Biocentrism: What if Life Selected this Universe?

Cynthia2014apr6bioHave you ever looked up at the night sky, sparkling with shining stars, and marveled how it can be possible that we live on a planet that revolves around a sun that looks like just another twinkling star when seen from afar? When you stop to really think about it, it’s truly mind-bogglingly amazing that we’re alive on this planet that has just enough water and air and is just the right temperature to support our form of life.

biocentrismI just read Robert Lanza’s thought-provoking book, Biocentrism, which raises the question of how our universe developed in such a way that it is perfect to support life. The odds against such a thing happening purely by chance are astronomically high. The concept of “fine-tuning” has been utilized in the past as an argument in favor of the existence of God, based on the notion that because fundamental physical constants are perfectly positioned to support life, some organizing effect behind the scenes must be going on to have created such a remarkably unlikely situation.

We tend to assume that chaos is the order of the day, as most of us are familiar with in our daily lives. We don’t expect our homes and gardens to tidy and organize themselves, but rather we come to learn that order takes effort, whereas chaos naturally unfolds. So taking a long, hard look at just how organized our universe seems to be leads us to wonder how, exactly, we ended up on a planet that happens to be just the right distance from our sun in a universe that naturally tends to be supportive of life.

Lanza asserts, as the subtitle of his book Biocentrism states, that life and consciousness are the keys to understanding the true nature of the universe. Just how this occurs, Lanza says, has much to do with the extraordinary effects consciousness has been proven to have in the quantum realm. Since experiments conducted in quantum physics have determined that human observers influence behavior of quantum particles in such a manner that results can be shown of a decision before it is made, Lanza suggests this indicates that life itself is the deciding factor in the “Goldilock’s Universe” we find ourselves living in.

The word “biocentrism” was originally intended to convey a sense of reverence for all life, as opposed to focusing primarily on human life, and Lanza’s definition has taken that meaning a bit farther to suggest that biological consciousness is the fundamental consciousness at work in providing us with this particular universe. I respect Lanza’s premise that there exists sufficient evidence supporting the connection between microscopic quantum descriptions of reality and macroscopic classical reality, though it seems clear to me that consciousness must be more than merely biological or bio-centric. We likely do experience the most biologically friendly universes in the multiverse of all possible realities. As another book on the subject of the multiverse, Quantum Jumps, asserts, consciousness extends beyond our ability to fully comprehend it, and is worthy of a ‘centrism’ of its own in terms of being the ultimate creative force in establishing physical reality.

I am enthusiastically supportive of Lanza’s premise in Biocentrism that consciousness is at the center of creating the physical world.

Lanza’s breezy writing style makes this book about fairly heavy topics easy to read… so this book delving into physics, neuroscience, and the nature of reality is something you can sit down and read in a weekend… and you will definitely be challenged to see the world in a whole new way.

Big Bang Waves Suggest We Live in a Multiverse

Cynthia2014apr6bangIf you’ve heard news reports of big discoveries related to the Big Bang and don’t know what to make of it, or why it should matter, you may be amazed to find that scientists have made one of the biggest discoveries about the beginning and nature of our universe–confirming that our universe began from something very, very small, and there was rapid inflation that left its mark in the form of gravitational waves.

Recent findings by physicists working with data from observations of cosmic microwave background (CMB) radiation at the time of the Big Bang suggest that our universe experienced a time of extraordinarily rapid expansion called inflation… which in turn provides support for the idea that new “pocket universes” can be formed.

The basic idea of inflation is that spacetime is physically infinite… a fabric stretched out farther than we can fully imagine. Even more amazingly, the notion of “eternal inflation” predicts there will be an infinite number of Big Bang universes separate and distinct from ours, bursting forth endlessly from an underlying matrix. While most other Big Bang universes are likely to be quite different from ours, parallel universes are now viewed to be more than just a theory, and in fact predictions of particular theories.

G_CMB_3D3latoThis new research is generating tremendous excitement based on data collected by the BICEP2 telescope in Antarctica, where scientists have been searching for evidence of a particular type of polarization existing in the cosmic radiation found everywhere in our universe after the Big Bang. BICEP stands for “Background Imaging of Cosmic Extragalactic Polarization,” and the BICEP2 telescope is the second version of this research device. Scientists working with BICEP and BICEP2 have found primordial b-mode gravitational waves, indicating that light was polarized by existence of uniformly distributed influence of gravity on light from a time period of 380,000 years after the Big Bang.

What makes the discovery of these gravitational waves so remarkable is the phenomenal power and frequency of these waves at the time they were formed–on the order of about 10 to the sixteenth gigaelectronvolts, or 10 trillion times the peak energies found at the world’s largest operating particle accelerator, the Large Hadron Collider (LHC)… energies so high, in fact, that physicists expect that three of the four fundamental forces in physics (the weak, the strong, and the electromagnetic forces) would operate as one. This is the first observation of quantum gravity at work, providing real evidence of a quantum connection to gravity.

While the BICEP2 results were confirmed by corroborating reports from an earlier version of BICEP utilizing different equipment, physicists are expressing cautious enthusiasm until such time as the Planck telescope provides confirmation that these gravity waves can be found in Planck’s view of the CMB, too.

And where does all this lead? The next steps for physicists looking back as far as possible to the very beginnings of this universe are to integrate new data with existing and emerging theories. Multiverse theories are gaining tremendous ground, now that inflation appears to have moved from theory to fact.

I am tremendously excited about these findings because I have been following a great deal of multidisciplinary studies, all suggesting we live in a holographic multiverse, as discussed in the book, Quantum Jumps, in which quantum effects influence much more than just the microscopic realm.

