Writing productivity
Productivity is something I struggle with. Pretty much all my life, I’ve been a procrastinator. In high school, I did a lot of my homework assignments in homeroom the period before I had to turn them in. In college, I would get a month to read a book and put it off until the week before it had to be finished. I would write all my papers the night before they were due. When I was single, I wouldn’t do the dishes or the washuntil I ran out of clean plates and clothes.
And unfortunately, that’s...

Does writing speed affect the quality of your work?
I’ve seen a few people lately push the idea that the quality of writing is all based on the speed at which you write. Specifically that the longer it takes you to finish a book, the higher quality it is.
This is a silly bit of nonsense that I think came about through the traditional publishing schedule, where it would take a long time for a book to go from the writer’s hands to the bookstore. And it’s a myth that’s spread all throughout literary circles, that if you write fast, then somehow y...

Black Star Canyon: The Complete First Season by CC Wall
CC Wall is really resurrecting a style of writing that many unfortunately consider to be dead. With a clear influence of soap operas, TV dramas, and pulp fiction, Wall weaves together a tale of a creepy town that will keep you turning pages. The serial format is really the perfect way to tell a story like this and ebooks have made this possible. It’s a style that I wish more authors and readers would embrace as there’s so much potential in the serial format.
A lot’s been said about Wall’s tre...

Writers write, wannabes make excuses
If you want to be a writer, you have to write.Yes, it’s that simple. And that difficult.
Being a good writer takes more than just talent. The only thing talent really gives you is the determination to keep going no matter what. Michael Jordan wasn’t born an amazing basketball player, it was something he worked at. He arrived at practice early and he stayed late. Because he wanted itbad enough to put in the extra work.
I’ve known a lot of people who wanted to be writers. They would talk all ab...
