Game Review: Odin Sphere

I enjoyed doing the review on the video so much last time, here I go again!

Just a couple notes, I'm screening all comments because of a spammer last time. As long as your comment is related to me, my gaming post or anything in my journal, I'll unscreen it. Enjoy!

Odin Sphere
Console played on: PS2
Consoles available on: PS2
Rating: T
Play time: 80+ hrs.
Genre: Side Scroller

First off, this game is old school hard. Like bang your head on concrete 'til bloody hard. Beyond that, this game is fun and addictive. Like bite my husband when he tries to take my controller away so he can play another game.

Basically, the premise of this game is a war between nations as a demon lord Odin battles for supremacy. You play as several characters, leveling them up to their final battle to save the world. Some battle to save their true love or save their kingdom.

While I never got to finish this game, I lost my save in the big bad PS3 crash of 2009, I'm going to play the game all the way through again. I enjoyed it that much. The only complaint I had was the screen slowing during gameplay due to the processor being unable to process all that is going on in the game, which happens to everyone from what I've heard. Just be patient with it and let it unlock. Honestly, it gave me time to plan and it gave me an unfair advantage.

I highly recommend this game to gamers of all ages. Just be warned, the fairy queen is, as my husband said so perfectly, "badly in need of a pair of pants" and so on. Still, a gorgeous game all the way around and I love it! Enjoy!

New Video Game Review post, coming soon!

Hi all in LJ land! I've decided to blog about something I know pretty well and that's video games! My husband and I play them on a regular basis and for some of your gamers out there, I do some shout-outs in my books about them.

I'm also available for questions about video games, if you want to include them in your story or if you'd like advisement if it's suitable for children.

I have a long list of games to review that we've played already but I'll start off with one my husband just finished:

Mass Effect 2
Console played on: PS3
Consoles available on: XBOX 360, PC
Rating: M
Play time: 80+
Genre: RPG/Shooter

First off, I want to say this game's story line is gripping. I've seen some story lines where I get lost very easily since I tend to bounce around a lot between work and writing. On this one, there were a lot of sub plots (missions) that were quick and I could get a quick update on what was going on in the story.

Another great option (especially since I'm definitely an equal opportunity gamer) is you can play as a girl. In the game, you are named Shepard (your last name) so the fact you are female doesn't come into play except for dating options.

Oddly enough, one of the most enjoyable and challenging parts of the game was the mining part. You have to travel to planets in the Milky Way and mine them. On each planet, you can pull mineral deposits off in four categories that are needed supplies. Warning to people who are OCD, this is ADDICTING! :D

A couple of the sub-plots are racy in their undertones. You seduce a female, only to draw her back to her apartment for your team to kill. On top of it, the person you kill is your teammate's daughter. So this game's M rating is definitely deserved.

All in all, this game was enjoyable if you like a shooter/action game with elements of a RPG. You don't have to play the first Mass Effect game, which is nice. This one has a mini movie at the beginning to bring you up to speed on the plot line. With well fleshed out characters, we are definitely looking forward to playing Mass Effect 3 when it comes out.

Questions? Please leave a comment :)

Blurb:

Jason Stockton and Blaze Shinozuka are looking forward to escaping their hectic rock and roll lifestyle for a relaxing holiday. Their plans seem promising, and the passion between them burns hotter than ever as they keep each other warm despite the icy temperatures. Then a surprise Stockton family get-together threatens to reveal what Jason would rather keep hidden, and an impromptu trip to Blaze's home in Hawaii makes the cultural, financial, and social differences between them more obvious than ever. Thanks to two chaotic family holidays and a lot of painful secrets, Christmas could end up being more than their budding relationship can endure.

Excerpt:

BLAZE SHINOZUKA snuggled deeper into the covers, his body aching from the heavy, restorative sleep he never got while he was on the road. A sliver of light streamed into the room through the curtains he was sure he had closed tightly last night. It had been cold outside, coming home from the wrap party, but underneath the sheet and thick down comforter, he was comfortably snuggled against a hard, warm body. He sighed happily before jerking awake.

He wasn't used to waking up next to his boyfriend. He normally slept by himself in his bunk, on the bus he shared with the other members of Cassie's touring band. Instead, this was a treat, lying next to the man he'd fallen in love with during practice.

Blaze stared at Jason's dark curls and thought about the whirlwind that had been the past six months, since he'd started on Cassie's tour as the lead guitarist. His audition had been with a man well-known in the music industry, Jason Stockton, who was one of the hottest managers in the business. Their attraction was instant, and Blaze had been surprised when his advances were returned. Blaze turned over in bed, and in the low light coming through the curtains, he took in the beautiful sight of the man in front of him.

