“Yuckology” Wins!

It is easy to be distressed at the state of this nation, including the rife compromise in the church. At the same time, God has His remnant—those who do stand on the truth of His Word and are willing to publicly stand for Him.

This blog today is to encourage you. A 12-year-old based his speech for a competition on our Answers magazine. Here is what his mother shared with us:

We are so happy to support AiG. The gospel just gushes out everywhere. We’re enjoying quite a few books we purchased while we were there [at the Creation Museum].

Another really neat experience we had is when my son, T.J., decided to give a speech on one of the articles in Answers magazine. The article was titled “Yuckology, getting close to gross”. It was all about God’s perfect design of earwax, mucous, eye crud and sweat. To our delight, he won at the county level, regional level and then went on to win the 12 year old speech category in the state . . . He shared in his speech about Answers in Genesis and gave them the credit for helping him find all his information on the subject.

Later, he saw someone that he didn’t know in a neighboring town who happened to be . . . [at] the speech contests. The lady came to him and told him that ever since she heard his speech, she wakes up in the morning, wipes the eye goop out of her eyes and thanks God for his design for keeping her eyes clean.

Just thought I’d share with you. We pray for this ministry and we hope they will continue to find favor with God as they proclaim the gospel message. We are sharing it, too.

Would you like to hear T.J.’s speech? Well, you can actually watch him give the same speech at another venue in this YouTube video.

Isn’t it so encouraging that there are young men like T.J. who are committed to God’s Word? How thrilling it is to know that such young people are reading Answers magazine. We praise the Lord for the way He has used AiG to reach generations of people with the truth of God’s Word beginning in Genesis.

We asked T.J.’s Mom for permission to share about T.J.’s speech with you, and she also sent this message to us:

We love to have people who aren’t saved to our house for dinner so that we can lovingly share God’s message of hope with them. Really, that’s what our family is about. We ARE happy that T.J. won, but we didn’t mention the win in our Christmas letter. We did mention God’s great design, though, and that he learned all of that from Answers magazine. We want people to see Christ and hear the gospel, that Christ came to save sinners, and we want to be equipped to be able to answer the tough questions. Like I said before, we are so very thankful to AiG and their ministry that proclaims the gospel loudly.

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to everyone that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.” (Romans 1:16).

– F.S.

The Lord encourages us with such testimonies. I hope you are encouraged, too.

Thanks for stopping by and thanks for praying,

Ken

Woe to You, Blind Guides

“Woe to you, blind guides!” (Matthew 23:16)

A retired geology professor, who is a theistic evolutionist and believes in a local flood (not global as the Bible clearly teaches), has been sending emails to AiG’s geologist, Dr. Andrew Snelling. He has been trying to convince Dr. Snelling to believe the compromise positions the evolutionist holds! But Dr. Andrew Snelling has such a high view of Scripture and is committed to God’s Word (as well as a practicing geologist for decades) that there is no way this professor can sway Andrew to reinterpret the infallible Word of God.

In this latest email to Dr. Snelling, I read this paragraph and just shook my head.  How blind to the truth he is—but I also believe it is a willing blindness!

Read this paragraph from the professor:

Catholic church each has a given set of beliefs which they say must be professed in order to be a member of that church.  In that respect, your set of beliefs is different from mine, so we go to different churches.  I have had numerous personal- or email-communications from former church members who have said that they have left the church and even become atheists because their church leaders required literal interpretations that the Earth was young (6,000 to 10,000 years old) and that Noah’s Flood was global in extent.  Many youth have told me that they are not going to join a church because of these interpretations and because of what they have learned in science courses about evolution and what NASA is doing in planetary and space explorations that make more logical sense.

Here are my observations:

He tries to make out that different interpretations of Genesis are just like other theological differences among churches.  However, what he fails to understand (or does not want to understand) is that while there are various views of doctrine  among churches,  for evangelical churches, most of these differences involve arguments using Scripture to interpret Scripture (e,g., views about eschatology, modes of baptism, and so on).  However, different interpretations of Genesis exist because people begin with the secular views of our age (e.g., evolution and millions of years), and then deliberately reinterpret Scripture to fit those ideas in—thus undermining the authority of the Word of God and making fallible man the authority over God’s infallible Word.
Pollster George Barna and others have done research to show that at least two thirds of young people will leave the church by college age. AiG published the book Already Gone in 2009 to detail the national research conducted by America’s Research Group to find out why those two thirds will leave (and have left) the evangelical church.  One of the major reasons found was the compromise that churches (and church leaders) have made by adding evolution and millions of years into Scripture. This compromise created doubt in the minds of the younger generations and led to them being put on a slippery slide of unbelief through the rest of Scripture.

