Taking the plunge!

Happy Monday, peeps!

Hope you're all doing well. I know it's been quiet around here for a while, but it's been for good reason.

I've been writing!

I'm excited to share some big news with you. I'm taking the plunge, diving in, and am braving the self-publishing waters.

Woohoo!

This decision has been a long time coming. I've wanted to venture out on my own for a while now, but haven't had the right project to do so with. That's all changed. Yeah, baby. I've been working on a new series, one that I think is perfect to test the Indie waters with.

So, without further ado, I give you the cover and blurb for my latest work, Cursing Athena:

Blurb:

For Danika, the only thing worse than going commando while wearing a fugly, silver bodysuit, was dealing with her deadbeat, ex-husband James. Catcalls, unwanted groping and lecherous stares weren't really her cup of tea either, but she'd endure all of it and more if her new job serving cocktails at Masquerade meant ridding herself of his mountain of debt. It was just a job, after all, and what choice did she have with James' creditors breathing down her neck? What she didn't bargain for, however, was falling heels-over-head in lust with a two-hundred-plus pound, shape-shifting immortal from Ancient Greece.

On a mission to take down a parasitic demon, Ty doesn't have time for distraction. Not even when that distraction could prove to be his possible lifemate in the form of sweet, innocent, yet sexy-as-hell Danika. But when the leech he's hunting goes after the cocktail waitress, all bets are off. Unable to resist her siren call any longer, Ty surrenders himself to Danika, body and soul, treating them both to a night they'll never forget.
Yeah, baby!

Cursing Athena is a novella, and is book #1 in my new Order Of Seven series. This new series will feature a band of immortal, shape-shifting warriors plucked from the bowels of Hades by the goddess Athena, who police and rid the mortal plane of escaped demons and underworld baddies. Fun, fun, fun!!!

Release date is March 6th! Stay tuned for teasers and more about why I chose to venture out on my own with this series.

Caught excerpt with Cassandra Carr

Hey, peeps! Happy New Year!

I'm excited to have Cassandra Carr at my blog today. She's sharing an excerpt of her latest release, Caught.

Excerpt:

'They're really taking this politically correct thing too far.'