Cynthia Sue Larson Interviews Judy Gardiner

Judy Gardiner

Judy Gardiner

I met author Judy Gardiner in an author’s group through our mutual work in the field of intuition. I was delighted to discover that we agree that our world has truly entered the Quantum Age, and that Judy cares deeply about accessing intuitive insights through dreams. In addition to our shared interest in dreams and intuition, I was pleased to discover that Judy also loves the work of physicist David Bohm, proponent of a holographic interpretation of quantum physics.

Judy explained to me that she approaches dreaming as it relates to David Bohm’s idea of representing an underlying cosmic unity, in which many facets of this totality of existence are actualized in the fragmentation, timelessness, interconnectedness and wholeness you experience in your dreams. Fortunately for all of us, Judy recognized deep meaning in her dreams, which she now graciously and eloquently shares in her beautiful book, Lavender: An Entwined Adventure in Science and Spirit.

LavenderCYNTHIA: Thank you so very much for agreeing to this interview! Could you tell us a little about what your book, Lavender ~ An Entwined Adventure in Science & Spirit, is all about?

JUDY:  Thank you Cynthia for the opportunity to engage in the exciting message of Quantum Jumps. Lavender is a multi-layered and multidimensional journey in interconnectedness bridging the worlds of dreaming and waking consciousness, light and vision, matter and spirit, and time and eternity.

What began as a self-study in consciousness evolved to the story of Lavender which orbits the dream adventures of Penelope Peacock, an unscientific and unexpected vehicle for truths from other planes crossing the threshold of the personal dream and entering the realm of cosmic dreaming. As the story unfolds, we find that science and spirit become inseparable when concern for survival of self transcends to species-survival. Lavender begins with a single dream in which four statues come to life (later materialized at theTemple of Karnak, Luxor Egypt) eventually spinning out to the collective unconscious. The visit to Luxor was my first insight into the timeless nature of reality illustrating how the time in which a dream occurs, moves itself into the waking state to make a connection, manifesting as one undivided unit of time—one unified whole. Lavender has been described as a tapestry that is one young woman’s life and the world’s story.

CYNTHIA: I’d love to know a little bit about how you got the inspiration for writing Lavender, which clearly has meant a great deal to you on many levels, and what the writing process was like for this book.

JUDY: It began with a dream in 1994 in which a deceased friend advises me of a breakthrough for mankind concerning the optic nerve. Dream images of the visual system were followed by dreams of light entangled with sciences I hadn’t studied; e.g. genetics, astronomy, geology, chemistry, physics. Four historical figures of science, represented as scientific symbols, began to appear in my dreams, each symbol representing their past contributions while beaming the light toward the future and delivering a collective message of dire concern for the earth.

The writing process entailed years of untangling an intricate web of fragments and coded images authenticated by intensive research, synchronous experiences, electronic anomalies and powerful intuitive flashes. My inspiration came through the dreams of Spirit informing Science, a cosmic wake-up call urging that it be shared.

CYNTHIA: I can’t help but notice you mention the phrase, “dire concern for the earth” in conjunction with your source of creative inspiration.  As a writer and visionary, I’d love to know of any positive possible future(s) you envision–as well as what people can do to help ensure we collectively move in a positive direction.

JUDY:  Unfortunately Cynthia, there’s no short answer to your very insightful question, but I’ll try to provide an overview.

The first step toward a positive possible future is to release from denial and accept the reality that we are confronted with unprecedented crises. This is a clarion call for collective awakening. Apathy and resignation will no longer work as we look to the future. We have poisoned the earth with our radioactive materials and other toxins, wounding her most vulnerable parts. It is time to seek help from our higher selves, reconnect to each other and ask, “What can We do to change this toxic energy within our psyches and our earth?

Paralleling Earth behavior with Human behavior allegorically illustrates the enfoldment of all matter. We and Mother Earth are one sustainable system, one vast interdependent whole. For a moment, let’s summon up all the empathy we have and think of ourselves as an integral part of Her. As human behavior is conditioned to respond to stimuli, so too may be the behavior of Mother Earth. If her safety is threatened, her stability compromised, so is ours. To quote from your website, “Just as electrons can make energetic leaps from one energetic level to another, people can quantum jump…” In this spirit, and as catastrophes accelerate, our survival instincts may shift from worry for self to worry for the planet. Here we can turn worry to positive action.

Like Mother Earth, our collective wound needs to be opened, cleansed and nursed back to health. We have become distracted by the outer world of materialism and disconnected from our divine nature, the spark that gives meaning to life. In establishing an awareness of global oneness, one path that will bring us closer to our inner reality is the world of dreaming where we can reconnect with our core of being.

By shifting from the negative energy of fear and anger to the positive energy of love and compassion, over time, we as a species may energetically help to balance our environment by restoring health and harmony to our earth. We must assume a genuine sense of universal responsibility as our central motivation and come to terms with the global and personal challenges surrounding us.

What began as dire concern in Lavender escalated to resounding alarm, forewarning of the Fukushima nuclear disaster, the Keystone Pipeline Project and an alchemical transmutation occurring within the earth. Geology is a major theme in Lavender.

If you are dreaming about global issues you are likely tapping into the Cosmic Dream. This range of dreaming is an outgrowth of the personal dream, pointing to both our personal issues and those facing mankind as a whole.

Transforming our worldview can begin with a simple step by expressing one small kindness each day, be it with a smile, a caring word, a benevolent thought. The threats we are presently confronted with may be slowly unlocking the collective heart.

It was in the spirit of agape that Lavender’s message of unity consciousness was delivered.

