Animal Collective, Artist to Watch

I'll admit that I didn't get The Animal Collective at first. I heard nothing but raves about them, but their sound is a bit polarizing. It's like the Beach Boys meets Thom York meets The Afro Celt Sound System. At first, it sounded like a lot of noise. Like a few CDs put on at the same time. Very confusing. The Inside Reader

The marvelous Elisa Rolle invited me to be The Inside Reader this week on her site. It was a lot of fun! Check out the rest of the site while you're there. It's packed with great stuff for readers of not just gay fiction, but all literary inclinations.

Joshua James, Artist to Watch

I'm going to start tooting this guy's horn. I just got his CD "Build Me This" and I am bedazzled. If I had gotten the collection before I made my Top 10 list he would definitely have found a place on it. Here's a nice little interview, and is he not the cutest thang? He's got a Jared Leto vibe to him. Very talented too.

"Oh, it was a lot better!"

I was watching "The Wizard of Oz" the other night and remembered this commercial. For some reason it makes me crack up every time I see it.

31 Thank Yous for the Year Past

…for the courage to start over again on my birthday in May
…for the stubbornness of a cross-dressing mule (I dunno, just go with it)
…for the music of David Berkeley
…for the gift of literature that was James Purdy (who died in July)
…for absent friends whose friendship is still strong
…for the joys, irritations, and boredom of blogging
…for experiencing – truly experiencing – the fun of being an uncle
…for learning the truth to the phrase "Familiarity breeds contempt"
…for the experience of a book s...