Stepping from the foyer into the living room, Callie spied a twinkling Christmas tree in the corner. On the mantel, a lit menorah burned, the candles flickering as the people nearby jostled for position as more and more guests crammed into the room. This was a boisterous crowd; already drinking like it was New Year's. Advancing further into the room, she noticed the Kwanza decorations and rolled her eyes.  'Pick a holiday and go with it, people. You can't please everyone.' She sought out the host and hostess, old friends from her grad school days, and said hello, handing over the obligatory "Thanks for inviting me" bottle of wine. They chatted for a bit to catch up before she grabbed a cocktail and made her way toward the dining room in search of other former classmates and some food. The smells of the various delicacies wafted by, making her mouth water in anticipation. She had just gotten into town and was starving. Plopping a slice of Cheddar cheese onto a cracker, she stuffed it into her mouth and then looked up -- and everything inside her came to a screeching halt. Jack was there.  With a beer hanging from his long, rough fingers, he leaned against the wall, casual as can be, while her world tilted on its axis. He looked so good-- still the same tall, well-muscled body, still the same olive skin, black hair, and full lips. His Italian ancestry lent him an air of exoticness, and she'd always been a sucker for that.
Her stomach roiled. The cracker caught in her throat, choking her. As she began to cough and sputter, he turned to see what the commotion was, and their gazes met. Callie watched as his eyes went dark with heat and recognition. A blush rushed up her chest through her neck and into her face. With suddenly cold fingers, she touched her burning skin.  He brought his beer to his lips and took a long pull, his tongue sneaking out to catch a stray drop from his top lip. Her gaze followed the movement. His own intense gaze never left her face. Even when his companion said something to him, he merely nodded and kept the whole of his attention on her. She took a fortifying sip of her vodka and cranberry juice, then another, longer gulp, trying to dislodge the cracker from her throat. And still he stared. And she did the same damn thing she'd done three years ago when she'd gotten scared by his demands, his power -- she ran. Cursing herself for her cowardice, she nonetheless wove her way through the crowd, setting her drink down on the nearest available surface as she rushed past. But before she made it to the front door, she felt his hand, still chilled from holding the beer bottle, curl around her overheated arm. "Long time no see. Leaving so soon, Callie?" He pulled her around to face him, he backed her up against the wall in the foyer. With him this close, with his touch and his smell and his sheer size surrounding her, her body betrayed her, just like it always had where he was concerned. Her nipples tightened, her pussy ached, and her breath quickened. "What are you doing here?" She sighed at her own stupidity for asking something so obvious. "These are my friends. A better question to ask is -- what are you doing here?"  "I came back to town for the holidays, and I wanted to see some of my old grad school buddies. I guess I-I didn't think about the possibility of you being here." "Is me being here a problem?" "No," she answered too quickly. "I miss you."  "I miss you too." 'Dammit! What else am I going to admit to him?' "I still want you. I want to touch you. I need to touch you. May I?" At her silent nod, he lightly rested his hand around her throat. Not hard enough to choke, but enough to establish his dominance over her.  'Like he needs to establish that. How could I possibly forget who and what he is?' Callie shivered. God, she wanted him. She'd never been as scared or as excited or felt as alive as she had during the year and a half she had subbed for Jack. Seeing him again made her want to get down on her knees and give him anything he wanted. If she remembered correctly, that was everything. But could he give it back to her? Before, he'd been unable or unwilling to, and when she hadn't been able to handle loving him without reciprocation anymore, she'd left. Her lips were parched, and she darted her tongue out to wet them. His eyes turned black as they blazed back at her. "I want you too." And it was the truth. She wanted him, and this time, she'd have him. If she ran away again, she knew she'd regret it for the rest of her life.

