June 24, 2015: Coloring Matters: Munchkin 3 Clerical Errors Gets A New Look

Munchkin 3 Clerical Errors Before and After
We're perfectionists. Sometimes this gets in our way, sure, but most of the time, having high standards for everything means that you, the customer, get better products. Case in point: Munchkin 3: Clerical Errors . The coloring on the cards just wasn't popping the way we wanted it to. It wasn't right.

So we changed it. We updated it. You can see the old and new version of a card in the picture on this post and, as you'll see, the change is quite subtle. But it wasn't right. We wanted to make it right. So we did.

This is also not the last such color change we'll do; several Munchkin expansions will be releasing in the future with similar color updates, so keep an eye out for them!

June 23, 2015: A Week Off

Fnord

The Steve Jackson Games office (and Warehouse 23) will be closing down on June 27 and opening back up on July 6. Every year, we close down for the week of Independence Day; it gives us all a chance to spend time with our families, and gives us a much-needed vacation.

Because the Warehouse will be closed during that time, we won't be shipping any packages during that time either. Any orders you place before noon Central on June 26 will go out that same day; any orders placed after that time will wait until we return on July 6.

We at Steve Jackson Games hope you all have a great 4th of July!

June 21, 2015: Crowdfunding Focus: "For The Love Of Spock"

Crowdfunding Focus

Shortly before his death earlier this year, Leonard Nimoy had begun working with his son, Adam (a screenwriter and director himself) on a documentary about the elder Nimoy's most famous character: Spock, whose history in Star Trek dates back to the very first pilot, before Kirk, McCoy, Uhura, and the rest of the familiar crew had been written.

Adam Nimoy has decided to complete the film as a tribute to his late father and has started a Kickstarter campaign (ending July 1) to allow fans of Star Trek, and specifically of Leonard Nimoy, to be a part of this documentary. Leonard Nimoy's somewhat ambivalent relationship to the character of Spock over the years has been well documented, and I expect this film to shed a lot of light on the evolution of his feelings about the character and how it shaped his entire life.

I had the privilege of hearing Leonard Nimoy speak a few times and I expect this project to be just as powerful and meaningful for the people who view it as those talks were to me.

June 20, 2015: Farewell, Sir Christopher Lee

The first film I saw Sir Christopher Lee in was what he considered to be his best: The Wicker Man . Then I discovered he was awesome with a sword in his hand, whether in the woods in the dark or on a slippery frozen lake. And I fell in love with his voice.

Being a Tolkien fan myself (you could use "fan" instead of "obsessed," I suppose), I was delighted to discover that he was a fan as well, and I envy that he was able to meet the author in person. Ever since I saw The Wicker Man I thought Lee had the perfect voice for Saruman the White. And lo! He did! He also voiced Death in some Pratchett films, and he was perfect for that, too.

But Sir Christopher was much much more than an actor. He was a linguist. He was a scholar. He was a soldier. He made heavy metal music well into his 90s. He had enough life experiences for six people. In my opinion, there will never be another person as all-around awesome – in the sense that he would always leave me slack-jawed awed – in the world. Not only will he be missed, he will never be equalled.

June 15, 2015: New Games For October

We've got several new things to talk about that are coming out in October. Let's get started!

Munchkin Steampunk Deluxe

Munchkin Steampunk Deluxe

While Munchkin Steampunk Deluxe releases in many local game stores in August, it'll see a wider release to the hobby in October. Then, in 2016, you'll start to see it filter into even more stores!

Grab your gears, put on your top hat, whack the monsters, and grab the treasure . . . with the power of SCIENCE! Munchkin Steampunk Deluxe brings the zaniness of Munchkin to the pseudo-Victorian steampunk era. Bully!

Munchkin Steampunk Deluxe comes with a board and standies for tracking your level, and is illustrated by Phil Foglio!

Munchkin Treasure Hunt

Munchkin Treasure Hunt

Munchkin Treasure Hunt used to be exclusive to Toys 'R' Us, but in October you'll be able to find it in your local store!

Explore the Dungeon!

Be careful, though. Monsters live here, and they don't want you taking their stuff. Too bad! Chase away the monsters, grab that loot, and run! Get the most treasure and win!

Munchkin Undead

Munchkin Undead

(booster)

The Monsters are Back . . . From the Dead!

It just doesn't feel like a dungeon worth exploring without hordes of undead! Munchkin Undead adds 15 new monsters, curses and items all dealing with the formerly living. Get your pointy sticks and your chainsaws ready because it's time to kill them all over again!

Munchkin Imaginary Frenemies

Munchkin Imaginary Frenemies

You can't clear thousands of dungeons without making a few Frenemies . . . so that's what we did! As long as your Imaginary Frenemies are safely stored inside their blister, they help you in combat . . . but if you release them to get at the cards inside, you can't use their rule anymore. Oh, temptation!

Special Rule

As long as this package remains unopened, you may keep your Imaginary Frenemies in front of you as a +2 combat bonus. It cannot be lost to Curses, Bad Stuff, or theft, and stays with you even if you die.

At any time, you may open the package, releasing your Frenemies , and draw as many Treasures as there are players in your game. Keep one of the Treasures for yourself and give each other player one each.

Sign the two Door cards inside (Yes! With a REAL pen! In permanent ink!) and put them in your hand as well. When you play a card that you have signed, it has double effect. Save this card so you remember this rule in the future!

Munchkin Steampunk Kill-o-Meter

Munchkin Steampunk Kill-o-Meter

The best Munchkin fights are the ones where everyone plays cards to keep the levels bouncing up and down! But it can be hard to keep track. Now you'll never have to stop and recount again!

With the Munchkin Steampunk Kill-O-Meter , whenever a card hits the table, you turn the dials to keep track of your new total. You don't have time to stop and count when you've got science to do . . .

The Munchkin Steampunk Kill-O-Meter comes with two special Munchkin Steampunk bonus cards – and since the dials can be read from either side, we put the munchkins on one side and their foes on the other.
