Interviews, guest posts…
I’ve been hopping around the internet (due to the kindness of many blogs that have welcomed me) to discuss the latest Hunter Kiss novel, Labyrinth of Stars. Here’s the breakdown of interviews and giveaways, so far:

A wolf and a warrior…
Labyrinth of Stars has been out for a couple days (oh, hey, and Sympathy for the Bones, as well), and the nerves have passed — sort of. At any rate, I’m busy revising my next book, which is the way it always goes: the work continues, no matter what else is going on.
Here’s a new interview with me and a giveaway at Urban Fantasy Investigations — plus a nice review of the novel at All Things Urban Fantasy. What the reviewer says is true: it’s best to have read previous books in the series befor...

Labyrinth of Stars! Out now!
Yes, it’s THAT day. After a long wait, the fifth Hunter Kiss novel is out in the world. Thank you, everyone, who has supported the series. My appreciation is endless.
You can read a brief interview with me at Book Obsession, and check out the Labyrinth of Stars giveaway at Paranormal Bites. Also, here’s an excerpt from a Romantic Times interview about Maxine and her journey.
Tokyo Literary Festival
I’m in Japan for the next month. It’s for research, writing, unwinding — a little bit of everything. I’m also participating in the Tokyo Lit Festival, which kicks off this Friday. My event is on Sunday, March 2nd, for those of you in the area who want to stop by. There’s no official signing (I don’t think), but catch me afterward if you want your books signed.

Labyrinth of Stars…TOMORROW!
My nineteenth novel comes out tomorrow. That’s an unreal number to me, so let’s put it another way: my latest is hitting shelves, and it’s the fifth in the Hunter Kiss series. Maxine and her demon boys have been inhabiting my imagination for maybe seven years — and each time I sit down to continue their adventures it’s an intense process, surprisingly emotional. Labyrinth of Stars especially, for a variety of reasons.
To my readers, I apologize for the long wait between novels. I needed the ti...

VONA
At every panel I’ve been on — from Romance Writers of America to San Diego Comic Con — there are always questions about writing: what it is we do and how we do it. I’m used to answering them — in fact, I enjoy it. But it’s never been a formal thing.
Last summer I was invited to teach a week-long workshop on Popular Fiction at the Stonecoast MFA program. Since then I’ve also led a couple masterclasses in fiction. I was so nervous the first time — nervous every time, really. But I enjoyed the pr...

Happy Valentine’s Day!
And just in time, our panel conversation with Geeks Guide to the Galaxy has gone live — it’s been edited down, but you’ll get the gist of what we talked about: specifically, dating as a geek.
My claim? Doesn’t matter if you’re a geek or a non-geek, dating is HARD. And “geeks” are not just one thing. We’re infinitely diverse. Geeks don’t just have one reaction, one personality, one experience. That’s what makes us who we are—our particularity.
And it’s not just about straight male geeks meeting...

Lesson #1: Read, please.
From an interview with Robert Lipsyte at Advice to Writers:
What’s your advice to new writers?
One – READ. Sounds obvious but it’s amazing to me how many new writers don’t read enough, and don’t read as writers, looking for examples of how other writers handled transitions, character descriptions, etc. the same way young athletes watch pros at work.
I’m often asked for writing advice, and this is the same answer I always give. No class, no MFA, can take the place of reading. I don’t just mean ca...

What doesn’t kill you…
Honestly, it’s like someone read the Hunter Kiss series and decided to make a greeting card out of it. Which this is, believe it or not. I found it last summer when we went to Martha’s Vineyard, pawing around the paper section of a gift shop (because I love cards). I stumbled upon this gem, laughed out loud, and showed it to my guy. He was like, “Yup.”
The company responsible is Ghost Academy. Check them out — they’re great. They even have a page that gives detailed instructions on how to make...

This, too — and that, as well.
I don’t know where this image comes from — my apologies, as it was forwarded by a friend. Mostly, for the cat. But the sentiment is something my grandmother always says, and it’s true: whatever you’re going through, good or bad, it won’t last forever. And not only for the obvious reasons (like death). Life has its own movement, its own evolution. We’re compelled to change, whether we want to or not.
I’ve told this story before, but here’s the two-second recap: a couple years ago I wanted to re...
