Back then I found some bloggers in the genre and emailed them, offering a review copy. You can also hit kboards.com or other indie author forums, find the area where self-promotion is allowed, and offer some review copies in exchange for honest reviews there. Assuming your book is decent, you should get at least one or two reviews out of that, which will help build reader confidence. If you get enough good reviews, you can try getting your book picked up by Bookbub or Booksends, which should give you a nice bump.

All of that said, the biggest success I ever had in getting the word out about my book was doing a free promotion, but that's most effective if you've got a few books out, so that you can get buy-through on the followup books.

Hope that helps!(less)

“Many people believe they know true darkness, but until it has been experienced it cannot be imagined. Without even a flicker of light, the mind begins to play tricks. There is a constant feeling that there is a wall before you, that you must stop. The eyes open as wide as they can, hungry for light. The only thing that helps is to shut them tight.”

Thank you so much for all of your support! I'm glad you've enjoyed my stories, and it's good to know my marketing choices have been doing their job. Hopefully I can keep churning out books you'll enjoy!

Lizzie I was looking at my stats in Goodreads. Interestingly, you are no. 8 on my most read author list and 5 of the 15 books to which I have given 5 stars this year (out of the 96 books I have read to date) were yours!!! I didn't even know your name as an author 2 years ago so how did this happen? The answer is bookbub and a free copy of the first Big Sigma book. I liked the series so much I broke down and decided I would give fantasy a try since the Deacon series was prominent on your list of books. A very good decision on my part.

Thank your for all the pleasurable hours of reading you have provided me with and characters and worlds that I have enjoyed immensely.