This evolutionist professor actually states that young people left the church or won’t go to church because they learned about the “truth” of evolution but their church taught Genesis as truth. He blames the churches for teaching the creation account in Genesis—and is totally blind to the fact that what they have been taught by professors (just like this one) is the real reason they reject what these churches taught!

How blind can he be!

Sadly, this professor represents the majority of Christian academics and leaders in our churches today—no wonder we see the church in the USA heading in the direction of the church in England. And no wonder we see generations of churchgoers increasingly voting for such things as “gay” marriage,  abortion, etc.

This professor illustrates the sad compromise seen in our churches that is leading so many young people astray.  So sad.

We need to pray such professors will repent of their compromise and return to the full authority of the Word of God.

Thanks for stopping by and thanks for praying,

Ken

Teaching on Hell—Worse Than Child Sexual Abuse?

“I tell you, my friends, do not be afraid of those who kill the body and after that can do no more. But I will show you whom you should fear: Fear him who, after the killing of the body, has power to throw you into hell. Yes, I tell you, fear him.” (Luke 12:4–5)

Well, Richard Dawkins, an atheist and the author of The God Delusion, recently made a controversial statement during an interview that raising your child to believe in hell is worse than sexual abuse. Dawkins tells the interviewer, “It seems to me that telling children such that they really, really believe that people who sin are going to go to hell and roast forever … It seems to me to be intuitively entirely reasonable that that is a worse form of child abuse that will give more nightmares, that will give more genuine distress” than being sexually abused. (You can view the whole video clip on YouTube.)

Now, Dawkins is known for his extreme distaste for Christianity and the God of the Bible. But his outrageous statements in that interview show his open rebellion against God, and they stirred a lot of debate. Even some secularists have been upset with what he had to say.

Really, as I’ve said many times, Dawkins is trying to convince himself. He is, so to speak, putting his hands over his ears and yelling at God, “No, no, no! I refuse to believe.” And so, as Romans 1 tells us, he “suppresses the truth in unrighteousness.” While he is in his earthly body for such a short time (very short—compared to eternity), he wants to yell at God and essentially be his own god! But there will come a time when his earthly body will die (like everyone else), and then he will face his Creator and answer for his outright, willful rebellion. I pray for Richard Dawkins. Unless he repents, his future is one in hell for eternity, but that’s not God’s fault.

All humans (including Richard Dawkins) sinned against our Creator—we sinned in Adam. Our Creator then stepped into history to pay the penalty for sin and offers a free gift of salvation. When we sinned, we really told God we didn’t want Him. Now we live in a world where we have a little taste of what life is like without God.  And we don’t like it—we want to blame God. But it’s not God’s fault—it is our fault because we sinned in Adam. God wants to save us from what we did—He wants to save us from eternal separation from Him in hell.

In one article, a reporter in the UK, Melanie Philips, wrote about the anger that comes from Dawkins and other atheists in regards to Christianity, and the danger of their celebration of the decline of the culture. (You can read her full article at this link.) And while she says she is not a Christian, she clearly acknowledges, “Such people may not believe in God but they were not born with these moral values encoded in their DNA.” Morality, she says, was “given to the world by Judaism and Christianity.”

Philips also admits, “Without this particular religious underpinning, our society will lose the moral bonds that instill respect and care for other human beings. Without a belief in absolute truth, it will succumb to the dominance of lies.”

It’s interesting to hear an unbeliever pointing out that the erosion of biblical authority will result in the decline of the culture. It’s the same thing Answers in Genesis has been saying for many years. And you know, I wrote about the decline of the culture 25 years ago in my book The Lie: Evolution/Millions of Years—and we’re seeing that decline happen today, both in the UK and in the U.S.

Of course, atheists like Richard Dawkins celebrate whenever biblical authority is eroded in some way in the culture. Dawkins’s statements are the result of his rebellion against God.

