Rangers ended a dramatic week with a trophy after a hard-earned 2-0 Scottish Cup final victory over Hearts after extra-time at Hampden Park

1 min A couple of fouls in the first 53 seconds, one on Lundstram and one by him. Terrific stuff.

1 min Peep peep! Rangers kick off from left to right as we watch.

Everton 3-2 Crystal Palace, Aston Villa 1-1 Burnley: Premier League – as it happened

Dominic Calvert-Lewin completed a legendary comeback that ensured Everton’s survival, while Burnley moved out of the relegation zone

Peep peep! Everton v Crystal Palace is under way at Goodison Park, and it’s hella noisy.

“Goodison is like a wild dog,” says Gary Naylor. “You’re not sure what’s it’s going to do when it’s cornered, but you’re bloody glad when you find out it’s on your side.”

The Fiver | The Premier League trapdoor and gold-encrusted parachutes

Sign up now! Sign up now! Sign up now? Sign up now!

The Fiver has never been able to handle change. Doesn’t matter whether it’s language, recipes, kick-off times, waistlines or anything else: they’re all just reminders that we’re on the Grim Reaper’s radar. In our head, Eintracht Frankfurt won the Uefa Cup on Wednesday night [Big Vase, how many times – Fiver Ed], sick is what you are after a surfeit of Tin and graphics on the ZX Spectrum 128k cannot be bettered. Snickers is the term for a group of English batsmen and literally MEANS EFFING LITERALLY. So, you can imagine the confused state of our tea-timely noggin as it dawned on us that Frank Lampard’s Everton – who have been in the top flight throughout our broadly futile existence – really might go down this season.

Chelsea 3-2 Manchester City (aet): Women’s FA Cup final – as it happened

Sam Kerr’s deflected strike settled a classic match, played in front of a record crowd, and sealed Chelsea’s third Double in five seasons

I knew doing simultaneous MBMs would catch up with me. As you were.

Two changes for Chelsea from the title-winning victory over Manchester United last Sunday. Aniek Nouwen and Beth England replace Niamh Charles and Jonna Andersson, which probably means Guro Reiten will play at wing-back.

Tottenham 1-0 Burnley: Premier League – as it happened

Spurs moved up to fourth after Harry Kane’s debatable penalty settled a nervy game at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

3 min “My online Collins has a mildly amusing second def for DEFENESTRATION,” says Rob Jacques, “as a defiant act of uninstalling the Microsoft operating system.”

Is that true? That sounds suspiciously like WORDPLAY, or maybe even BANTER.

Liverpool beat Chelsea on penalties in FA Cup final – as it happened

Kostas Tsimikas and Alisson were the heroes as Liverpool completed a domestic double by again winning on penalties after a 0-0 draw

Happiness is... a warm gun called Hamlet. It’s also remembering when your side won the FA Cup. A couple of years ago, when we all had bugger all to do because of Covid, liveblog genius Scott Murray wrote retro MBMs on two famous FA Cup final victories for Chelsea and Liverpool. They are brilliant, funny and evocative, and you’re very welcome.

Pre-match quotes, part 2

Aston Villa 1-2 Liverpool: Premier League – as it happened

Sadio Mane scored an excellent winning goal as Liverpool came from behind to keep the pressure on leaders Manchester City

“As a ‘not’ City supporter, my only thing to cling to is the injury record of Haaland this season,” says Brendan Large. “He has missed a few games and that might limit him to only the 40 goals in the PL *crosses fingers*. But as a football fan I am very curious to see if he can turn them into even more of winning machine. It is a scary prospect but also makes me look forward to next season already.”

Same here, it’ll be a fascinating story whatever happens. He’ll score millions, surely, but I suspect he’ll ultimately be judged on the quality of his goals (in this case the timing and significance) rather than the quantity. Shall we just call him a flat-track bully now and get it over with?

Sheffield Wednesday 1-1 Sunderland (agg: 1-2): League One playoff semi-final – as it happened

Patrick Roberts’ dramatic injury-time goal shattered Wednesday and put Sunderland into a playoff final against Wycombe Wanderers

4 min It’s been a confident start from Sunderland, who have clearly come to play.

2 min “Hang on a minute Rob,” says Alex Mac. “These two sides have just broken the record for the highest ever (combined) play off semi final attendances in league one. Surely there is something in the ‘sleeping giant’ cliche?!”
