The Rodney Street Rapper
There's this dude from a religious family in Brooklyn. He thinks that Judaism isn't so cool so he went "off the derech" and he's now making ham-'n-cheese sandwiches at the treife deli (hold the mayo, Mac). But we all know that peddling pepperoni for Juliano's Deli ain't where it's at. At any rate, this dude - who I nicknamed the Rodney Street Rapper - has a soul that's crying out for help. The "rapper" wrote me a letter like you've never seen in your life. I gave him a long answer too. Read all about the Rodney Street Rapper in this week's eye-opening issue of Breslev Israel web magazine.

Parshat Vayera: Don't Look Back!
This week's 12-minute Torah portion is a must for Baalei Teshuva. Have a great Shabbat!

No Freeze Down There...
We have to be extra careful about guarding our eyes. One young man asked me today, "What, so few people guard their eyes. How can everybody fall into Gehennom (Purgatory - LB)? There's not enough room!"
I told him that there's plenty of room down there. How? There's no building freeze in Gehennom...
Hashem Fights our Battles
Our enemies have been created by our own misdeeds. When we return to Hashem and strengthen our emuna, the blemish of our misdeeds disappears. The result is that Hashem fights our battles for us, as He did so amazingly in the beginning of this week. It wasn't the might of anybody's right hand that mysteriously destroyd the Iranian Missile Launching Pads last week. Thank You once again, Hashem.

The Road to Lasting Peace
"Abujalad" and I have been corresponding for two years now. I met him through Tamar Yonah of Israel National Radio, when she forwarded a letter from him to me. Abujalad, an American-educated journalist, is now a senior editor of one of the most important Arab news agencies in the Gulf. He is a devout Sunni Moslem, by I have the feeling that he's an under-the-table Sufi. Here's his latest email:
Dear Rabbi Lazer, I was happy to receive your last email; I firmly believe that if the whole world connected with God in the way you call emuna – or what we call al-'imān bi-llahi – we could bring peace in a matter of hours. Your emuna and my al-'imān not only sound the same - they are the same thing. The sons of Ibrahim call out to the same God. I pray to Allah for your success, because your teachings are what the world needs so that we don't blow one another off the face of the earth. Let us use our energies to call out to God and to see the good in one another, for as you say, everything is good. Once again, many thanks for the copy of The Garden of Emuna that you sent me via our London office. I read the book in one sitting on a flight from London to Abu Dhabi. With esteem and friendship, yours faithfully, Abujalad
If we all made emuna a top priority in our lives, we'd not only have peace, but prosperity too. Emuna's not only the way, it's the only way.

Believing in Yourself
A baal tshuva – or any other person with aspirations – needs two primary spiritual resources: Belief in Hashem, and belief in oneself. With Hashem's loving grace, we speak and write extensively about the former, but from we see and hear all the time from lovely individuals who torment themselves mercilessly, let's talk about the latter.
Without belief in yourself, you can't be happy.
What is "belief in myself"? Here are the basic seven parameters...

Mama Rochel
Tonight and tomorrow is the 11th day of Cheshvan, the yahrtzeit of our matriarch Rachel whom we affectionately call, Mama Rochel. My weekly show on Israel National Radio later tonight (every Tuesday at 10 PM Israel time) will be devoted to her. Meanwhile, here's my dear friend Yaacov Shwekey singing "Mama Rochel", a moving song written by Abie Rottenberg. May her sacred memory guard over us.
