Preen and Prance and Promise by Bruce C. Embrey and Liz Flaherty

I can't bear it, can you? Children dying, no matter how or when or where it happens, is one of those things I'll never get used to. One of those things I never want to get used to, although it feels these days as if those children who die by guns held by madmen are simply collateral damage so that the politically conservative interpretation of the Second Amendment can be held in the same reverence as the Bible and controlling women's bodies. And we can continue to do nothing. Nothing.
Am I angry...

Everywhere I go, there I am... by Navi Vernon

Hi, my name is Navi, and I am a quote hoarder. There. I feel better already.

I love words, especially when they are strung together in a way that deepens understanding, makes me laugh, or motivates a better me. I don’t remember when my obsession with quote gathering began but I’m certain it won’t end until I do.

Documenter Me would feel better if every quote included a full citation. Among those meticulously cited are some underwhelming sources. "Without scary we don't get to be brave"is still...

Further Possibilities - by Liz Flaherty

We went to a graduation last night to watch the sixth of our Magnificent Seven grandkids end his high school career. It was a beautiful might for a commencement and the football field bleachers were filled with well-wishers. For the first time in a while, I felt a sliver of sharp regret for the way things used to be. I thought, but thankfully didn't say, that when I was their age, we knew how to throw a graduation.
I missed the invocation, the benediction, the blanket prayer to keep the graduate...

Weakness: Your Greatest Strength by Laura Drake

Having yet another fangirl moment...give me a minute... Laura Drake is yet another one of my favorite writers. I read the following essay on her blog the other day and begged asked if I could use it on the Window. I love what she says here...the power it gives us if we just take it. So, here you go.

I saw this meme on social media today, and it reminded me of a huge discovery I made that changed how I saw the world.

See, I’ve been an outlier all my life. As a kid, I was a dreamer. My mother told m...

Are We There Yet? by Curtiss Ann Matlock

Curtiss Ann Matlock is one of my favorite writers of all time. I read the following essay on her blog and asked her if I could borrow it for Wednesday at the Window. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. You can find Curtiss Ann here. I recommend her backlist, and am so looking forward to what she's working on now.

When I was a child, my father was in the Coast Guard. His career required change of duty stations and gave our family the opportunity to cross the nation a number of times. This was ...

I Love You More by Liz Flaherty

This is from two years ago. My apologies for using it again so soon, but it sort of reflected how I feel today. It was our 49th anniversary then--next Sunday will be our 51st. We're celebrating today, early, with friends and family. Being grateful and laughing and sniping because he doesn't listen (to me) and I don't remember what he said 10 minutes ago but can quote him a remark he made 50 years ago that he shouldn't have. But I love him more now than I did 51 years ago. And more than I did yes...

I have hemo-what? by Charley Sutton

I’ve had trouble sleeping for most of my adult life. I would sleep for an hour and be awake for two. Many times the alarm went off before I ever closed my eyes. I was constantly exhausted. Once or twice a week, I would crash for eight to ten hours straight.

In the spring of 2011, I was driving down Broadway and began to see double. I pulled over into the wrong drive of the two I saw and nearly hit a pole. I began to lose my strength and sense of balance soon after.

I fell while walkin...