CYNTHIA: I just love what you say about shifting from the negative energy of fear and anger to the positive energy of love and compassion, because this is something everyone can do. At a time when people might feel disempowered, I’m so glad to see you are encouraging people to make this kind of positive difference, and happy to see you encouraging people to pay more attention to dreams, and to how we share in the dreaming of our world into wellness. When I was a little girl, my mother’s mother asked me every morning, “What did you dream last night?” which helped me make connections between my dreams and the everyday world. I’d love to know if you had someone that encouraged you to pay attention to your dreams when you were growing up?

JUDY: Actually, I barely remember my dreams from childhood. I do remember sitting on the lawn at night staring at the vastness of the heavens and the blinking stars. When my little Scottie dog, Bonnie died, I would talk to her feeling that maybe she was one of those stars and that she knew I was always with her. I was born prematurely in the sixth month with little chance of survival back then. My heightened sensitivity to survival evolved to profound appreciation for the miracle of life.

I began to remember my dreams after I had retired from 25 years in a corporate career. Later, during my dark night of the soul, I found myself tunneling down the proverbial rabbit hole where I felt I was experiencing parallel universes in exciting new worlds. It was as though all those dreamless years had been deposited in a sort of dream vault where memories were imprinted and archived for a time when I would actually be able to “see” what they were saying.

I had mentioned that my dreams began with vision and were followed by light. In my most striking light dream, the glaring headlights of a car had flooded my sight. I had literally been blinded by the light—the inner light of the human spirit, our collective birthright—our altruistic nature.

CYNTHIA: I love your idea of dreams from “dreamless years” being deposited in some sort of dream vault where everything can later be viewed and perhaps more fully and deeply understood. So many people live such busy lives, that it seems a lot of us feel we don’t have time for thinking about or remembering dreams, or perhaps that we don’t have dreams in the first place. Do you have any suggestions for people to better enjoy and benefit from dreams in their lives?

JUDY: Yes, the feeling of dreamlessness is quite common but the fact is that dreaming is a biological function and we dream on average of 25% every night (based on 8 hours of sleep a night). Dreams are evanescent so it’s important to grab even a strand of a dream and record it soon as you can. Think of a kitten chasing a ball of yarn. One little strand can begin to unravel your entire life’s story. The dream courier is like Fed Ex. If we’re not there to receive the dream the first time, the courier continually tries to redeliver it. If still no luck, it goes into incubation, that dream vault, where it is stored in memory, gathering life experience, collecting data, reflecting backward and forward until the dreamer is ready to receive it.

The first suggestion for people to enjoy and benefit from dreams would be to dispel the mystique that dreams are meaningless or scary. Next, is to be open to accepting whatever the dream wants to tell you. The dream is your best friend, your very own Guru; the higher, wiser part of you whose mission is to introduce you to yourself.  When you welcome it in, it will train you to “see” and to “listen,” while healing, educating and guiding you through the sometimes turbulent and murky waters of life.

Dreaming strives toward wholeness. In a sense it is a very personal art form calling upon our imagination to decode hidden metaphors and clues. Dreams improve sleep, support memory, ward off depression, and notify us of health issues. They confront our anxieties and shortcomings by presenting past issues requiring resolution while pointing to assets we’re not using. Often intersecting with paranormal features they bring us closer to the mysterious nature of consciousness, perhaps facilitating communication from the Collective Unconscious. Non-locality is suggested in that the telepathic dream spans across space; the precognitive dream, across time.

The dream’s greatest benefit is that which transforms and awakens us to our potential. When we’ve reached that joyous summit, our dream terrain may expand our boundaries of consciousness and open to the cosmic realm in which quantum aspects of dreaming are revealed. A further aspect is that of interconnectedness. The fragments in our dreams are perpetually connecting, reflecting us back to ourselves as belonging to both nature and humanity, helping us to face areas of estrangement from self, others, and the planet. In this we experience an emotional depth that embraces human empathy at a divine level.

Dream activity can increase exponentially; the more you dream, the more you will dream.

CYNTHIA:  Thank you so very much for sharing some wonderful tips and information about dreaming!

JUDY:  Cynthia, you’ve asked such important and probing questions. I so appreciate your description of a holographic multiverse of interconnected worlds for it perfectly describes the nature of dreaming. Remember, dreams are our best friends.

CYNTHIA:  Would you be willing to share any favorite books or movies that are special favorites of yours that you’d recommend?

71MUgyZTnIL._SL1500_JUDY:  Some of my favorites books include:

Cynthia Sue Larson Interviews Andy Myers

Andy Myers

Andy Myers

I met Andy Myers at a time travel conference we were both attending in August 2010 in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where we had great conversations each morning at breakfast before the conference discussions began. I love meeting people at conferences where it’s clear from the start that we have shared interests, since often it turns out that we have many shared interests–and this was definitely true of me and Andy. I’m so glad that I’ve stayed in touch with Andy these past four years, since I got to be one of the first to read his new book,  Flying Paint Rollers from Heaven , and to interview him!

CYNTHIA: First of all, I want to thank you for writing such a wonderful book that I am certain will help a great number of people seeking answers to questions that most people tend to feel a bit too embarrassed to ask, even if they knew who they could trust to answer these sorts of questions. Flying Paint Rollers from Heaven I love how your new book,  Flying Paint Rollers from Heaven , is so soothingly down-to-Earth and matter-of-fact about subjects that could otherwise seem unsettling if not outright scary otherwise. What was your initial inspiration for writing this book?

ANDY: My reason for writing this book is very simple. It’s my life purpose to help and inspire others. I hope my book provides easy-to-read answers to those seemingly unanswerable questions that keep us up at night. People are naturally curious and have lots of questions, which is why I wrote my book in a question-answer format. Personally, I enjoy reading a wide array of deep, spiritual and metaphysical books, but I also love to laugh. I intentionally wrote Flying Paint Rollers from Heaven in a lighthearted manner. It’s sure to evoke strong emotions, including humor!