"Are you collared?" "No." "Seeing anyone?" She turned the question around. "Are you seeing anyone?" A strange look passed over his face, but Callie couldn't interpret it before it was gone.  "No. Answer me, Callie -- are you seeing anyone?" "No." Letting out a soft growl, Jack cupped the back of her neck in his large hand and kissed her. There was nothing gentle in his kiss -- there never had been. This kiss was one of possession, of establishing even more control. He pressed in further, molding his body to hers while he continued to plunder her mouth. He didn't force his tongue inside; he didn't have to.  Surrendering, she relaxed and let him take her. He let out a grunt of satisfaction and changed the angle of her head so he could deepen the kiss. He slid a powerful thigh between hers as she moaned from the sensual onslaught.  After long moments he pulled away, grabbed her hand, and led her toward the back of the house. Callie gasped when he pushed her into a bedroom and kicked the door closed. She whirled around to face him but couldn't bring herself to look him in the eye, reverting to the naturally submissive pose of staring at his feet, her hands behind her back. She hadn't subbed for anyone in the three years she'd been gone and was amazed at how quickly the submissive veil slipped over her again. He chuckled. "My pet, you're still a delightful submissive, I see." He took a gentle hold on her chin and pulled her face up to his. "I want you. I've always wanted you, since the moment you walked into my classroom. I know I'm a selfish bastard, but I'm going to ask for this most exquisite Christmas present anyway: will you submit to me again?"  Callie nodded, too overcome with emotion to speak.  "I want to hear the words -- I want you to be sure." "Yes, I'll sub for you," she managed to get out around the lump in her throat."Good. Then you'll be available to me insofar as you're able to, barring other commitments. Do you understand me?" "Yes," she answered, the word hardly loud enough to be considered a whisper. She licked her lips again. "Yes, what?" "Yes, Sir." "By the way, I'm clean. I was tested a few months ago. You?" "Yes, Sir, same." He stepped forward and shoved her to her knees. She went willingly. Callie wanted this -- she wanted to show him she could handle him this time. Keeping her eyes trained on the floor, she waited for his next move. He let her stew for a minute and then pulled her to him, undoing his pants with his other hand. He guided his already-erect cock into her mouth, and she took it, letting his essence wash over her tongue, relearning the contours of the head, the smoothness of the shaft, as he sawed in and out of her mouth with brutal strokes. He'd never been easy on her, and tonight was no exception. He pulled his still-hard cock out of her mouth, resting just the very tip on her bottom lip. "How long are you in town for?" Callie drew back enough to answer, "Through the first of the year."
She looked up in time to see him smile. "Excellent. We have a few weeks, then." He thrust all the way to the back of her throat, and she struggled not to gag. He held the back of her head with both hands, forcing her to take his dick all the way to the root, and held it there for several seconds.  "Where are you staying?" He pulled out again. He had always liked carrying on conversations as Callie sucked him -- reinforcing his dominance by repeatedly pulling out and then shoving back into her mouth as he saw fit. "With Lora," she answered, naming her oldest friend. "Ah, not far from me. I still live on Tremont. Is she going to let you play?" "Lora lets me do whatever I want -- she doesn't judge."  "I think I'm really going to enjoy the holidays for the first time in a long while." He went up on tiptoe and pushed back into her mouth, tilting her head until it was at the angle he wanted, and then began ruthlessly plundering her depths. "It's been a long time since you've tasted my cum, my sweet. You're going to swallow it -- every drop, like the gift it is."  A scant few seconds later, Callie felt his cock swelling even larger, growing even longer, and then after pulling back until only his cockhead remained inside her mouth, he was coming; straining, as jet after jet of warm, salty liquid shot onto her tongue and slid down her throat. When he was finally spent, he withdrew completely and put himself back together. She remained on her knees, the denim of her jeans little protection from the hardwood floor. Some might say she gave in too easily, but as Callie considered the man before her who'd turned her world upside down now for the second time, she knew that wasn't true. Not at all. Her soul was at peace for the first time in years. She was a different person than she'd been all those years ago. Callie was what and where she needed to be: she just had to figure out how to hold on to the fragile sense of contentment she'd discovered tonight. He briefly stroked the side of her face, then leaned down to touch his lips to hers. "Give me your number." She started to reach into the purse that had fallen beside her on the floor. He chuckled. "You may rise." Standing up with her purse, she pulled a small sheet from the memo pad she always kept with her. "Still jotting notes, I see." "Yes, you never know where or when you'll find inspiration," she answered, quoting one of his own mantras back to him. After writing down her cell phone number, she handed him the paper. He held up it and kissed it. "I'll be in touch." After taking one last look at her, he left the room. She sat down on the bed, touching the tips of her fingers to her lips. Undoubtedly he thought he'd scored a great coup, bringing her back into his fold. Little did he realize, though… Sometimes the hunter becomes the hunted.

Damian's Immortal tour stop with Lizzie Ford

Hey, peeps!

Please join me in welcoming author Lizzie Ford to my blog. She's answering questions about her latest release, Damian's Immortal.

1. Congratulations on the release of your latest work, Damian's Immortal. Can you tell us a little bit about it?

"Damian's Immortal" is the third book in my War of Gods paranormal romance series. Damian is the name of the White God, the leader of the good guys. This book in particular is about his brother, Jule, and Jule's mission to find the Magician, a beautiful woman who has basically been enslaved by the man she considers her father. She has a magic power that can help Jule and Damian, but she's been led to think Jule is the enemy and figures out throughout the book that this isn't true. In the meantime, Jule is learning more about who he was before his memory was stripped long ago.

As with all my books, both are faced with tough choices. Yully, the Magician, has to choose between the man she considers her father and Jule. Jule must decide if he's willing to accept what he is, even if he doesn't understand what that means.

This book is particularly fun, because the main heroine's name was chosen by one of my readers. I have to admit, it was an awesome experience to see how excited someone else was about this project!

2. What prompted you to write this particular story? Was there a special event, occurrence, song etc. that sparked an idea?

