What I’m reading….

This week, I’ve been reading…er, listening…to Carolyn Brown’s SOMETIMES SISTERS and it is delightful. I know Carolyn, and I can hear her personality coming through in the feisty character of Granny Annie. Carolyn expertly spins a tale of three estranged sisters finding their way back to each other the summer of their grandmother’s death. It’ so well done. I’m really enjoying this book. Kudos, Carolyn.

I particularly got a kick out the Easter egg where one of the characters is reading her favorite author and it turns out to be Katie Lane! Katie is a good friend of Carolyn’s and a fabulous author. All three of us–plus Laura Drake, Cynthia D’Alba, Christie Craig, Melissa Cutler, Maggie McGinnis, and Linda Warren are on Western Romance Cafe. If you’re on Facebook, join us for a fun, lively discussions about books and cowboys!

If you haven’t read SOMETIMES SISTERS go snag a copy. I promise you won’t regret it!

To Tame A Wild Cowboy

Here’s the cover for the third book in the Lockharts of Cupid, Texas series. (Out in the spring of 2019)

This is Rhett’s story and it’s the first time I’ve written the marriage of convenience trope. I found it quite challenging to write because it turns the whole “first comes love, then comes marriage” adage on its head. But I suspect that’s what makes MOC plots so much fun to read.

Here’s the blurb:

What would it take to tame a wild cowboy?

One minute, Rhett Lockhart is a love ‘em and leave ‘em bull rider with a slow, sexy smile, a swagger, and not a care in the world. The next, he learns his free-wheeling days are over: a baby has been abandoned in the hospital, and there’s no question: he’s the father. But from the first moment he gazes into his daughter’s eyes, he knows the moment has come to say ‘no’ to no-strings. It’s time to grow up.

Standing in his way is the baby’s foster mother, Tara Alzate, who doesn’t quite believe Rhett is ready to change his ways. Still, she’s not not immune to his considerable charms, so when he proposes a marriage of convenience and shared custody against her better judgement she says “I do.” Can Tara tame this wild cowboy and make her own, long-buried dreams come true?

  A Cupid, Texas novel

Do you like MOC plots? Would you ever enter into a marriage of convenience? If so, why? If not, what could happen that would change your mind about that?

Fun at Thrillerfest and RWA 2018

Hi All!

For the past two weeks I’ve been out and about in the world. Hitting Thrillerfest in NYC and RWA in Denver. What fun we had. Here’s some pictures from the conferences. Just for fun, guess who I’m with…

Getting Real

I came across this passage today from the Velveteen Rabbit and it really touched me. Thought I would share.

“What is REAL? Does it hurt?” asked the Rabbit.

“Sometimes,” said the Skin Horse, for he was always truthful. “When you are Real you don’t mind being hurt.”

“Does it happen all at once, like being wound up,” he asked, “or bit by bit?”

“It doesn’t happen all at once,” said the Skin Horse. “You become. It takes a long time. That’s why it doesn’t happen often to people who break easily, or have sharp edges, or who have to be carefully kept. Generally, by the time you are Real, most of your hair has been loved off, and your eyes drop out and you get loose in the joints and very shabby. But these things don’t matter at all, because once you are Real you can’t be ugly, except to people who don’t understand.”

― Margery Williams, The Velveteen Rabbit

Many times, as we grow older, we believe we lose our vibrancy and vitality and our worth. But as we age, if we can stay strong and resilient, if we can round off our sharp edges and accept life as it comes, we too will become REAL.

During my life, books and reading have helped me become more real. Keep reading, my friends. Books truly are the key to whole new worlds.

Saving Allegheny Green

Dear Readers,

I got the rights back from Harlequin on one my favorite books, Saving Allegheny Green.

This book is actually a prequel to my Twilight, Texas series and it’s written in first person. It’s part mystery/part romance. My goal is to completely revise it for a modern audience and self-publish in ebook for free as a gift to my readers.

Have you read Saving Allegheny Green? If so, should I leave the romance-mystery mix 50/50 or it weight it more heavily toward romance? And if no, would you download a free ebook of Saving Allegheny Green?

Much love,

Lori

Blurb:

Allegheny “Ally” Green has spent her entire life being the voice of reason in Twilight, Texas. Between her family and her nursing job at the local Hospital, Ally’s hands are too full for things like ever lasting love and personaly fulfillment. After all, when your aunt chats with the deceased and your sister shoots her cheating boyfriend in the foot, someone has to pay the bill.

Then dead bodies start turning up–including her sister Sissy’s ex. And when Sissy, herself becomes the sheriff’s number one suspect, it’s up to Ally to save the day yet again…All she has to do is track down a murderer, save her sister, avoid any romantic notions involving the sheriff and find a life of her own.

Make Your Own Videos Easily with Animoto

Hey y’all!

I just had to share this awesome software I found called Animoto.

I downloaded some stock photos. (I used Fotolia and a picture one of my readers, Christie Conlee, made for me.)

Came up with a few slogans and presto, in 10 minutes I created this video. From now on I’m making an Animoto video for all my books before I even start writing. If a Ludite like me can figure it out, anyone can do it.

Animoto is so much fun to use, you’re going to love it. https://animoto.com
