A Thought: Visualized
Yeah, even though the Japanese researches used a fish, this is just amazing to see. Puts it into perspective how much of this “lightning” is going on inside our own heads all the time. Gotta love science.

Do You Need a Technical Co-Founder? If So, Stop Asking.
Seems counter-intuitive, right? If you are missing a vital piece of your business, you need to go out and find it. But that’s just the point. Finding it and asking for it are two different things. And according to Jason Freedman over at 42floors.com, you don’t just get a technical co-founder. You earn one.

Some of his critical thoughts on how to earn that technical co-founder are below but there’s more at the link above. And...
Who Owwwnnn Da Chiefs…
A light-hearted title from one of my all-time favorite comedies, Slapshot, to preface an absolutely silly story:
http://science.slashdot.org/story/11/07/11/165217/Court-to-Decide-If-Man-Can-Keep-His-Moon-Rock
Really? We are spending tax-payer money to decide if a man should be able to keep a rock from the moon? And what right does anyone on this planet have to say about rocks from the moon? Is the argument, “hey, we spent the money to go up there so it technically belongs to us?” Well, didn’t w...
So You Want to be a Writer?
Brainpickings.com (one of my favorite intellectual fodder sites) has a great piece posted on the new poems from Charles Bukowski. One such poem, “so you want to be a writer,” lays it out for those of us with the muse. It’s not a torture. It’s not hard. Sure I sometimes fret over a word or a sentence. But writers write in their heads. All. The. Time. The worst is when I am driving and writing parts of a book or a blog or something and knowing that I’ll never be able to capture it all (without...

Why Kids Don’t Like to Read
Of course, this is a gross generalization but it’s meant as such. There are always kids that love to read but why are we seeing a decline in reading levels nationwide? Why are kids turning away from books?
A huge part of this argument really revolves around culture. Think back to the days of the Dime Novels. Admittedly pulp fiction (with little cultural value), they still entranced readers of all ages. Reading was truly a way to “escape” from the harshness of reality. Unfortunately, in today’s...
Marketing Smack Down by Audi for 2013 SB (Storytelling Awesomeness)
Yes, Audi gets it. Big time. Storytelling awesomeness complete with engagement (i.e., pulling in user-generated content). Every major brand should look at this as the new bar. Get the user to connect with your story, with the characters. Give them something to gain, something to lose. Give them conflict. Make that connection and people will be lining up to get the damn car. This kind of dynamic marketing is the future of connecting to customers in a noisy, noisy world…and a good slap in the f...

Companies that get storytelling
I love it when I stumble upon companies (especially those that I already admire like ToyTalk) that get storytelling and how important it is in our lives, from connecting with people to buying products to creating things. Great blog post.

Amazing Death Valley Dreamlapse (from National Geographic)
Although I have posted the video here, you can also check out the full article on Nat Geo’s website (http://newswatch.nationalgeographic.c...). Death Valley really is a stunning place of extremes and the video captures that through a ton of time-lapse photography with some stunning long-exposure night-time shots.