CYNTHIA:  Your book is immediately accessible, and really does feel like the reader is sitting across the breakfast table from you, chatting and asking questions, and enjoying your company. I really love that aspect of the book, because I’ve had the pleasure of your company at the breakfast table when we were both attending a Language of Spirit conference a few years back! You have such a delightfully relaxed and easy attitude about delving into the spiritual world. What (or who) would you credit this to?

ANDY:  It’s funny you say my book reads like a conversation around a breakfast table. While writing it, that’s exactly what I imagined. Although the content of my book is of a deep, spiritual nature, it’s merely a casual dialogue with the reader. My relaxed and curious attitude about metaphysical phenomena stems back to my Grandma Myers. When she was alive, she fostered my interest in the unknown, and always encouraged me to be a truth-seeker. I always feel her with me in spirit when engaged in a thought-provoking discussion.

CYNTHIA: There is such a delightful sense of genuine dialogue with the reader you establish in this book, and I’m so glad to hear that much of your inspiration came from someone you clearly love and respect so much, your Grandma Myers. I had a similarly close relationship with my mother’s mother, and I’d love to know if looking back on things she showed you and talked about with you growing up take on a deeper sense of meaning now that you’re so clearly living the life of truth-seeker and truth-teller?

ANDY: Yes, I wish I could go back in time and act as a fly on the wall to observe some of the things my grandma told me. Her life experiences were always so fascinating, and she was such a good story-teller. I tried to make Grandma proud in writing my book, as I put a lot of emphasis on telling a good story. All the accounts documented in my book are true events I’ve witnessed. I’ve learned first hand (and my grandma would agree,) that reality can truly be stranger than fiction. Living a life with one foot in the spirit world is a good way to ensure you’ll always encounter plenty of interesting occurrences.

CYNTHIA: Would you share one of the interesting events you’ve witnessed?

ANDY: Oh boy, where do I begin? Last year, my wife and I came home from a date night, and were frozen in our tracks as we noticed something odd. Our kitchen table had mysteriously been moved three to four feet, and was practically resting in our living room! We could have dismissed it as an accident, and assumed our dog had bumped into the table. However, all four chairs were neatly pushed back into the table, as if a spirit visitor intentionally moved it across the room and had the courtesy to push in the chairs. There’s never a dull moment in the Myers household, but luckily our paranormal experiences are always humorous and whimsical. They’re never scary.

CYNTHIA: I’ve heard of table-tipping (mentioned in my April 2013 interview with author Pamela Heath), but table relocation is a new one for me! Do you sometimes find there is meaning or significance in some of these odd events?

ANDY: Yes, I believe there is significance in some of these odd events. Often times, these attention-grabbing occurrences act as a little “hello” from our loved ones in Heaven, or even our spirit guides. In other situations, I’ve felt the presence of angels as they intervened to keep me safe from harm. Then again, angels are everywhere. Cynthia, I’m sure you would agree with me that human beings can often act as angels in disguise. God works in mysterious ways.

CYNTHIA:  I often find significance in these events as well, often as a kind of a “Hello, there!” kind of wake-up call to be more attentive. One of the things I love so much about you and your book is how your sense of faith and love and that everything is just fine comes right through every sentence and page! How have you gained and deepened your faith in God?

ANDY: As I’m sure you would agree, Cynthia, “faith” means different things to different people. I have always believed in a higher power, and my connection with God has always been a personal one. I often pray, and when I speak to God, I talk as if I’m conversing with my best friend. I know that not every prayer can be answered, but it never hurts to put a request in God’s “inbox.” Like others, my faith has gotten me through some pretty tough times. But I also enjoy seeing God in the little things. I see God in the loyalty of my dog, in the vibrant colors of a sunset, and I hear God through inspirational music. These seemingly insignificant parts of life deepen my faith in God every single day.

CYNTHIA: I also find miraculous beauty and inspiration in the “little things,” and the immeasurable things, like heartfelt connections to loved ones and nature. I get a sense from reading your book that you truly love sharing spiritual and intuitive insights with people in ways that help them feel less afraid of and more comfortable about topics such as angels and ghosts. What general advice would you offer someone who wishes they could be more certain that, for example, their loved ones who’ve passed away can hear what they’re saying?

ANDY: Well, think of it this way. Most of us humans can hear each other and communicate, even though we may not be able to see one another. We do this through e-mail, text messages, and phone calls. I often say that whenever you talk to a loved one in Heaven, they instantly receive a “spiritual text message.” They stop what they’re doing, and tune in to what you’re saying. They’ll find creative and unique ways to communicate back with you, as long as you’re open-minded. In my book, I provide plenty of examples of how those in Heaven speak to us on a daily basis.

CYNTHIA: As an intuitive person myself, I truly appreciate how you encourage readers to keep an open mind to signs, messages, and signals that can come through in a variety of ways. I’m able to receive direct communications as clearly as if my deceased loved one is sitting right next to me and telling me something in their familiar tone of voice and choice of words… but I know many people feel frustrated that though they may sense a presence, no clear message comes through. Would you be willing to share a tip or suggestion for those who feel like they’re carrying on one-sided conversations, and wish they could get some kind of real communication from their loved ones who’ve passed on?

ANDY: Cynthia, from one intuitive to another, I have to say that your genuine nature and bubbly spirit are easy to see. I know you are a tremendously gifted (and busy) person, so I want to pause here and thank you for your time in conducting this interview. I agree with you that some people feel frustration when they can’t directly “hear” messages from their loved ones in Heaven. I would have two pieces of advice for these individuals. First of all, remember that there are many modes of communication between you and those in Heaven. Messages can be heard, seen, smelled, felt, and even delivered through your nightly dreams. Secondly, have patience. An uplifting sign from a deceased family member may come ten years after their death, but in Heaven, ten years may only seem like a few days to them. Have faith that in time, you’ll get your message. We all do.