And the fact is, morality and even the ability to reason come from the fact that human beings are made in the image of God, as described in the Bible.

Since they show that the requirements of the law are written on their hearts, their consciences also bearing witness” (Romans 2:15).

You see, there is no other valid starting point. In our Creation Museum, located in the greater Cincinnati area, we have an exhibit area in the Walk Through History section that examines how our starting points affect our thinking. I encourage you to read this article by some of our staff members describing the starting points area of the museum. I also urge you to read the newly updated and revised edition of The Lie: Evolution/Millions of Years, where I explore the erosion of biblical authority in Western culture and how evolution and millions of years are affecting the culture.

Thanks for stopping by and thanks for praying,

Ken

Girl Guides, God and Queen

Here is another example of how the West is changing by (in certain people’s minds) eliminating God from the culture.

In my homeland of Australia last year, the Girl Guides (in America the group is known as the “Girl Scouts”) eliminated God and the queen from their oath.

One news source stated the following:

With the deletions of God and queen, the Guides hope “to be seen as more inclusive and a modern, relevant organization and that many more women will like to join us,” said Belinda Allen, director of Girl Guides Australia.

In the old oath, formally known as the Guiding Promise, a girl swore to “do my duty to God, to serve the queen and my country.”

The new pledge:

“I promise that I will do my best; to be true to myself and develop my beliefs; to serve my community and Australia, and live by the Guide Law.”

You can read the entire article at this link.

Now, not surprisingly, the United Kingdom’s Girl Guides are considering following suit.

A UK news source reported the following:

It would be the first major reform for the Guides, which boasts more than half a million members, to be initiated under Julie Bentley, its new chief executive.

The former head of The Family Planning Association who took over in November ruffled feathers when she described the Guides as “the ultimate feminist organization”.

I think that bit of news says a lot about the direction the Girl Guides in the UK are heading.

The report states, “The mention of God could be replaced with a promise to ‘search for the spiritual value in my life’ or ‘serve the highest truth and love faithfully at all times’.”

Of course, who determines what “value” means if one is just an animal (according to evolution) and there is no God? And who determines what is “truth” if there is no absolute truth?

Another quote in the article is a reminder of an important biblical principle that can be applied here. The article states, “The review follows complaints from two families with no religious faith who wanted their children to become Guides but objected to the oath.”

First of all, God’s Word makes it plain there is no neutral position. “He who is not with Me is against Me, and he who does not gather with Me scatters abroad” (Matthew 12:30).

It seems to be just like what’s happening in the USA. When two families who supposedly have “no religious faith” (which means they have a very ardent religious faith—but an atheistic one) complain, then people will move to take God out of the picture and supposedly make it neutral! But in doing so, they are actually now making it against God and agreeing with those secularists committed to the atheist religion who wanted it changed. One of the challenging problems with this shift is that Christians by and large seem not to understand there is no neutral position! AiG has many articles on its website that discusses this topic.

You can read the entire UK news report at this link.

I’m sure the USA will be next to want to delete God from the Girl Guides/Girl Scouts—something we’ve already seen in many other areas of the American culture. Interesting that the report (if correct) states that membership is way down.

I have been told there are Christian groups in the USA for Christian girls to be a part of instead of the Girl Guides. I suspect this will happen with the Boy Scouts too if they head in the same direction.

Such shifts are all a part of the secularization of the West—and just another warning to Christians of what is happening around them. This should fire up Christians to deal with the real state of these nations like the USA and the UK—that they need to repent of their unbelief and return to a holy God.

But remember, with the continued secularization of the culture as more and more people shake their fists at God, and as the leadership in the West continues to exhibit an almost total disregard for God’s Word (e.g., “gay” marriage, abortion, etc.), there is a passage of Scripture that comes to mind:

Why do the nations rage, And the people plot a vain thing? The kings of the earth set themselves, And the rulers take counsel together, Against the Lord and against His Anointed, saying, “Let us break Their bonds in pieces And cast away Their cords from us.” He who sits in the heavens shall laugh; The Lord shall hold them in derision. … Now therefore, be wise, O kings; Be instructed, you judges of the earth. Serve the Lord with fear, And rejoice with trembling. Kiss the Son, lest He be angry, And you perish in the way, When His wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all those who put their trust in Him. (Psalms 2:1–12)

Astronomy Conference

On July 8–10, Concordia University in Wisconsin will host a creation conference with the theme, “The Heavens Declare: What Astronomy Can Tell Us About Biblical Creation.” Keynote speakers are Dr. Danny Faulkner and Dr. Don DeYoung, both members of the Creation Research Society (CRS).

