New Book Announcement!!
EXCITING ANNOUNCEMENT!! I am thrilled to say that my new novel is called “And The Ocean Was Our Sky”, will be lavishly illustrated by the brilliant Rovina Cai (she drew the eye in the picture), and will be out simultaneously next fall in the U.K., Ireland, USA, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. It started with me asking myself the question, “What if Moby Dick was told by the whale?” and got weirder from there… Hope you like it! 9-ish months to go.

Hello!
I have so badly ignored this site. I’ll really try harder, I promise. Ugh, social media though, huh? THE ADDICTION TO IT IS INSANE!! I check it compulsively, even when I don’t want to, even (especially) when I’ve got work to do. Today is my birthday, for example, and I couldn’t stop checking it for birthday stuff! I’m a grown human! Unfortunately, my OCD has found a foothold there and, despite having tried different approaches for years, nothing’s worked so far so:
I’m deactivating my...

A Monster Calls out soon!
Hey, guys, I know, I’ve been remiss here, but I promise to keep it up better. For now, the two big things are that A Monster Calls opens in the US (limited) on 23 December and wide on 6 January, and opens nationwide in the UK on 1 January. Hope you like it!
And the complete series of Class is up now on BBC Three and BBC iPlayer! Have a look.
Next year brings a new book, too, Release. So lots to come! Events and touring, too.
More soon about everything. All best. Patrick

Carnegie Shortlist (and Inkies!)
What a pleasure to find out that The Rest of Us Just Live Here is on the Carnegie Shortlist. They’ve been so kind and generous to me, and I’m so thrilled Rest of Us is there! If I win, I’d be the first to win a third medal, which would have been unthinkable when I started out. All I wanted to do was get a book published! And really, I’m from a small town where absolutely nobody famous comes from or anyone does anything like write books. If I can get here from there, you really can, too, I mea...