CYNTHIA: Thanks, Andy! Yes, my life can get busy, and when it does, I do my best to remember to slow down and simplify. Ironically, it seems when we feel the busiest is when we most need the reminders to stay focused on what matters most. One thing I’ve noticed can help us stay on track is being mindful of good selections of books and movies when we have some rest and relaxation time. I’d love to know if you have any favorite books or movies that are special favorites of yours that you’d recommend?

B00005JKIS.kpaxANDY:  I LOVE movies! A guilty pleasure of mine is sneaking off to an afternoon movie on weekdays, when theaters are practically empty. As far as movies, I like anything that involves the big picture. You know, films that really make us question our place in the universe. I like the movies Contact, K-Pax, The Day The Earth Stood Still, and the classic, Close Encounters of the Third Kind. Of course, comedies are also good at the end of a long day. Regarding my favorite books, I’d have to say Conversations with God by Neal Donald Walsch. It’s my all time favorite. I also like any books written by Robert Fulghum. He has a knack for making common life events humorous and inspirational.

CYNTHIA: I feel truly honored to have interviewed you, and I’m really grateful for all the tips and insights you’ve shared! How can people find out more about where they can learn more about your new book and how they can stay in touch with you?

ANDY:  It’s been a pleasure having this dialogue with you, Cynthia. Please keep up the good work, as this world desperately needs your services and positive energy. People can learn more about my book on my website: www.AndyMyersOnline.com I love to stay in touch with my clients through social media. You can find me on Facebook under “Psychic Medium Andy Myers” and on Twitter: @AndysIntuition. Thanks again Cynthia. God bless.

CYNTHIA: Thanks ever so much–you’ve been a true joy and delight to interview!

Get a Quantum Jump to Make This an Amazing Year

Image

This can be an amazing year for you, regardless of whether or not you made (or broke) any new year’s resolutions. At this time when the placebo effect has mysteriously doubled in efficacy over the past thirty years as people benefit from sugar pills and “sham” surgery so much that Harvard University has created an institute to study the placebo effect… it’s becoming increasingly clear that there is a powerful mind-matter connection.

The mind-matter connection became crystal clear to me in the early 1980s when I came to UC Berkeley as an undergraduate student in the Physics program. At that time, I was one of the very few caucasians in the Physics program, and one of just a handful of women. When I sat down in one of my first lecture halls, surrounded by hundreds of mostly male Asian students, I experienced a very primal sense of fear–a feeling of “you don’t belong here.”

Fortunately, this was a familiar feeling that I’d learned to deal with before, as just two years earlier I’d been the only girl in my high school physics class. One would think such things don’t really matter, except every time a female high school student walked past the windows in our high school physics class, the teacher stopped talking mid-sentence, silence descended upon the class, and all eyes watched the young lady stroll the length of the classroom as she walked past outside.

I’d learned while taking advanced math classes and physics classes in high school to pretend that “lots of young girls just like you do great in math and science,” and this was the same cheery inner pep talk I gave myself that first year as a Physics major at UC Berkeley.

It turns out such an attitude of “faking it ‘til you make it” is enormously useful for all of us as we get older, as scientific studies show that those of us who harbor negative prejudices about old age are statistically more likely to end up the way we presume older people to be. When a group of people were asked to  describe qualities typically found in the elderly, those who expected people to deteriorate over time were found by researchers in this longitudinal study to suffer just such a fate, whereas those who viewed the elderly in more favorable light were statistically more likely to be found prospering and thriving many years later.

If you’re wondering what can possibly account for people being healed by fake surgeries and sugar pills, and aging according to largely subconsciously held prejudices about old people… you’re not alone.

Fortunately for all of us, we’re now living through one of the most exciting times in the history of the world when our entire way of thinking about ourselves in relation to the world is being transformed. We’re now at the dawn of the Quantum Age, which was officially ushered in back in September 2013 when Google and NASA’s Ames Research Center purchased the first quantum computer, the D-Wave Two, for $17 million. Thanks to a modicum of transparency with the US government financing of part of this project, we can now track some of the progress in quantum programing at the QUantum Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (QUAIL) at NASA.

So what’s the big deal about this being the dawn of the Quantum Age, and how does that relate to this being such a great year for you?

Image

I was inspired to write my newest book, Quantum Jumps: An Extraordinary Science of Happiness and Prosperity, after seeing a convergence in results from a number of scientific studies showing that quantum phenomena such as superposition of states, entanglement, and teleportation are happening on the macroscopic, human scale. The significance of such phenomena was not lost on me, since for the past fifteen years I’ve been conducting surveys and sharing first-hand reports of a wide variety of seemingly inexplicable experiences through the RealityShifters.com web site. What’s truly exciting now is that thanks to findings from a variety of scientific studies, it’s clear that:

We most likely live in a holographic multiverse of interconnected parallel possible worlds, and
Quantum effects are now being regularly observed on the macroscopic scale (so for example, we can witness quantum entanglement in diamonds that we can hold in our hands).

When we consider some of the quantum phenomena we’re now witnessing in the natural world in birds navigational abilities, in the way plants photosynthesize, and even in the way our very own noses work, we begin to see how we are receiving extraordinary insights into how we benefit from quantum entanglement, quantum coherence, and quantum superposition of states in our everyday lives. Nature shows us that quantum processing is built into plants and animals in such a way that provides something akin to intuitive reasoning that is an integral part of optimizing efficiency in a number of ways. Plants are able to instantly determine the most efficient way to transform a photon to stored energy, by doing something akin to simultaneously comparing all possible pathways, and choosing the best.

