I Could Use A Love Song ~ @AuthorKristina Knight

I love love songs. Give me a slow ballad or a happy little ditty and I'm dancing and singing and the world around me seems a little brighter. I'm not looking for the most recent, some of my favorite love songs were popular before I was born.

Like Elvis' Can't Help Falling In Love. My love for this song has everything to do with the movie - the moment with Elvis' character in "Blue Hawaii" sings this song to his grandmother? It gets me every time. It probably also helps that one of my favorite...

What I Wish I'd Known

I wrote this a couple of years ago for another blog. Since it's a busy week and I still feel the same way about both the blog and the husband, I hope you don't mind a rerun. Have a great week. - Liz Happy!I have thought and thought about this post. And I still don’t have an answer to the implied question in the title. And maybe that’s what I wish I’d known. How often I would spend hours upon non-productive hours trying to decide on a word. Not a chapter or a scene or a protagonist’s name, but a...

The Winter Blahs

Dirty, ugly snow in front of my house. It looks sort of how I feel.March is the cruelest month. Or maybe it’s April, but frankly, on the Canadian prairies both months can suck. But we’re talking March right now. I’ll rant about April later.

It’s been a bad week and a bad month. Here in Manitoba we just came through a brutal late winter blizzard. Awful. (Check out this website to get an idea how awful. Luckily where I live the storm wasn't near this bad; at least we didn't get the crazy snow. M...

Adding it on for Lent

Happy Friday! Last week, Jana posted about Lent and listed some wonderful ideas even those who don’t normally observe the season could incorporate. Personally, I have never observed Lent, just like I don’t make New Year’s Resolutions. I’m a creature-comfort kind of gal, and the thought of taking any of that away or adding unnecessary stress to my life doesn’t interest me. When my step-daughter was a six-year-old upstanding Catholic schoolgirl, she gave up chocolate for Lent until she rea...

Indulge Me!

by Margie Senechal

Piggybacking Kristi's post yesterday, I'm going to talk about pampering yourself.

Ideally, I'd love to go to a beach resort and get a massage as the waves crash just outside the window. So not going to happen, mostly because PNW beaches aren't conducive to such a scene. But, a girl can dream.

Luckily there are smaller, easier obtainable indulgences to be had. And I am enjoying one right now.

*A caramel latte served in a latte mug. No, it's not my first coffee of the day,...

#WriterWednesday: Taking a Little Self-Care ~ @AuthorKristina Knight

A writer friend posted something on social media over the weekend that made me sad. She'd had a terrible review posted of her latest book (a review I found to be quite unfair and not just because she's my friend, but because this particular review offered nothing beyond the reviewers hatred for the subject matter..and put that hatred onto the author). I think we can all identify with the feeling of helplessness that comes with bad reviews, whether they come with constructive criticism or just...

Getting Past the Gloomy

I've been away from social media--no Facebook and no Twitter--for a week now. You'll recall I gave up social media for Lent. I knew this wouldn't be a piece o' cake. I'm pretty attached to Facebook and sorta connected to Twitter.

Frankly, it hasn't been very easy. I miss the camaraderie of Facebook, and I can't help wondering if anyone at all is missing me being there. Not that it matters. I'm gone for 40 days. So what am I learning from this hiatus? First of all, that I am much more attached...

Stalking--and finding--happy

I'm getting ready to post this, and I will admit the subject matter--state of mind--is something I talk about too often. I will also admit talking about it helps me maintain emotional equilibrium. I'm sorry if I'm making anyone roll their eyes, sigh, or mutter "Get over it." For everyone else, thanks for coming by. Tell me about your day!

We are in my season of discontent. Even when bad things don't happen or life doesn't throw unexpected curves, I don't like this time of year. I can find&nbsp...

Giving it up for Lent

Earlier this week, Nan talked about giving up social media for Lent. That got me thinking. Traditionally, Lent has been a time to give up, for forty days, something that probably isn’t so good for you, or something that’s been weighing you down. According to the website Vox: “Lent…is more about recognizing and embracing one’s mortality, and acknowledging the sinfulness that marks earthly life. Since Christians believe that Jesus’s resurrection foreshadows the resurrection and renewal of the w...
