Guest Bloggers! Vampire Empire!

Three years ago I fell in love with a new series called Vampire Empire, a lush epic adventure with a deeply romantic heart. Written by the wonderful husband and wife team of Clay and Susan Griffith, the books are…well, utterly phenomenal.

The third novel in this trilogy is called THE KINGMAKERS, and I can’t recommend it highly enough. It is such a good book. To promote it, Clay and Susan have been on blog tour, and today they join us to discuss their “scariest experiences.”

There’s a huge givea...

Create dangerously.

From this Salon article on the wonderful, phenomenal, Edwidge Danticat:

Art, then, becomes a way of reclaiming what power will take, in the face of “both external and internal destruction.” She compares the work of immigrant artists to the ancient Egyptians, with their “pyramid and coffin texts, tomb paintings, and hieroglyphic makers,” and especially their tombs, which were arranged to try to make more bearable the life that follows this one. She writes: “We are still trying to create as dang...

NYCC + AXM News!

I’m not spending the whole weekend at NYCC — just today and Sunday. Tomorrow I desperately need to write: Hunter Kiss or bust!

Today was wild, though. I haven’t seen crowds like this in years, and that was only in San Diego. New York Comic Con, packed to the gills? That’s something none of us expected, but it was wonderful and crazy. Also wonderful: my readers. I love you guys so much. All of you, so generous and kind, and impossibly sweet. Thank you for reading these books. I appreciate it mo...

Be Alive.

I was telling a friend about my web designer, Taughnee: great designer, wonderful friend, and living in love — in Paris. I admire her a lot, and this has been an incredible year for her.

Last October she wrote a great post: The Year of Becoming Unstuck

“Whether I work from a laptop in a café in Paris or from my home office, whether I could lose 30 pounds or whether I’m a size 6 … I am going toshow up to life anyway. And while I’m here, I might as well do the best I can, for no other reason than...

At 36,000 feet…

That number is right where I’m at, sitting on a Delta flight that also offers access to wireless. Love it. Spent the last couple days hopping around from one city to another, and I won’t be slowing down any time soon. I love that, too. It’s pushing me to be a better writer, and by that, I mean — I don’t have time to over think what I’m putting down on the page. I’m grabbing what moments I can and then just going full-out stream-of-consciousness. Pushing forward instead of constantly retrenchi...

This morning’s walk…

Gorgeous morning, with a bite of autumn. Surrounded by cats, listening to some music, and digging in for a day of writing. I hit the road again tomorrow, just for a couple of days. Which means, today, work must be done.

A soldier’s birthday…

My friend, Kelley, sent me this note about a soldier’s upcoming birthday. It would be great if he could get some mail, even just a card. Here’s the email (and his address):

I have a soldier in AF right now whose birthday is September 26th….looking to get him some mail for his big day! Just asking for cards if you want to do more by all means have at it, but honestly a card or a letter is perfect.
