See me at Purdue University!

That would be next week on February 6th from 6-8 PM. More information here. I’ll be speaking on “Diversity in Comics”, exploring race, gender, ethnicity, and sexual orientation in comic books. More or less what the poster below says. Given that my parents met at Purdue, this is exciting for me that I’ve been invited there to sit on a panel.

Read a great article the other day called “The Science of Love: How Positivity Resonance Shapes the Way We Connect” and it articulates in a beautiful way h...

Adventures in Knitting!

Yes, I know, few updates lately on the blog. The ease of twitter is just a little too attractive for someone on deadline!

So, in 2010 I went to Iceland (here’s a whole series of posts, with photos) and as part of my amazing vacation, I took a “knitting tour” run by the brilliant, beautiful, Ragnheidur Eiriksdottir. I had the most wonderful time — and in the last two years, Ragga’s endeavors have just exploded and now she’s hot on the tour circuit, giving lectures all over the world on the art...

Bits, pieces…

Been here and there, spending a lot of time at the library writing the next Hunter Kiss book. Different strategies, for different places and stories. In China, I used to walk or take a cab to the local Starbucks to write in the mornings — in Indiana, all I had to do was curl up on the couch. Here in Boston, I thought I could write from home — but no, something about going out, getting a warm drink, sitting down at a table in the library — that’s what turns on my mind. I wish I’d figured that...

Briefly…

Kale, cucumbers, zucchini, cilantro, limes, lemons, one jalapeno, and ginger root are actually all quite delicious when juiced together. No matter what it looks like. And, lest you forget the health benefits of green living, one drink of this will add ten years and a twinkle in your eye.

Also, it’s snowing tonight, like magic.

Christmas was lovely, and then the next day we got a flat tire in New Jersey. But that wasn’t so bad. We were lucky enough to reach a car dealership, and I spent the next...

Merry Christmas & Happy Holidays!

Love came down at Christmas,

Love all lovely, Love Divine;

Love was born at Christmas;

Star and angels gave the sign.

Seen.

About an hour ago, on the subway here in New York. Love it.

The Welcome Home Party

I got home from China last night, and guess who was at the door? Now I’m covered in fur and cat drool — and I really can’t complain.

Bags packed, on my way…

I won’t bother posting a picture of my suitcase — that’s too sad! I had a wonderful two weeks in China, though it hardly feels like I was here that long. Time flies, time flies, time flies.

I forgot to post this picture from the other day. I encountered a wonderful woman selling embroidery at the Dirt Market. We bargained and chatted, and then bargained and chatted some more — and even though, ultimately, we couldn’t agree on a price, it was one of my most pleasant experiences ever in that pla...

People watching…

Most of these photographs were taken over a 40 minute period this afternoon.

Dirt Market

It was a brutally cold day. Last night we had freezing rain, a bit of snow, and temperatures that dropped low. I must admit, spending the last two winters in Boston has made me a bit weak. You’d think the Northeast would be terribly cold, right? Instead, last year was mild — so mild it barely snowed — and this year is shaping up to be the same. Trust me, I don’t mind.

But it did leave my body and mind a bit unprepared for a real bone-deep, snot-freezing winter. Like today. In fact, it was so c...