For us humans, this kind of natural efficiency is a bit like telling ourselves when taking a test, “You know the answer to this,” and then doing significantly better as a result. In fact, scientists have proven that this type of placebo treatment does indeed improve peoples’ test scores.

Put another way, we can consider the ways that quantum effects can improve our daily lives as doing something American psychologist William James once stated as, “If you want a quality, act as if you already have it.”

So one of the best ways to make this year one of your best years yet is simply to tell yourself that is exactly what is happening now. See what happens when you think or say aloud:

This is one of the best years of my life.

And just for good measure, feel free to add my favorite open-ended question:

How good can it get?!

Quantum Jumping Makeover: Act Like and Become a Better You

CSL2014jan7 “Act the way you’d like to be and soon you’ll be the way you’d like to act.” – Bob Dylan

What would you say if someone were to tell you that your sense of self is constructed, and is just a story? Many of us tend to assume that who we are–our sense of self–is something stable and reliably secure, so there is naturally a good deal of resistance to the notion that who we think we are might be nothing more than some kind of fabricated narrative. Yet some reputable psychologists, including Bruce Hood from the University of Bristol, insist this is exactly the case. Interviewed recently by a reporter for Wired magazine to talk about his new book, The Self Illusion, Hood states,

“My hypothesis is the subject as multiplicity.”

Multiplicity is becoming one of the big ideas of our times, as the notion that our reality is a holographic multiverse has recently gained significant support from a number of different scientific findings. The idea that we exist in an interconnected multitude of parallel realities is one I describe in detail in my new book, Quantum Jumps, which explains how to move from one reality to another. The more open we are to seeing our lives as being the stories we tell ourselves and one another about who we are, the easier it can be to become kinder, stronger, smarter, more resilient, more confident, and healthier. There are lots of ways we can take some baby jumps in these directions, and lots more ways to enjoy life when we do!

Quantum Jumps Quantum Jumps

We sometimes witness how self can be based on constructed narrative when observing public reinventions of celebrities such as: rapper and fashion model-turned-actor, Marky Mark Wahlberg, Madonna, David Bowie, and Neil Patrick Harris. Some performers make changes in order to catch and hold the public interest, yet some of these transformations have a lot to do with making a conscious transition from one way of being in service to another, such as what Levar Burton did when moving on from playing young Kunta Kinte in Roots to Lt. Commander Geordi La Forge in Star Trek: The Next Generation to the host and executive producer of Reading Rainbow. A good part of personal transformation comes from how we perceive ourselves to be based on social interaction. When Bill Moyers asked mythology expert Joseph Campbell in an interview in The Power of Myth how he had personally benefited from his study of mythology, Joseph Campbell replied that one of the ways the study of myth and tradition has helped him in his personal life was based on,

“The tradition in India, for instance, of actually changing your whole way of dress, even changing your name, as you pass from one stage to another.”

An ancient technique of name healing which has been practiced in China for thousands of years, and is still being practiced today is described in Quantum Jumps. A description of this practice is based on the wonderful research of authors Gary Lee and Nicholoas Tapp in their study of the Hmong. The concept of name healing is based in the idea that when an infant or young child becomes dangerously sick or ill, there is a chance that by renaming the child, he or she can become well again. From a quantum jumping point of view, you might say that the entire family and village join in re-envisioning the young person as someone fresh and new–as someone who is perfectly healthy and well.

In my life so far, I have made big transitions that included name and appearance changes. The first was in the 1980s when I got married, cut my hair short and wore business suits that consisted of jacket, skirt, blouse and silk bow tie. This was the perfect look for business, and with this combination of my new married name and a whole new business wardrobe, I felt like the Fortune 500 MBA project manager I considered myself to be.

Something I learned when moving to Lausanne, Switzerland when I was a new mother in the 1990s was that one of the best things about new beginnings is the opportunity to reinvent myself and enjoy a completely fresh start. I had been employed in the corporate world for the past seven years before making this big move, and I was overjoyed to discover that in a whole new city, canton, and country it really is possible to reinvent oneself. I had so much fun dressing like a European, shopping and traveling without a car, and thinking differently in ways both large and small. Wearing a minidress was considered perfectly respectable, and enjoyed a sense of freedom to show the world a whole new side of me that I had never previously been able to feel comfortable sharing before.

I made my third big name and appearance change in the 2000s, after my daughters were born and after I got divorced, when my literary agent encouraged me to change my name from “Cindy Sue.” My literary agent pointed out my name had just a bit too much of a hillbilly sound to it, as she asked imploringly, “Are you known by any other name?” She was relieved to hear that my name is “Cynthia Sue,” and that is the name accompanying this up-and-coming author, as I grew my hair out and started wearing long batik dresses when not wearing jeans.

Yet another name and appearance transformation I’ve enjoyed over the past fifteen years is involved with practicing martial arts, which comes with rank, title and a uniform. Engaging in martial arts provides me with benefits from yet another facet of my total self.

Much of the joy I feel when making transformative changes at times of life transition comes from the fun of getting to be and do something different that I truly wish to experience. I wanted to be a business manager, a stay-at-home mom, an author, a martial artist, and I became all these things. I have come to realize that each of us is capable of doing a great deal more than we typically realize, and sometimes all we need to get started is taking the first few steps. As a spiritual life coach, I especially enjoy helping people treasure these kinds of transformative changes in their lives!

The Top Five Ways that Reality Shifts

Reality ShiftsOur thoughts and feelings change reality around us every minute of every day. Most of us notice that time doesn’t always move in steady, sequential fashion… that sometimes it seems much slower or faster than usual, or like it has stopped altogether. Many of us usually get parking spots when and where we need them, find that traffic lights turn green at just the right times, and that friends will phone or write when we think of them.