This one was the result of the natural progression of both the characters and events in the War of Gods series! In "Damian's Oracle," (book 1), I introduced the White God, Damian, and how he found his mate. The book laid the groundwork for the world they're in, the forces of good vs. evil, and hinted at the war in the immortal world and that the status quo for Damian and his brothers was about to change. Damian met his soul mate, a human-turned-Oracle, with incredible power of Seeing the future.

In book two, "Damian's Assassin," I told the story of one of Damian's brothers and the woman who heals his heart and soul. It also furthers the general plot between good and evil, where the Black God (the head bad guy!) is killed and replaced.

"Damian's Immortal," book three was a natural continuation, telling the story of another of Damian's brothers, who finds his mate and partner in the Magician, a beautiful woman with a tragic past. This book laid the groundwork for book four and the war where Damian, his brothers and their mates kick some pesky immortals off the planet.

3. Which of your characters do you relate to the most, and why?

Sofi from "Damian's Immortal." I think it's because she transitions from human to Oracle, and the transition leaves her feeling basically like a freak among freaks! I've felt this way a lot - different even among the swarms of writers I meet. I guess it's one of those outside-looking-in feelings. Sofi has to learn to deal with that, and it's a struggle I've learned to deal with, too.

4. Did you have a character or scene that you struggled with? How were you able to push through?

Not to date, no!

5. If you were able to spend an evening with one of your characters, who would you choose, and why?

Probably A'Ran from my book, "Kiera's Moon." He's strong, sexy, quiet, and has a very strategic mind. We'd get along well!

6. Do you have any writing quirks?

I don't know if it's a quirk, but I'm basically considered to be a freak of nature by most of my counterparts! I write and publish a new book every 30-45 days. I guess that's not normal.

7. Favorite author?

Jane Austen!

8. Favorite book?

"Pride and Prejudice." LOVE that book. I read it again every year.

9. What are three things your readers don't know about you?

1. I'm extremely shy in real life. I think I come across as sociable through my email, website, social media … but I can go a whole day without talking!

2. I have one sister.

3. I love to cook.

10. What is the strangest thing you've ever eaten?

When I was a little girl, I ate round dirt balls. No idea why, but I'd only eat the round ones.

11. What is the craziest thing you've ever done?

I went to Ireland alone on vacation one year. Just bought a plane ticket one weekend, packed, and left for a week. It was awesome! Scared the heck out of my family and friends, but I had a great time!

12. If the Rhyn Trilogy were made into a movie, who would you like to see cast?

The Rhyn Trilogy is my most popular series, and I think it'd translate the best to the big screen. I'd love to see Jason Mamoa cast as Rhyn. I'm a huge Jason Mamoa fan in general! I think I'd prefer new talent for his love interest, Katie. I have a particular look for her in mind, and I can't think of anyone out there that would be a good match!

Thanks so much for stopping by, Lizzie!

Book recommendation- Vamped Up by Kristin Miller

Hey, peeps! Happy Thursday!
I've got a book recommendation for you today. If any of you follow my channel on Youtube, you'll know I've been chatting about Kristin Miller's Vampires Of Crimson Bay series. Book one, Intervamption has been out for a few months, and the sequel, Vamped Up just released on the 6th of this month.

If you're a fan of dark, gritty paranormal romance, than this is the series for you! Check out the cover and blurb below, as well as my mini review of the story. This is definitely a must read series, and one I think any fan of paranormal romance or urban fantasy will enjoy.

Blurb ( taken from Goodreads):

"Vampires in Crimson Bay have been saved by the successful duplication of Eve's pure blood. The threat to her safety is gone, Ruan. You can return to our haven. But if you choose the love of a mundane over the duty to your khiss, you're on your own."—Note from the San Francisco Primus

"I said stop, Eve." A dark musky smell emitted from Ruan's skin. It was possession. Deep rooted need. "You don't know what you're asking of me."

Eve had spent an entire month begging Ruan to drink from her. To share one of the most erotic experiences a vampire and mundane could share. Yet he'd denied her. Now, there was no turning back.