Having retired from his university professorship, Dr.Faulkner also now serves on the staff of Answers in Genesis. The conference is being arranged by the cofounders of the Society of Creation, a 52-member biblical creation organization within the Concordia University System—ten universities operated by The Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod. While the Concordia University System is a Lutheran system of institutions, the conference is open to members of all denominations. Dr. Faulkner has informed me that both cofounders, Dr. Gary Locklair, on the computer science faculty at Concordia University (Wisconsin), and Dr. Joel Heck, on the theology faculty at Concordia University (Texas), are members of CRS.

Registration is $40.00 per person for the conference, and those who wish to attend can contact Dr. Heck via email at HeckYes@aol.com for more information.

“Disney Has Nothing” on the Creation Museum!

After reading this email, I though I would share this in its entirety.  What an encouragement!

Dear Creation Museum,

I wanted to take a chance upon returning from our first trip to the museum to thank you for a great trip. Our adventure started this summer when we attended Word of Life family camp and heard Ken Ham and Buddy Davis speak. I have always heard of the powerful message of AIG then we were able to experience the message first hand. While at the conference my wife and I were so moved by the presentations and messages that we purchased a charter membership to the Ark Encounter online . . .

I had hoped to take my family to Disney this winter during our break, but was moved to use the funds in a different way. Having not grown up in the church and never really hearing the church address the biblical account of creation, we were excited to hear someone speak with great conviction of the validity of scripture. If the rest of scripture is true and trustworthy, then the whole account must therefore be true and trustworthy.

The Museum did not disappoint. The whole facility screams the message of God’s word and how He has reached out to mankind. Wanting to visit the museum for many years, the time had come. God had provided the funding to buy into a great legacy which in turn provided the passes to be able to enjoy the musem over a four day period.

With an 8 yr old boy, it was nice to take it in in small chunks. The staff was incredibly helpful and very professional. My son has food allergies and the kitchen staff, along with the chef ,were extemly helpful in being able to find foods he could enjoy onsite.

We highly recommend all should take the time to see the museum and learn how powerful the message of the Bible can come to life. I pray in the face of much opposition, all involved in the ministry of AiG would take comfort that the ministry has a powerful message and is needed now more than ever. Thank you again for such a great time and for leaving a legacy that my whole family can benefit from. Disney has nothing on the enjoyment and truth you all provide. God Bless you all. Thanks.”

R & T.E., Connecticut

7 C’s in Haiti

AiG’s 7 C’s of History is being used around the world to teach the gospel based in real history—the Bible’s history. We were thrilled this week to receive this report from Haiti:

Our Mission Team from Western Arkansas went to Haiti last week and put on a three day VBS [Vacation Bible School] using the 7 C’s of History but in Haitian Creole. The children loved learning the truth about history according to the account found in God’s Word. The music leader translated the song into Creole upon our arrival. It was beautiful to hear the children signing it all over the town of Gressier, Haiti. Thank you Answers in Genesis for translating the material for the Haitian people! They loved it!

– C.R., Arkansas

Before you watch the video of the children singing AiG’s VBS 7 C’s song in Creole, you may want to listen to this song in English first. You can listen to the audio below:

Seven C’s of History

You can watch the kids in Haiti singing the 7 C’s in Creole on Facebook.

If you want more details about the 7 C’s, then you may be interested in the DVD presentation by Bodie Hodge on the 7 C’s.

It’s Not Harrrd

It’s always encouraging to receive testimonies from people who have been impacted by the ministry of Answers in Genesis and the Creation Museum. A couple from Pittsburgh decided to celebrate their 10-year anniversary at one of the Creation Museum’s Stargazer’s Nights. They sent us their testimony, and I thought you would be encouraged by it.