These wonderful synchronicities happen when we’re feeling energized and flowing with the feeling of love, whereas we tend to notice more chaotic shifts in reality (in which our keys or purse or coat seem to move around by themselves) on days when we’re feeling emotionally high-strung and discordant. At times like that it’s easy to feel that

“my possessions are causing me suspicion, but there’s no proof”,

as in the song “Don’t Dream It’s Over” by Crowded House!

You don’t have to have ghosts in the house in order for reality to shift around you! Current research in the field of distant healing (or intercessory prayer) is scientifically validating the theory that our thoughts and feelings have non-local effects in the world around us. Two medical journals published articles on their double-blind studies of distant healing, with statistically significant findings that sick people get better when prayed for (December 1998 Western Journal of Medicine, October 1999 Southern Medical Journal), and Scientific American’s April 2000 issue sported a cover image of quantum teleportation machine! We’ve come a long ways from the days when non-classical behavior of quantum particles was dubbed, “spooky action at a distance” by Albert Einstein, and tomorrow’s technology (such as quantum computers) will be counting on what was considered to be quantum weirdness just yesterday.

Reality Shifts: When Consciousness Changes the Physical World

Reality Shifts: When Consciousness Changes the Physical World

When we consider the entire range of reality shifts from the “Shift Happens” variety (where that missing sock never comes out of the dryer) all the way to conscious reality shifting, we discover a wonderful smorgasbord of changes that we can create in and around ourselves. Don’t worry if you read through these examples and don’t feel that any of these things have happened to you — if you want to experience them and start paying attention to the possibility that these things can happen, you’ll be more likely to notice them in the future.

Here are the top five types of reality shifts (given in no particular order), with some examples listed for each type:

(1) Appearances

Groceries in the cupboards and refrigerator, letters in the mail (or mail arriving more than once in a given day), a book (or record or clothing or toy) arrives in a store that didn’t have it just a moment ago, a friend shows up or writes or phones who you were just thinking of.

(2) Disappearances

A car vanishes in the road ahead of you or in the spot you need to park in, traffic clears up ahead of you (when moments earlier a traffic jam was imminent), household or personal items vanish without a trace for no apparent reason.

(3) Transportations

Things thought to be lost years ago arrive unexpectedly in mysterious ways, something needed from a distant location arrives without explanation or any apparent means of delivery, objects move back and forth between friends’ houses without anyone carrying them there, keys and coats and glasses and wallets move around inside our homes with nobody moving them.

(4) Transformations

Cancerous tissues become well again, cuts and bruises and burns vanish, hair that was straight becomes curly, spontaneous remission of cancer, coming out of a coma, facial features change, traffic lights suddenly become green when they were in the process of turning yellow.

(5) Changes in Time

Time slows down, stops altogether, or speeds up… or there is a communication across time. Read my articles I Felt Time Slow to a Stop and Time Travel Reality Shift for some real-life examples of this.

Quantum Jump into Better Relationships

CSL2013decblue

One of the most wonderfully imaginable ways to visualize an improved world is one in which relationships with others are more supportive and positive. While we might assume there’s nothing much we can do to improve the chemistry or attraction we feel for others, researchers have recently proven this is not the case. Studies show there is a lot we can do to improve how close we feel to others and how positively they feel about us.

Finding True Love in a Telepathy Experiment

When Julie Beischel signed up to participate in a telepathy experiment, the last thing she expected was to fall in love. Beischel was in a room by herself, unable to see her experimental partner, Mark Boccuzzi. Boccuzzi’s instructions were simply to gaze at Julie intently on a closed circuit screen that intermittently showed her (live) image. Intriguingly, the data showed Julie’s physiological responses every time Mark could see her, with noticeable spikes at the exact moments her image was taken away–as if her body was saying, “Oh, where did he go?” Julie said. At the time, Julie didn’t immediately tell Mark about the powerful connections she’d felt to him, since after all, they were strangers. Now married, Julie and Mark credit telepathy for helping them meet and fall in love. “It was like nothing I had ever encountered,” Julie said.

Improve Relationships by Acting Close

University of Hertfordshire psychology professor Richard Wiseman may have begun his working life as a professional magician, but no amount of magic books could explain the amazing results he got when he conducted an experiment with a hundred speed-daters in Edinburgh, Scotland. Wiseman separated the speed-daters into two groups: one which conducted the speed-dating activities as usual, and the other with special instructions for couples to pretend they were already intimately acquainted. These couples were instructed to hold hands, share secrets, and gaze into each others’ eyes.

At the end of the study when all the speed-daters were asked how close they felt to their partners, and how many of them would like to see their partners again, only about 20% of the conventional daters indicated a desire to reconnect, compared with 45% in the pretending-to-be-intimate group. Wiseman explains,

“The assumption was that the emotion leads to the action or behavior but this shows it can happen the other way around, action can lead to emotions. Behaving like you are in love can lead to actually falling in love.”

Wiseman adds,

“Actions are the quickest, easiest, and most powerful way to instantly change how you think and feel.”

University of California at San Diego psychology professor, Dr. Robert Epstein, conducted similar exercises, asking couples of students to participate in what he called “soul gazing” — looking deeply into each other’s eyes. Epstein found a 7% increase in loving, an 11% increase in liking, and a 45% increase in closeness…. with 89% of participants reporting the exercise increased feelings of intimacy.

Epstein’s love-building exercises include embracing each other gently while sensing and synchronizing breathing, placing the palm of your hand as close to your partner’s palm without actually touching for several minutes (in which you might not only feel heat, but surprisingly also some sparks), write down secrets and discuss them, fall backward into the arms of your partner, mirror each others’ movements, and try a mind-reading game.

