Swells of Silence
Rememberthe good times we used to know
Backwhen the world was our friend.
Wewere invincible, running through meadows,
Thinkingthat we’d never end.
Talkingand laughing with two million people,
Dancingfrom twilight til dawn.
Nowwe are lost in these deep swells of silence
Wonderingwhere our love has gone.
Youreyes would light up. Oh, how they’d sparkle
WheneverI entered the room.
Icouldn’t wait for the sound of your laughter
Tocarry me over the moon.
Sweetconversation with no hesitation
Wasalways so easy back then.
Whycan’t we get past these deep swells of silence
Andget back to where we began?
Itshould be easy.
Itshould be simple
Tobring us back into the light,
Butall I keep hearing
Aredeep swells of silence
Echoinginto the night.

Over and Over
Seemslike we’re caught in a crossfire
Thatneither of us wants to end.
Ikeep confessing my love for you,
Butyou say we should just be friends.
I’vewalked through that portal a million times,
Butyou closed it just like before,
AndI just keep falling in love
Overand over.
It’snot your fault.
Youhave to be who you are.
It’sall on me and my grand obsession.
Commonsense can only take me so far.
Sometimesyou can be such a temptress
AndI can’t resist a reprise.
Yourways and your wiles drive me crazy
UntilI melt into your eyes.
There’snothing on this side of heaven or hell
Tomake my heart stop wanting you.
Ijust keep falling in love
Overand over.
Nexttime I’m hoping you’ll see it,
You’llwant to be more than friends,
Cometo my arms for a lifetime
Andwe’ll cast our fates to the wind.
Butif you can’t offer your true love
Myheart resets where it begins,
AndI’ll just keep falling in love
Overand over.
Myheart keep falling in love
Overand over.

Feel the Rhythm
Doyou feel the rhythm flowing
Throughthe life-veins of the street?
Catchthe gentle rolling motion
Asit plays beneath your feet.
Inthe early morning prattle
Froma layered world of dreams
Comesan overflow of memory
Floatingsoft upon a stream.
Andthe way to turn is so clear
Asyou step into the heat.
You’rejust listening to the rhythm
Andfollowing the beat.
It’sa million miles to Heaven
Butthe journey can be sweet
Ifyou let the rhythm carry you away.
There’sa postcard in your mailbox
Froma lover far away,
Andyou read each word a thousand times
Tilthe letters seem to fade.
Andthe rhythm of the words fall softly
Fromthe printed page
Andform another memory
Tolock into your safe.
Butthe world keeps spinning,
Swayingto the rhythm of your soul
Tilthe evening falls just like a welcome friend,
Andthe beat subsides but never dies,
Justrests upon your mind,
Andtomorrow you will start it all again,
Andthe rhythm wraps its arms around you
Likea long lost friend.

Let It Go
He said, "We will last forever."
She said, "'Til death dowe part."
He said, "You are myeverything."
She said, "You have allmy heart."
He bade, "What more canyou give me?"
"I have no more",she replied.
He said, "This is notenough!"
She said nothing as she cried.
"I don't know what youwant from me,"
She uttered through herbitter tears.
He mocked and scoffed,"I shouldn't have to
Tell you after all theseyears."
She clings with hope for someresolve;
Confused, bewildered by histake,
But both are silent, mute outof respect
Each for the other's sake.
But they both know that it'sover,
Curtain's fallen on the show.
The end has come...
No curtain call...
It's time to let it go.

Watching the Freak Show
Now, I'm no raving beauty,it's true,
But there is one thing, forsure, that I know.
The freaks are alive and theylive everywhere,
And they never fail to put ona show.
They travel the halls andthey frequent the malls
Aimlessly roaming the streetswithout fear,
And I wonder and ponder asthey pass me by
Is it possible they own amirror?
If they do, do they use it?For I just can't see
How they hope to beunderstood.
Do they stand there before itand think to themselves,
"Damn it all! I'mlooking good!"
It seems that they've reallygone out of their way
To tickle the fringe of thetruly absurd.
My thought is to laugh, but Ihold it inside,
And just shake my head...Don't say a word.
Oh! To be different! To standfrom the crowd.
To totally be so unique.
The price that you pay tohave people say
As they point at you,"Look at the freak!"

