Remember Our Veterans
Today, I’m remembering my father-in-law who was a Pearl Harbor survivor. He was only twenty years old on Dec. 7, 1941 and he was a PBY mechanic living in the barracks on Ford Island.
His love for motorcycles saved his life. His prize possession was a 1940 Harley Davidson knucklehead. On his days off, he and his friends would race their bikes through the pineapple fields. Several of them went together and rented a small room near the pineapple field where they had permission to ride so they didn’t have to drive back to the base after they did night runs. That’s where he was when Pearl Harbor was attacked. If he hadn’t been there, he would have been in the barracks.
He rarely talked about that day and when he did, he focused on the events that lead him back to the base but couldn’t bring himself to go into detail about what they found once they reached Pearl Harbor. He didn’t want people calling him a Pearl Harbor survivor because he wasn’t on base when the attack occurred and he felt calling himself a survivor detracted from the men who lost their lives. But he really was a survivor. He was sent to Midway Island–the day after the battle of Midway. Guess he was just destined to be my father-in-law even though his first son wasn’t born until he was 40. His last when he was 50.
My father-in-law was one of those happy-go-lucky guys that everyone loved. He was humble, kind, generous and honorable. I remember the first time I met my husband’s parents. They were so warm and welcoming. Later, my mother-in-law told me, “It was like we were just waiting for you to walk through the door.” And my husband revealed his dad had pulled him aside that day and whispered in an admiring tone, “Where did you find her?”
We lost Pop four years ago at the age of 88. He lived a full life, had three wonderful sons and he’s still deeply missed. Who are you remembering this Veteran’s Day?

Review Crew Members Wanted.
Hey guys, there’s still a few openings left on my review crew. In exchange for an honest review on either Barnes and Noble, Goodreads and/or Amazon, I will send you a free copy of my latest book whenever it’s released. (Periodically, there will also be prizes and giveaways to crew members.) The catch? I want true fans, not someone just looking for free books and you’ll be required to post your review within three weeks of the release date. If you can meet these guidelines, I’d love to have you on the review crew. The Christmas Cookie Collection will be released on Oct. 29th, so if you’d like to be considered for the review crew, please shoot an email to: loriwilde02@yahoo.com and my assistant will process your application. If you can’t commit now, but would like to be considered at a later day, just let me know.

High Times
Just got back from a research trip to the Albuquerque Balloon Festival.
It was awesome! For all you Breaking Bad fans, we arrived on the day they printed Walt White’s obit in the paper, so we got a cool souvenir. I was privileged to hang out with amazing writer, Gabi Stevens. I always love hanging with Gabi. We went to see the Titanic exhibit and had great Mexican food in the outdoor garden of a popular restaurant in Old Albuquerque. Then Gabi took me to The Candy Lady where I bought some of the blue meth rock candy made famous from Breaking Bad. Great fun.
While this was a trip to research ballooning for an upcoming book, the Albuquerque Balloon Festival has long been on my bucket list. The event surpassed my expectations. If you’re ever in New Mexico in early October you’ve gotta go.

Cookies, Cookies, Cookies!
Hey guys,
For the release of my next book, The Christmas Cookie Collection (Oct. 29th)….
I return to Twilight, Texas. This books is a compilation of three novellas, The Christmas Cookie Chronicles: Carrie, Raylene and Christine, that previously were only available in ebook format. There’s a bonus short story called Grace, about the birth of Jesse and Flynn’s baby. If you’ve already read the first three books on your ereader, you’ll be able to buy Grace as a stand alone story in ebook format on Dec. 23.
To celebrate, I’m giving away a subscription to a gourmet cookie of the month club. 12 cookies, 12 times a year, featuring such delicious cookies as snickerdoodles, chocolate chip, oatmeal raison, lemon coconut and lots more. Gift card winner
I want to thank everyone who responded to my call for research help. You guys are so creative! It was difficult to chose which scenarios best fit with my story. In the end, I decided to go with the hero putting the little girl in the kitchen sink to hose her off after she gets sticky/dirty. Two of you suggested that. So the $10 gift card winners are…Kathleen O and Linda Johnston. Please email me @ loriwilde@aol.com to claim your prize.