Hello Mr. Ham,

I grew up near Mt. St. Helens [in Washington State]. I lived through the eruptions, ash, evacuation drills and so much more [in the 1980s]. I met my wife, life long Pittsburgh resident, while commuting from the Pacific Northwest to Pittsburgh doing computer work. . . . Fast forward to a couple years ago when we went to see Dr. Tommy Mitchell [of AiG] do a weekend seminar at our old church. I had never even heard of the Creation Museum. We both had not given much thought to Genesis. We both [believed] that all of the millions of years and evolution all took place before Adam. Dr. Mitchell opened our eyes! Did he EVER! Everything simply makes sense within a creationism context. As Dr. Mitchell says “It’s not HARRRD!”

A couple months later we both felt an urging to attend the AiG Mega-Conference. We did and were immensely blessed. Once we heard that the Creation Museum had a “Deaf Day” approaching, we applied and were accepted to be volunteers. We had the chance to talk to many staff members as well as fellow volunteers, and were very impressed with the supportive nature of everyone involved. We were also impressed with the facility itself. The whole organization is so very top notch and professional. We have since volunteered twice additionally.

We have decided to spend our 10-year wedding anniversary… at the Creation Museum

We pray daily for all of them, AiG and you Mr. Ham. We thank you for being an organization that is not only top notch, but above reproach.

God bless.

D.I.

You know, it’s so great to hear when the ministry of the Creation Museum has impacted people’s lives. I hope you found this testimony as encouraging as I did.

By the way, this year’s national AiG Mega Conference is being held in Sevierville (near Gatlinburg and the Great Smoky Mountains), Tennessee. You can find more information at www.AnswersMega.org.

Thanks for stopping by and thanks for praying,

Ken

How Do You Answer Your Kids When They Ask About Dinosaurs and the Bible?

Dinosaurs for Kids book coverI wrote a book a few years ago called Dinosaurs for Kids to help young people understand the biblical history of dinosaurs. The book has become quite popular, selling over 40,000 copies to date. You can get the book in our online store.

Recently, my publisher Master Books has released an enhanced digital copy of this book available from iTunes. This enhanced edition offers many new features including: pop-outs, sound bites, 3D imagery, video, detail pages on over 40 dinosaurs (I even say the dinosaur names for you), and much more. It can be used as an advanced teaching tool and all-around fun for you and your family!

Kids will uncover the facts about dinosaur history from creation about 6,000 years ago to recent discoveries. We will go on a journey through time to explore these awesome wonders of God’s design. We will look at what I call the Seven F’s of dinosaur history: formed, fearless, fallen, flood, faded, found, and fiction. With just a few taps of your screen, you will discover special features throughout every page.

Check out this short video demonstration on YouTube.

Dino on iPad

Here is a photo showing the enchanted digital version on an iPad.

Make sure you have the answers when your children begin asking the tough questions about dinosaurs and evolution. Help them learn in a fun way while presenting the facts. The dinosaur issue can be a stumbling block for some people, many times because they just do not have the answers. Make sure your family is informed so they know they can always rely on God’s Word as a true history book of our world. By the way, kids will love this on the family iPad.

Get your copy now from iTunes—you won’t be disappointed!

This is all part of our theme this year to rescue our kids from this present evil age.

Thanks for stopping by and thanks for praying,

Ken

BioLogos and a Shocking Perversion of Scripture

As we start the new year and consider what the ministry of AiG can do (as God blesses) to reclaim biblical authority in America (and other nations), I think of the biblical compromise that still runs rampant in the church. Here is another example:

BioLogos (an organization set up to try to get the church to adopt evolution and millions of years) recently published what I would argue is one of their most disturbing articles yet. Thomas Burnett, the BioLogos Associate Editor, wrote an article titled, “Surveying George Murphy’s Theology of the Cross.” George Murphy is a theistic evolutionist, a former science professor, and a retired minister. He wrote a book titled The Cosmos in the Light of the Cross, from which Burnett draws some of his claims.

Now, Burnett is very quick to dismiss biblical creationists along with atheists, writing, “The trouble with both of these views is that they tend to invoke a completely abstract, philosophical god, not the living God of the Bible.” Wow! So if I take God at His word in Genesis chapters 1–11, that means I’m not looking to the God of the Bible? That clearly doesn’t make sense—but it fits with Burnett’s compromised view of Genesis.

