Why I Love Fairy Tales
My publisher, Scholastic, is turning 100 this month! To celebrate, a bunch of Scholastic authors wrote essays for a booklet called “100 Reasons to Love Reading.” Click here to download a free copy.

Poisoned: The Voice in the Mirror
Many of us have complicated relationships with our mirrors. We see too much when we look into them, or not enough. We hear a voice — maybe our own, maybe someone else’s — telling us that our face is wrong. Our hair is wrong. Our body is wrong.
I think that voice is the same one the Evil Queen heard in Snow White/Poisoned and I think it’s what made her so cruel.
Poisoned is out on October 20 and on sale now!

Poisoned: Adelaide, the Evil Queen
Poisoned, my retelling of Snow White, is out next week! I’m starting the countdown with a reading for you. It’s about one of the biggest inspirations behind Poisoned — the evil queen, Adelaide. But it’s also about Elizabeth Tudor, her sister Mary, and every other princess whose father wanted a boy, not her. I’ve never been able to make it through this reading dry-eyed. Thought maybe I could this time, but I was wrong.

This special teaser edition is the first 36 pages of the story. It’s just a few chapters, but it will introduce you to Sophie, the main character of this Snow White retelling — and you might get a hint of whom the evil queen is talking to in that mirror on the wall.