Putting Out Fires
Sometimes the flames crowd
The distant horizons asthough
The sunset is scorching theEarth
With her dazzling brilliance
Consuming the hills and theforests
Surrounding in everydirection.
Little to do, when the fireslose their mercy,
But stand back and watch
As they dance in the dark.
Hoping they stay at atolerable distance
Lest we are caught in herhorrible rage.
Ready to run as she growsever closer,
Feeling the brush of her heaton my cheeks,
Praying the Heavens to opentheir bounty
And drown her passion withtorrents of rain.
Standing and staringtransfixed
On her beauty. Longing toknow her
In intimate ways, yet fearingher fury
That grows ever stronger.
Torn by emotions... Lost in adaze,
A groundswell of longings thatgrows ever higher.
Do I become one with, or putout the fire.

Stop! Thief!
I used to have a heart, asoul,
A spirit filled with promisethat was
Blind to passion's overfill, theoverkill
That cuts the vein and
Lays it open 'til the flow
Of heavy blood has paid thetoll,
And the heart is starved ofprecious life
Drowning in a sea of pain.
I was happily naive,
Exuberantly overjoyed
Until you made your entrancelike
An actor walking on a stage;
Pondering your audience,
Lines rehearsed, emotionspackaged
Waiting for the moment to
Unleash your frightening fitsof rage.
You came stalking with intent
Leaving my heart filled withgrief,
And then you stole myinnocence
As if you were a commonthief.

Standoff
Barricaded!!!
Trapped behind a wall so high
That I must struggle on mykeep
Around the clock. Her fortressmocks me
As my eyes refuse to sleep.
Sailing off into the sunset
Is a haunting distant dream
That lingers near, neverclearly
Focused as I plot and scheme
To free these bonds, escapethis prison,
Throw my jailer to the ground
And run to freedom somewheredistant
Where the fruits of truthabound.
If I only had the strength to
Face the showdown up ahead;
Bold to face theconsequences,
Fearing still the flags ofred
I sit quiet in my armor
As the stalemate lingersstill,
Testing every ounce of metal,
Every measure of my will.
So, the standoff mustcontinue.
Neither side will acquiesce.
In the end, just who willwin?
Who will come out secondbest?

Bustin' My Chops
Why should I be bustin' my chops?
Sweating for somebody else'scrops
Where payment is grosslyunder-fair,
Where dignity reaches theedge and drops
Like a hammer crashing a paneof glass
In a World obsessed byposition and class.
A struggle as old asprimordial man
Where strength and aggressionare played hand in hand
And survival had only twoclasses, it's said;
Divided between the quick andthe dead.
But these days it's moneythat seems to divide
Where the classes arestructured, how we decide
Who has worth, what hasmeaning, who gets the bone
With the meat neatly picked;who ends up alone.
Worshiping God on an altar ofgreen
As immortal worth becomesever so lean.
But truth is not fleeting.
Please, make yourself clear.
Our struggles are not alwaysas they appear.
The classes are self-made andself-imposed,
And nothing the freeheartedever need fear.
For happiness crosses allboundaries and classes.
Contentment survives andthrives with the masses.

Thinking Small
The tiniest creatures
Will often times cause the
Most irritation forHumankind.
The pesky barrage of the
Infinitesimal pest is a test
Of the tolerant mind.
Consider the flea, the louse
Or the tick,
Diminutive blood-suckingvermin
Who kick and claw
Until they get into yourskin,
Inviting legions of theirkith and kin
To come along for thebountiful feast,
And drink the blood of thegiant beast.
But the most destructivecannot be seen
With the naked eye, no matterhow keen.
They breed and grow withoutprocreation
'Til their legions are thesize of a nation,
And their needful ways arecause for alarm
As we shrink from theircoming
And quake from their harm.
Microscopic beast of evil,
Hidden armies you employ.
Singular is your agenda;
Humankind would you destroy.
