Anger is Not My Brand
Angry Ann by Josh Janssen Flickr creative commons
I’ve been thinking about this post for several weeks now, wanting to present a coherent essay instead of a random assortment of thoughts. The truth of the matter is this has been on my mind for some time.
Back when I first began publishing original stories, I came fresh out of the spill-your-guts school of thought when it came to creating blog posts. I’d spent years on Live Journal, where the anonymity of a fandom name lent to the fiction that...

To KU or not to KU: That is the question…
To KU or not KU, that is the question.
For those of you who might not be familiar with the dilemma, I’m referring to the decision most indie authors face when they go to upload a new book for sale: do I make it exclusive to Amazon, and if so, do I enroll it in the Kindle Unlimited program?
This is rarely an issue for me because I don’t usually self-publish. While I love the idea of publishing on my own schedule, the time constraints of my job mean that my efforts are better spent writing the...

New Release and Giveaway: Broken Solider by Jamie Lynn Miller
I’m so excited to have Jamie Lynn Miller for an interview today, and to share about her latest release, Broken Solider!
I was fortunate enough to meet Jamie at Rainbow Con last summer, and it was like meeting an old friend! We share a lot of the same interests, including our love of sci-fi television shows and hot men in hot water.
Be sure to check out the terrific interview, and leave a comment to be entered for a chance at one of Jamie’s backlist stories.
Without further ado, here’s Jamie...

New release by AC Katt: Marking Kane
Welcome to author AC Katt here today, to share an extended excerpt of her latest M/M shifter romance, Marking Kane. I’m delighted to have her here today, so enjoy the excerpt. I recently had to remove my 18 over only warning on my website, as it was playing havoc with anyone’s ability to enter the site. That being said, the following excerpt is for mature audiences only. Thank you!

Does Sex Really Sell? Genre and Reader Expectations to Consider
Today’s post was prompted in part by this insightful blog post on Sex Scenes by Theo Fenraven. If you haven’t read it yet, go check it out. We’ll wait here for you.
It’s also a topic that my fellow authors and I have been bandying about lately. How much sex is too much? Too little? Just right?
I confess right here, I agree with much of what Theo says about the boredom with reading–and writing–repetitive sex scenes. I was participating in a Facebook conversation the other day, and I mentioned...

The Cult of Anger: Which Wolf will You Feed?
There’s another bruhaha brewing in the M/M romance genre right now, one that seems to have escalated in a little mushroom cloud on Twitter in the last 24 hours.
I don’t know how it started. I know that I’ve seen statements that both anger and insult me. It feels in part like another attempt to tell women we can’t write in certain genres, but it’s more than just that, I believe. The statements and counter-challenges have been flying with the force and unpleasantness of monkeys throwing their o...

Pounds of mud on my shoes: overcoming self-doubt as a writer
I haven’t been in a good place lately. Perhaps it’s because I’ve been stuck at the house for too many weeks now, just me and the animals. Normally, I’m good with this, being the kind of person perfectly capable of entertaining myself and enjoying my own company, but with the frequent storms, I haven’t been as active and I’ve had a little too much time to brood. I’ve been indulging in too much comfort food and I’m seeing a number on the scale I’ve never seen before.
I suspect too, it’s the tim...