Taking action to become closer to loved ones is not inauthentic, explains Dr. Epstein. It’s something we can actively do to improve our relationships, rather than passively accepting the status quo.

“The students in my course were doing something new–taking control over their love lives. We grow up on fairy tales and movies in which magical forces help people find their soul mates, with whom they effortlessly live happily ever after.”

The fact that we can increase closeness by acting close in relationships is wonderful news for both old and new relationships. The findings from these studies give credence to the advice of our parents and grandparents who impressed upon us the importance of good social manners. When we make eye contact, shake hands, and inquire how others are doing rather than only talk about ourselves, we’re well on our way to becoming a bit closer to people we might otherwise not care nearly so much about.

How to Choose and Benefit from a Spiritual Life Coach

CSL2013dec2I feel very blessed and fortunate that I had the benefit of a spiritual life coach in all the years of my life while I was growing up, though at the time I probably would not have called her that. The person I trusted to share uplifting, life-affirming insights and ideas that helped me feel connected to the Divine was my grandmother, who I called “Mor Mor,” meaning “mother’s mother” in Swedish.

What Spiritual Life Coaches Do

Imagine being able to say anything without being judged, where you feel accepted and safely wrapped in love. In such a supportive environment, you can break free from fears–both spoken and unspoken–that may have been holding you back for years, and start to see an expanded horizon of possibilities from which to choose.

A good Spiritual Life Coach helps you feel positive emotions from connecting with the unseen animating power that brings meaning and inspiration to your life, discovering a deeper sense of who you truly are, and a clearer sense of what you need most at this time in your life. You can gain a sense of empowerment and passion from living your daily life according to your unique path of personal and spiritual growth, without judging you based on attributes such as age, gender, race, or religious affiliation.

A good Spiritual Life Coach guides you to feel fully engaged in life and in positive service in the world, recognizing ongoing communications between you and the universe happening each moment of every day. It’s wonderfully exciting to explore your most beneficial options in a multiverse of infinite possibility, with supportive guidance each step of the way!

What to Look for When Choosing the Right Spiritual Life Coach for You

Because working with a Spiritual Life Coach can be such an intensely personal experience, it’s essential to select someone you feel safe with, whom you can trust. You can view a selection of Spiritual Life Coaches rather quickly by conducting an internet search for the search term, “Spiritual Life Coach,” in order to find websites with informational pages. Once you’ve screened potential Spiritual Life Coaches for all requirements you feel are mandatory, measurable and realistic, it’s time to evaluate how you would rate the Spiritual Life Coaches you’re considering according to the following considerations:

* Experience – How many years of experience does each coach have in Spiritual Life Coaching? While it’s true that Spiritual Life Coaches can be quite good right from the start, there are benefits from working with Spiritual Life Coaches who’ve been working with a wide variety of clients for many years, and who have a correspondingly large number of tools in their Spiritual Life Coaching toolkit to help people with. While some spiritual coaching certification programs exist, excellent coaches don’t automatically spring forth by passing such programs.

Testimonials – How many testimonials for each Spiritual Life Coach resonate for you? While not everyone writes testimonials for Spiritual Life Coaches, it’s safe to assume that for each person who does write glowing words of praise there are many others who feel similarly. You can often learn quite a lot about prospective coaches based on how others appreciate them.

Philosophy – How harmoniously does each coach’s philosophy match yours? Because it’s so helpful to work with a Spiritual Life Coach you can trust, it’s a good idea to find one whose philosophy is similar enough to yours that you feel comfortable. Look for Spiritual Life Coaches who specifically state their philosophy, background and beliefs, and pay attention to whether or not each one is open-minded with regard to assisting those from different religious and spiritual paths.

Methodology - How do each coach’s stated methodologies resonate for you? Some of the most experienced Spiritual Life Coaches have a large variety of possible ways to work with clients, whereas newer Spiritual Life Coaches might have just a few. It’s a good idea to find out what a typical session includes, and what kinds of methodologies are typically employed. While trademarked special processes sound flashy, the best coaches understand that their value comes from the very simple–yet powerful–connection that each of us has to the Divine.

Freedom - What commitments or conditions are required by each coach of their clientele? While most people benefit from continuing Spiritual Life Coaching for a minimum of several months, and preferably several years, beware of coaches who require that you work exclusively with them. Ideally, you should always be free to continue or discontinue working with a Spiritual Life Coach whenever you feel inspired to do, as well as free to work with other advisors as you deem to be best for you.

Availability - How will you communicate with your Spiritual Life Coach? Thanks to telephones and the internet, it’s now possible to work with a Spiritual Life Coach from anywhere in the world. If you feel most comfortable working with someone in person, then look for recommended coaches living in your immediate area. The majority of clients for most Spiritual Life Coaches practicing today are through telephone and Skype connections, and these sessions can be every bit as powerful and productive as the in-person kind.

• Price - How clearly are coaching prices stated, and how affordable are they for you?

How to Prepare for Your Spiritual Life Coaching Session

Spiritual Life Coaching can bring you substantially greater insights and rewards if you do a couple of simple things to prepare yourself prior to each session.

• Initial Status – Take a few minutes to write down the areas you’d most like to see transformed, along with whatever roadblocks or obstructions currently appear to be in the way.  Such a pre-session initial status report serves to remind you of your commitment to gaining a clearer sense of who you are and what you most need in life, and later can provide you with a record of how you are transforming and growing.

• Meditate - Meditate for between five to thirty minutes immediately prior to your coaching session. Breathe deeply and fully to your lower abdomen, while relaxing your muscles and clearing your mind.