A year ago, if he had been told he would be lying in bed with his boyfriend, he would have thought the person was crazy. He had never been in a solid relationship, with a girl or a guy. But here he was next to this gorgeous man, drinking in his perfect features. His fingers itched to run through the curls, tangle himself in the other man and never let go.

More than just Jason's gorgeous body, Blaze had fallen for the person behind the façade Jason presented to everyone. When he was around the people they both worked with, Jason was professional, always knew the answer to everything, but when he got around Blaze, he was passionate, loving, and adorably dorky.

For his whole life, Blaze had been standoffish toward everyone. Jason had been the one to break down his barriers, pushing his way past Blaze's defenses. He had been scared at first, but he let Jason in, where no others had been, inside his closely guarded heart.
Blaze felt his cheeks heat as memories of the pleasures Jason had introduced him to flowed through his mind. They had tried so many things, all of them wondrously new to Blaze, since he had been a virgin back when they met. It had only taken a couple of weeks before Blaze found himself falling for Jason. It hadn't been a stretch to accept the invitation when Jason asked him to move in before he started on Cassie's European tour.

Soon they would be heading back to LA for three weeks of rest and relaxation over the holidays, and hopefully they would spend all their time together before he headed off on tour again. It was a dream come true, playing the guitar every night and being paid well to do it. He also had wished to fall in love, but now both dreams were reality, and he felt torn.

Musing about his situation, he watched as Jason's dark eyelashes fluttered, opening to reveal eyes with irises inky black in the darkness. Blaze knew, in the light of day, Jason had dark brown eyes framed by eyelashes most women would kill for. His facial features could only be described as perfect, movie-star good looks along with a dazzling smile, and for some reason, Blaze found himself on the receiving end of them a lot.

With a body to die for, Jason was a complete package, and one Blaze had fallen hopelessly head over heels in love with.

"Whatcha thinkin' about?" Jason murmured.

The husky voice sent blood running straight to his cock, which throbbed. It was bad enough he had woken up with morning wood, but now, looking into Jason's big brown eyes …. "I'm thinking about you," Blaze whispered back.

Jason chuckled. "Yeah? I was dreaming about you coming home with me."

Blaze's heart skipped a beat when he wrapped his arm around Jason's waist, pulling their bodies close. Their legs tangled together, feet rubbing against each other as they kept warm under the covers. "Sounds wonderful," he whispered languorously.

Sometime last night after he had fallen into bed, his clothes had managed to come off and, as tired as he had been, he barely remembered Jason helping him. He was nearly naked, except for the cotton briefs his cock strained against.

"You didn't take a shower last night," Jason said, kissing along Blaze's stubbly chin. "Wanna take one?"

Blaze sighed as Jason's hand rubbed his back, the comforting warmth spreading through him, lulling him back to sleep. Jason's comment sank in, and Blaze frowned. "Are you saying I stink?" he said, laughter bubbling beneath the surface. "Thanks a lot."

"No, babe. I'm saying we both need a shower, and I want you in there with me."

The words caused a shiver of desire to run through Blaze, and as Jason pulled back the sheets, desire turned to hypothermia. Even with the heater on full blast, the room was cold and held a chill that couldn't be fully removed from the air. The only thing keeping him going was the promise of hot water.

For a second, Blaze wondered if it was worth getting out of bed. The freezing temperature had his balls crawling into his body, and it made him turn to grab for the comforter and hop back into bed. Jason turned him back around, giving him a light shove toward the bathroom, and Blaze nodded mutely as they both made their way to the shower.

BLAZE stepped out of the steamy bathroom, wrapping a towel around his waist. He heard Jason's softly spoken words as he walked over to the bed. There was something to be said about having a grand suite of rooms, but then there was also something nice about having a cozy mini-suite, like the one they had been in for the past few days. Blaze took in Jason's lean frame, wrapped in a hotel robe as he sat at the hotel desk, his cell phone to his ear.

"Really?" Jason said. Blaze sat down on the edge of the bed and Jason turned. He shot his gorgeous smile Blaze's way, the one that always made Blaze's stomach flip-flop, and he said, "I feel bad now."

Blaze stood up, walking over to the tiny closet to don one of the courtesy hotel robes as Jason said, "I can't believe I didn't call you on my birthday." Blaze heard the sadness in Jason's voice and frowned. "I would have found out you were going out West then. Well, I guess we'll see you in LA?"

Jason hung up the phone after saying good-bye, and Blaze asked, "Who was that?"

"My grandma. She asked if she could come and stay with us in LA for a couple days. I was going to take you to meet her tomorrow since she lives here in New York, but my mom asked her to come visit all of us this year in LA."

Blaze sat back down while rubbing his hair dry. "That's cool. How long is she staying for?"