"Either drink from me now, proving to yourself that you have the strength to do this, or let me fulfill my personal obligation to your race on my terms." Stifling a gasp, she punctured her skin with the tip of the blade, then lifted the steel to examine it. Her blood, red and thick, hung on the edge. "That's only fair, given what we both want, don't you think?"

With a hollow-sounding groan, Ruan snatched her hand and licked her palm, sending chills exploding through her hand.

My review:

Vamped Up, book two in Kristin Miller's Vampires Of Crimson Bay series is a fast-paced, dark, gritty paranormal romance that doesn't disappoint. The story picks up shortly after book one (Intervamption) left off, with the hero and heroine, Ruan and Eve in the beginning stages of their relationship. Ruan's feelings for Eve are powerful and strong. But, his bloodlust is even stronger, and he finds himself battling some serious demons as he fights to move forward in his relationship with Eve. A hazy recollection of his past combined with violent dreams of bleeding Eve dry send him reeling. Afraid of what might happen should he give into both his and Eve's desires, he keeps her at arms length and immerses himself in the search for the Grimorium Verum, the sacred book that contains the ancient scrolls of the vampire race. What Ruan doesn't know is that Eve isn't just an ordinary mundane. She's a crucial player in the war between vampires and therians with a past that's linked to his.

I thoroughly enjoyed Vamped Up. My favorite characters from Intervamption return, along with a few new gems who hooked me right away. Kristin does a great job of showing Ruan's anguish and self-loathing, and Eve's reaction in turn. She also does a bang up job writing dark, evil characters. Savage returns in this installment in a big way, and with him, a very compelling storyline. Between the unique lore, the fated love story and the non-stop action, Vamped Up has a little something for everyone. I highly recommend.

You can find more information about Kristin, as well as buy links to all of her books at her author page on Amazon.

The Girl Most Likely tour with Jana Richards

Please join me in welcoming Jana Richards to my blog today!

Jana will be giving away a $20 GC to The Wild Rose Press to one random commenter, and a $20 Amazon GC to one commenter along the tour. Make sure to weigh in with a comment at the end of the post!

Give it away, Jana!

I love that you've created a hero that's younger then the heroine. We typically see heroines who are younger than their hunky lovers. What made you switch things up?

It was for that exact reason, because we rarely see an older heroine/younger hero, that I decided to go in that direction. I wanted to do something that was a little different, and a little out of the norm for romance novels. Also, I wanted to make things difficult for my heroine Cara. Her husband has left her, and she's gained weight, two things that have contributed to her losing much of the confidence she used to have in high school. She's now over forty, and not only feeling unattractive, but old. She simply cannot believe that a younger, very good-looking man could find her desirable. So Finn really has to work hard to make her believe his feelings for her are genuine. But ultimately, Cara must come to accept herself, and learn to grab happiness by the throat, no matter what other people (including her mother) think about it.

What was your inspiration for setting the story around a high school reunion?

I'd like to claim the high school reunion setting as my own idea, but I actually have to give all the credit to my publisher The Wild Rose Press and my editor, Kathy Cottrell. "The Girl Most Likely" is part of the Class of '85 series which centers around the graduates of Summerville High School in fictional Summerville, New York, and their 25th year reunion. Some of the graduates have lived in Summerville since graduation while others are returning for the first time in years. Some old loves are rekindled, while others meet the loves of their lives for the first time while preparing for the reunion.

That's the case for Cara and Finn. If she has to go to this reunion, she wants to go a few pounds lighter. Finn is a physical trainer, and Cara employs him to whip her into shape in the six weeks leading up the reunion. I think a high school reunion is a stressful occasion. We want to impress our classmates with our success in life as well as our attractiveness. You don't want to be the person that everyone whispers about at the reunion, as in "Did you see Cara? I can't believe how old she looks!" or "I can't believe how much weight Cara's gained. She's really let herself go."

I love that these stories all revolve around the reunion. High school reunions are perfect for tender romance and heightened angst!

