Before Bed

"Sweets to the Sweet/Farewell" by Patrick Doyle -From Ken Branagh's 1996 version of Hamlet - the best version of the play (take that Olivier!). Kate Winslet played Ophelia.
"Rainy Day" by Coldplay - One of the supergroup's lesser works, from the "Viva La Vida" addendum.
"Nora" by Richard Shindell - Shindell at his best, telling a story of a broken heart and putting it in comparison to Eloise & Abelard (a great love story, if tragic).
"As You Are" by Travis - I listened the hell out of these fellas in college. They're not gay, but I sure got a gay vibe from them back in.
"End of the Innocence" by Don Henley - One of the great songs about nostalgia. This one gets me.

This Week's Bullet Points

1. Woke Up in a Strange Place is nominated for Best Speculative Fiction at the Gaybie's. Go HERE and vote as many times as you like until March 31st. I hate asking for votes, but I have learned that writing can be more like Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman than Julia Roberts in (insert film where she doesn't play a hooker).
2. I love Justin Monroe's dangerous, trashy work. I'm actually thinking about getting hold of him and proposing a coffee table book based on my novella Kid Christmas Rides Again . I can't even imagine what he would come up with for that!
3. I've been watching The Supersizers Go on the Cooking network. This adorable duo lives a week in a set time period - Ancient Rome, Elizabethan England - and eats the food of the era. Sometimes things can get pretty gross. Seriously. I thought today's eating habits were questionable until I started watching this show. Ew. I judge you Ancient Rome. I judge you harshly.
4. The rumours are trumor. I've registered to take part in GayRomLit this October in New Mexico.
5. I've also had an invite as a guest from the Gaylaxicon con in St. Louis in October. I don't know if I'll have the means to do both cons. I like this Con, though. It's name reminds me of a certain Battlestar.
6. I love having a book reviewed in another language, and I like it even more when the book - in this case, Galley Proof - manages to touch the reviewer. HERE.
7. I saw the first still from The Lone Ranger film, starring Armie Hammer as the title character and Johnny Depp as Tonto. I looks ridiculous.

5 Songs Before Bed

"Feels Like Home" by Chantal Kreviatzuk - The best version of the Randy Newman song...and one of the few Newman songs that I can stomach. Oh, no he di-int!
"God is God" by Joan Baez - The great lady of folk!
"Love Never Asks You to Lie" by Joseph Arthur - From his 2011 album. It's nice. He just hasn't been able to recapture that magic he had from his earlier career.
"How It Feels" by Duncan Sheik - I love his languid, hazy style. I really hope Spring Awakening is filmed.
"A New Day Has Come" by Celine Dion - Oops.

"Never Yours" by Tracy Chapman - need something new from her brilliant soul NOW.
"Run" by Amy MacDonald - another talented songstress from across the pond.
"Dangerous" by Joshua James - I love him - his voice, his songwriting, his look - and I need more.
"Clocks" by Coldplay - I'm flying!!