"A week or so, but she's leaving on Christmas day with my mom and dad and flying out to Hawaii for New Year's Eve. I told her I'd ask you if it was okay?"

"New Year's in Hawaii," Blaze said dreamily, caught up in thoughts of his home in the islands. Blaze's mind screeched to a halt and he stopped rubbing his hair with the towel. "If what was okay?"

"Well, I told her we were moving in together and I wanted you two to meet. It wouldn't be right of me to just say it was okay for her to show up while you're getting settled in."

Blaze wasn't sure what he was more shocked over, Jason telling his grandmother so casually they were together or Jason being so thoughtful about his comfort. "Were you really worried I would be uncomfortable with a guest, especially your grandmother, you invited into your house?"

Jason sighed. "It's our house if we're living there together, you know. And I was a little concerned you would be nervous about meeting my family so soon."

"Soon?" Blaze said with a laugh. "We've been dating for over six months, babe."

"But we've been apart so long… I don't know," Jason said, hedging. "I wasn't sure you'd want to stay with me."

Blaze stared at Jason, blinking a few times in disbelief. "Why do you keep thinking I'm going to leave?"

"Never mind," Jason said shortly. "Is it okay if she comes out to see us?"

"Well, sure," Blaze said, tucking Jason's discomfort away in his mind. "Is she okay with us, you know… you being with a guy?"

"Yeah, she's cool with it. I told my grandma first before I told anyone else in my family about being bisexual. She said she already knew," Jason said with a shrug.

"That's awesome she's okay with it," Blaze said with a chuckle. "So we aren't checking out today?"

Jason shook his head as he stood up. "It's a little late now, but I thought it would be nice to have one more day, just you and I spending time in this wonderfully warm and cozy bed after a dinner out."

Blaze's eyes took in Jason's gorgeous form. "Dinner sounds awesome," he said, crawling back under the covers to get warm again before he got dressed.

Jason grabbed for the covers. "Don't hide, baby. I like this sight. There's a sexy man in my bed."

As Jason uncovered him, parting his robe, skin met skin and Jason's hard dick slid against his cock. It was hard for Blaze to fight down the response, and as Jason rattled off something he wasn't paying attention to, Blaze lost the battle.

"Are you listening to me?"

"Yeah?" He stared some more. God, Jason's cock twitched almost in time with each throb in Blaze's body.

"You're not listening. I can tell."

"Hmm?" Blaze said, completely distracted by the feel of Jason's slender body against his.

"So gorgeous," Jason murmured.

"Yes, you are," Blaze whispered with a chuckle. "I still don't know what you see in me, Jase. I'm just an average Hawaiian guy. You're good-looking enough to be a model or a movie star. God knows you have the name for it."

"Just because my family is in the movie business doesn't mean I want to be on camera," Jason grumbled. "I don't have big blue eyes like my dad or my brother. I have average brown eyes. They suck."

"They don't suck, Jase. They're gorgeous. I dreamt about them every night on the road," Blaze said honestly. Jason had the most beautiful brown eyes he had ever seen. They were a rich, deep brown, like stained oak. Blaze often found Jason looking down at him, his eyes gleaming with love, sometimes humor too. It took his breath away how sinfully gorgeous his boyfriend was. Except when Jason was scowling, like he was now… no, he was still sexy as hell even while pissed off.

"I'm serious, Jase. You have the most gorgeous eyelashes too. Have I told you I have a thing for long, dark eyelashes?"

"You're patronizing me."

"I'm not!"

"No one likes brown eyes," Jason grumbled. "You're strange."

Blaze sighed. "You're being contrary. You're hot and you know it." Jason tried to speak, but Blaze cut him off, placing a finger over his lips. "No, shush. Your eyes are gorgeous."

"I was going to agree with you," Jason said with a grin, his cocky attitude back. "If you say so, it must be true."

Blaze glared at him, knowing his exasperation must have been evident on his face. Jason chuckled and wrapped an arm around Blaze's waist, pulling them together. "It's cold," Blaze said with a shiver, reaching for the down comforter bunched at the bottom of the bed. He covered the two of them as Jason took off his robe. Jason threw it on the floor, and Blaze was treated to the sight of Jason's thick cock nestled in the dark curls.

It was only when Jason put a finger under his chin and nudged his head up that he realized he was staring at the other man's cock hungrily. He felt a flash of embarrassment when Jason smiled at him.

Blaze could feel the moisture between them where the tip of Jason's cock was leaking. Jason's face filled his vision, blocking the delicious sight as Jason leaned in and captured Blaze's lips.

Jason deepened the kiss, meeting Blaze's tongue and groaning when they slid together. Jason reached between them to encircle Blaze's cock, stroking the head and shaft gently. Blaze felt a shock run through his body, groaning loudly as he rolled his hips in time with Jason's hand.