Burnett’s thesis is that God works in unexpected ways—so why couldn’t God have used evolution? And while that is a tired argument, his analogy is really rather shocking. Burnett writes, “If God Himself is willing to die, particularly in such a gruesome way, then perhaps we should at least consider the possibility of God allowing the death of other creatures, too.”

You see, aside from a brief mention at the beginning of the article, Burnett seems to ignore the reality of sin. And yet, Genesis 3 tells us that it was because of Adam’s sin that death, disease, and suffering entered the world. What’s more, sin is why Christ came to die. Where is sin in Burnett’s worldview? He certainly doesn’t place the weight on it that Scripture does when it comes to the origin of death.

What Burnett has done here is drawn a false analogy to make his claim. The death of Christ is unrelated to the supposed millions of years of animal death and suffering that evolutionists propose. He didn’t die on the Cross to fix His own mistake (creating a world full of death and suffering). Such a thing would be absurd because God cannot make mistakes. No, Christ died to correct the problems we brought into this world at the Fall.

While “the whole creation groans” because of Adam’s sin (Romans 8:22), it’s not logical to equate the death of Christ, which rescues those who believe from the eternal consequences of their sin, with an evolutionary viewpoint that implies God called death, disease, and suffering “very good.” It is completely inconsistent to believe in theistic evolution and the Cross of Christ (though, of course, we at AiG affirm that a belief in a young earth is not necessary for salvation—but it is an important authority issue). Since Christ came to die for our sins, and man’s sin is the origin of death, you cannot use the Cross as an analogy for evolution where animals die and have diseases and eat each other before Adam’s sin. This comparison is not only illogical—it is shocking.

In his final attempt to make a case for evolution and millions of years, Burnett claims, “In all honesty, creation through evolution is not what we would expect from God, but Scripture is full of examples in which God acts in unexpected ways. After all, God’s choosing to undergo an agonizing death on a cross is not what we would expect from the all-powerful Creator of the universe, either. In both cases, new life comes about through pain, suffering, and death” (emphasis mine).

Burnett’s claim minimizes a crucial attribute of the Creator—His justice. While we may not have anticipated Christ’s death, burial, and Resurrection as God’s solution to man’s sin problem, it is absolutely “rational,” even though Burnett says otherwise. Since man sinned against the infinitely holy God, man’s action was infinitely evil, and the punishment must fit the crime—eternal separation from God. The Bible consistently shows that the wages of sin is death (Romans 6:23), and without the shedding of blood there is no remission of sin (Hebrews 9:22). The blood of bulls and goats could not take away sins (Hebrews 10:4); only the blood of a blameless man, who is the infinite God, could remove sin once and for all. This plan of God flawlessly fulfilled the requirements of His perfect justice.

You see, Burnett’s entire argument is based on the idea that God uses suffering to bring new life. But Burnett completely ignores Genesis chapters 1–3 in his article. He doesn’t deal with the Fall or with how death and suffering entered the world. He assumes that they’ve always been here, that nature has always been “red in tooth and claw.” He doesn’t deal with the Fall because he believes in evolution and rejects the Genesis history as true.

Really, to use Christ’s death on the Cross as justification for evolution is a perversion of the real message of the gospel. Romans 5:12–21 makes it clear—Adam’s sin brought death, suffering, and the Curse into the world, including animal suffering (Romans 8:22; Genesis 3). As descendants of Adam, all mankind has been in rebellion against the Creator—we’ve all sinned and have fallen short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23). And that’s why Christ died for our sins, was buried, and rose again the third day to provide the free gift of eternal life for all who believe on His name. This is the real message of the Cross, and it goes completely against the evolutionary concept of millions of years of death and suffering before Adam’s sin.

We cannot pick and choose which parts of Scripture to include or ignore, as Burnett seems to have done in this BioLogos article. Genesis 1–3 explains clearly how death, suffering, and disease came about—and evolution is not a part of that picture. These things make sense when taken in light of all of God’s Word—because we can trust the Bible, from the very first verse.

And here is something that is very sad. So many Christian academics applaud BioLogos and then teach such compromise to their students in Christian colleges and seminaries. Be so very careful where you send you kids to college. I urge you to look at the Christian colleges listed at www.creationcolleges.com.

Thanks for stopping by and thanks for praying,