We've all seen stories where the underdog from high school grows up, sheds his/her ugly duckling shell and becomes a strong, beautiful individual both inside and out. What was it like writing a story where the girl who had it all has fallen from her pedestal?

Actually, my first instinct was to write a story like that because it's such a great premise. But since "The Girl Most Likely" is part of a series, I expected that the theme of the high school underdog would be explored by other writers, and I knew I'd have to come up with something just a little different. What if my heroine had been one of the 'popular' girls in high school? What if she had, at least to an outside observer, the perfect life and the perfect marriage? And then, what if she lost it all? I wanted to see Cara pick herself up, dust herself off, and start all over again. I wanted her to realize she was more than her looks. Cara's journey is discovering that she is a worthwhile, strong, independent woman no matter how much she weighs.

I wanted Finn's story to be a little different, too. I've given him a couple of secrets that make him a slightly unusual romance hero. But I think his secrets make him completely perfect for Cara!

Thanks for having me on your blog today Lisa!

Book blurb:
Hechuckled. "Jessica better watch her back. You could give her a run for hermoney."Heheard Cara's throaty laugh, and various parts of his anatomy tingled inresponse. "Yes, that's my evil plan. Take over Rochester Noon, then the world.""Ifyou set your mind to it, I'm sure you could do it.""ThanksFinn.""Forwhat?""Forbelieving in me.""Areyou going to be okay now?""Yes,I'm fine. Thanks to you."Hewanted so badly to tell her he loved her, adored her, thought she was the mostamazing woman in the world. But fear stopped him. Was she truly over herex-husband? Why else would losing weight for the reunion be so important to herif not to impress Peter? "I'vegot to run. Thanks again. I'll talk to you later at my condo, right?""Absolutely.I can hardly wait to hear about your big TV debut. Break a leg. Isn't that whatthey say in show biz?"Shelaughed. "Yeah, that's what they say. Poughkeepsie blog tour with Debra Anastasia

Hey, peeps!

Super excited about today's post! Author Debra Anastasia is promoting her latest work, Poughkeepsie, and is hosting a giveaway on this particular tour stop. Woot!!

Check out the cover!

POUGHKEEPSIE

He counts her smiles every day and night at the train station. And morning and evening, the beautiful commuter acknowledges him—just like she does everyone else on the platform. But Blake Hartt is not like the others . . . he's homeless. Memories of a broken childhood have robbed him of peace and twisted delusions into his soul. He stays secluded from the sun, sure the world would run from him in the harsh light of day.

Each day, Livia McHugh smiles politely and acknowledges her fellow commuters as she waits for the train to the city. She dismisses this kindness as nothing special, just like her. She's the same as a million other girls—certainly no one to be cherished. But special or not, she smiles every day, never imagining that someone would rely on the simple gesture as if it were air to breathe.

When the moment comes that Livia must do more than smile, without hesitation she steps into the fray to defend the homeless man. And she's surprised to discover an inexplicable connection with her new friend. After danger subsides, their smiles become conversation. Their words usher in a friendship, which awakens something in each of them. But it's not long before their bond must prove its strength. Entanglements from the past challenge both their love and their lives.

Blake's heart beats for Livia's, even if her hands have to keep its rhythm. Love is patient. Love is kind. Love never fails. Love never fails, right?

In an interwoven tale of unlikely loves and relationships forged by fire, Debra Anastasia takes readers into the darkest corners of human existence, only to show them the radiant power of pure adoration and true sacrifice. Complicated families and confused souls find their way to light in this novel, which manages to be racy, profane, funny, and reverent all at once.

New video blog!

Hey, peeps! Long time to no talk!

My deepest apologies for being gone so long. My family was struck with a horrible case of the flu that morphed into a handful of other nasty things. We've been sick for several weeks, and are just now getting back onto our feet. Yay!

Thought I would kick things off with a video for ya, where I recommend some awesome books as possible Christmas gifts for the book lover in your life.

Hope you enjoy. Have a great day!!