He'd spent too long away from Jason, wondering if he'd made the right decision to keep touring instead of just becoming Jason's full-time bed partner. He knew, though, that he needed to keep up his end of the contract, not just for professionalism but for his own conscience as well.

Jason's thumb dragged along the underside of his cock, removing all thought from his mind, and the kisses and sensations crashing through him left Blaze breathless. Jason knew every button to push, bringing him to the brink while Blaze drowned in Jason's lush lips pressed against his.

Jason tasted minty and sweet, his tongue stroking Blaze's, delving deeper. Blaze fisted his hands in the sheets, but then he reached up to thread his fingers through Jason's thick, soft curls. Jason swallowed Blaze's moan as Blaze thrust into Jason's skilled hand, which stroked faster. Jason broke the kiss, whispering hotly, "Come for me."

He opened his eyes to look into Jason's hooded brown ones. Blaze gasped and thrust mindlessly as sensations crashed through him. His body was strung tightly as he twisted his fingers in Jason's hair. His orgasm surprised him, ripping through him, and he let loose a shout.

He lay there panting when Jason lay down next to him. Jason trailed his fingers, wet with cum, over Blaze's tensed abs. Blaze reached for him, but Jason stopped him. "We're both hungry, so go wash up again," Jason said with a chuckle. "I'll try to get us into this place my mom said was pretty amazing."

At the mention of food, Blaze realized how hungry he was, having skipped breakfast and lunch to sleep. He still felt like he should take care of his partner. "Are you sure? I feel kind of guilty."

Jason smiled and Blaze grinned back at him like a fool, basking in the afterglow. Warmth spread through him when Jason said, "I'll wait until tonight when we have time to take it slow, and since you slept all day, we'll make love all night long."

He was okay until Jason drawled out the last part dramatically, and Blaze burst out laughing. "God, I forgot what a dork you can be." Jason frowned as he went to sit up, but Blaze caught his arm, laughing. "And I forgot how much I love it."

Jason harrumphed, fighting to sit up, looking quite put out until Blaze shoved him back onto the bed, straddling Jason's hips as he crawled over him. "All the times I whispered 'I love you' on the bus as it took me farther away from you were never enough," Blaze said, covering Jason while his hand reached for the long, hard cock he'd craved and needed for all the cold months he'd spent in between cities, waiting at venues.

As Blaze looked down at Jason, he realized the other man looked much younger than his thirty-two years, his vulnerability now on display for Blaze to see. The fact he showed it to Blaze spoke of the trust built between the two of them over the past six months.

When Blaze touched the silken skin of what he had blindly sought, Jason's hand covered his own. "No, really, babe," Jason said huskily. "If you start that, we won't make it out of the hotel."

"Doesn't sound so bad," Blaze said as he bent his head to Jason's pale, soft skin.
Jason chuckled. "Thanks for the compliment. My head—or should I say both my heads—thank you profusely. My stomach doesn't and is telling you to take a hike." As if on cue, Jason's stomach rumbled.

Blaze pulled away and sat back on his haunches. "I get the hint, baby," he said exasperatedly. He did really, except now he wanted to stay in bed with Jason and order room service, not go out in the cold and eat.

He backed off the bed, saying, "I need a shower again." And it was true, since he hadn't cleaned up yet, his stomach was covered in his own cum. He thought Jason's rejection would sting, but it didn't. Not when Jason's dark eyes held a soul-consuming passion meant for him. He heard Jason's groan as he edged toward the bed, grabbing for Blaze.

Blaze twisted away, getting perverse enjoyment out of the growl Jason issued, and once he was out of arm's reach, he sent Jason a heated look meant to inflame his lust. He was rewarded when Jason made a leap for him and managed to grab his wrist. His balance was thrown off as Jason pulled him back.

Blaze's stomach tightened as a thrill shot through him when he felt Jason's long cock pressed against his ass. Jason's voice filled him, sending a tingle all the way to his toes.

"When we get back here tonight, I want to lay you out on this bed and blow your mind. If you're able to make it out the door tomorrow without walking funny, I didn't accomplish what I set out to do. Do you like the sound of that?"

Blaze gurgled, trying to choke out the words. Finally, he uttered a strangled, "Yeah." He felt Jason's lips on the back of his neck, nipping gently at the skin. Jason loosened his hold on him, stepping away. Blaze took a deep breath to steady himself just as he felt a light slap on his ass. He looked over his shoulder at the sexy half-grin Jason sported, along with an enticing bulge. He was sure his glare said it all, and he stepped into the bathroom, trying to block out Jason's soft chuckle.
