CHAPTER ONE
Fallon
It's been a long time since I smelled the salty aroma of a pier. As the ferry pulled up to its slip, I inhaled deeply the combination of drenched wood, fog, seaweed, wet rope, and something else that I couldn't figure out. It didn't matter, of course; I'd never seen this pier before and didn't know what existed beyond it.
"Welcome to Black Cat Rock," my mother said as she came to lean beside me on the railing. "What do you think so far?"
I frowned. "I can't really see anything. Is it always this foggy?"
She shook her head. "The captain said that there was a storm last night and this fog is what's left. Once we get away from the pier, you should be able to see everything. Anyway, I came to get you. Dad's already in the truck and he wants to leave as soon as the ramp drops."
I looked at the gray haze that covered everything and frowned again. How could anyone see well enough to drive in this? All I could make out were shadows that could have been anything. Even now, my imagination wanted to believe that the quickly moving dark spot in the gray mist wasn't a car, but an animal stalking its prey.

Book Trailer Contest
August is a very important month for me. Not only is it the month I celebrate my anniversary to the mister, but it's also the month that I was born. Now, granted I don't make a big to-do about my birthday because it's never really been a a day I paid much attention to, I do have to say that this year, I wanted to do something different.
So, in celebration of my third year of celebrating my 29th birthday, I'm holding a contest.
"What kind of contest?", you say.
Why, the kind of contest where you, the reader, create a book trailer for any of my books in order to win fantastic prizes.
"But what kind of prizes?", you ask.
Well, I'll get to that in a minute. First we've got to go over some of the rules.

A musical angel has grown her wings...
Say what you will of her life. Say what you will of her looks. Say what you will of her music. Her voice was a gift that transcended it all and she will be missed.
The world of a celebrity isn't easy, despite what many of us believe. There are pressures coming from all angles in life, personal, familial, career, psychological...she dealt with them the way so many people, both famous and not, do. She turned to drugs and then, as it is wont to do, the drugs turned on her.
Her songs were often ironic, haunting, beautiful, grating, and when she fell, she fell hard and she did so unapologetically. That might have been pride, shame, or drugs, or a combination of all three, but she had the tenacity to shrug off the criticism and do it again.
I admit to being angry when I read the news this morning, because I had hoped and prayed that she'd overcome this stage in her life, but no matter how I feel, this is about Amy and I hope she's found the peace and acceptance she'd been searching for.
Rest in peace, Amy. May the demons that haunted you in this world leave you to shine on in your new one.

Daily Kawaii 5-20-2011
If you grew up in the 80s, you know where this comes from. David Bowie as Jareth, the Goblin King. He's beautiful, he's alluring, he's...married to a supermodel and absolutely unattainable. *sigh*

I Write, Therefore I Am (2011)
Over a year ago, I took a leap of faith and put something I had worked long and hard on out into the public sphere. For a little while, I forgot about it, and continued to plug away at my keyboard, writing, plotting, creating, and all around daydreaming in text. I pretty much figured that no one would ever take a gamble on my silly story about angels and outcasts.

Daily Kawaii 5-19-2011
I apologize for things not coming up when they're supposed to. It's been a rather busy couple of months for me and my family and I'm starting to get back into the swing of things with writing and blogging.
So let's get back to this part of the show, shall we? The daily kawaii. Things that I find quite cute.
PS22 Friday 5-20-2011
If you grew up in the 80s (gasp...you're old! I keed!!) then you know this song and how incredible and awesome and fantastic Roxette was.
Now, to hear these kids do it, it takes me back to those days when I screeched this at the top of my lungs, believing that at any moment, some random music producer would walk past my window (in between two snug apartment buildings, mind you) and sign me up as the next Paula Abdul.
A kid can dream, but these kids are living it.
Update: Character Contest Winner!
It's been a very exciting couple of weeks! You all have entered this contest with fantastic names that would have suited this character well, but the votes as this contest stands have spoken, and the winner is Alisha with the name "Liam". Liam Mace will be a familiar name to you when he makes his debut, but he will be a part of all of you.
Congratulations Alisha!
And for everyone else, don't think that you haven't won.
See, it pays to enter contests, and because each of you have done so, you'll each receive a copy of this upcoming novel, as well as be mentioned in the acknowledgments. Congratulations to ALL of you!!
Aloha my fabulous readers. I've got a question...
How would you like to name a major character in one of my novels?
What if I told you that along with that, you'd also get a $50 gift card to Amazon and FIVE paperback copies of your own from EACH book in the series along with an advance copy before anyone else gets a chance to read it?
Well, if you're excited, guess what? It's time!!
I'm looking for a name for a male protagonist. He's moody, he's distrustful, but he's also very protective of his family, especially his sister Audrey. His last name is Mace. He has a job as a fisherman. His hair is dark and long, just above touching his shoulders. His eyes are hazel, and his brows thick. He has a scar running from the left corner of his mouth past his cheek that looks like he got caught on one of his fishing hooks. The scar makes it difficult for him to smile without looking like he's scowling. He has a thing for classic cars, and loves racing them. His mother is gone but not dead, and he resents most females as a result. He's almost eighteen, has a secret passion for reading and painting, and would give anything to leave his home but fears he'll never be able to.
Take some time to digest this description and, when you're ready, comment below with a name. Every comment has a thumbs up or down symbol next to it. Use those to vote. Tell your friends, tell your family. Beside each comment is a # symbol. Right click and select copy link address. Post on your facebook, twitter, myspace, or other social networking site and tell people to vote. You may enter as many names as you want as long as they are not repeats of previous names. The name with the most votes wins!
Contest will end May 31st at 11:59 HST.
Only one (1) winner be selected. Prizes are exact. Upon entry, you agree to renounce any claim to royalties, if any, from the sale of the book and any subsequent sequels and deals as a result and will not seek any monetary compensation other than the prizes offered. If you are under the age of 18, you must receive your parents consent otherwise your entry will be removed. {jcomments on}
