Yaoi-con Part Deux
I'm posting the end of the last post again because I shouldn't post when I'm hungry. I act all crazy and shit and forget words :/
Anyway, we have to head back because I'm meeting with the other DSP authors. So we head back and I run around the room and get cleaned up and head down to the Monterey Room to say hi.
AND ZOMG... I meet Mary Calmes. I then proceed to dork out and act like an idiot and be totally stupid. Yeah. *hides* I also meet some of my other fave authors and I have a moment where I can't believe this is what I do. I'm an AUTHOR. Wow.
So I get my badge and sorta help set-up. (I carried a box) And then it's time for a bit of nom with hubby. We head to In-and-Out. And due to a shady cab driver, my husband is held hostage while I make change at the In-And-Out (Cab driver claimed he had change when we got in, but suddenly didn't when we got to our stop) but he was safe. Be careful out there guys, there are some really not nice people out there.
The next morning, I head downstairs for a lovely breakfast and then finally to man up the booth at Yaoi-con. I try really hard not to fangirl Mary but that proves to be too difficult a task. So I fangirl her badly. BADLY.
And Amy Lane gives me the most awesome hat!
I also hung out with EM Lynley, Andrew Grey and Clare London. And of course the always cool Ariel Tachna and Nikki Bennett. Julianne Bentley showed up at the end of our shift too.
But it's lunch time and I'm off! :D I go to In-and-Out for some one-on-one time with a burger. It was lovely :D
When I get back to the hotel, hubby is downstairs and I head back to fangirl Mary but I spread the love! :) I met Shira Anthony and I was her first autograph (the first of many I'm sure) and I did some shopping.
But when I reach our room, my ickle Milly doll is gone. For those of you who don't know, my hubby gave me a little stuffed cat for our first Christmas together. She has traveled everywhere with me, including when my husband and I were separated for nine months waiting for my visa. She's kinda ratty but I love her! She was found though. She had an ickle adventure! She said I was like Little Orphan Annie and I escaped in the laundry.
She's okay now though!
But that night, I passed out. I gave up fighting to stay awake and fell asleep.
And keep right on going! Post Two!

My trip to San Francisco and Yaoi-Con
So wow, Yaoi-con was FUCKING AWESOME. I was little worried about fitting in but have no fear, I just dorked out like everyone else and it was AWESOME.
Do realize I'm a native Californian and if you don't like the word AWESOME, you will be sadly disappointed with this post.

Here's Milly and I waiting for our flight in the lounge by the Virgin America lounge.
So on the flight out there, we tried to get an upgrade to First Class. Since the plane was bursting at the seams, this was not going to happen. But sitting in coach on Virgin America is like flying in First. It looks like we're in a bar too, not a plane!

We watched TV and my husband watched Cars 2. We had a blast and I'm now in love with this popcorn.
http://www.479popcorn.com/index.html
FINALLY! I'm home in California. Well, not really home but I'm in California. Florida is my home now, with cats. (They are now hiding under the bed, scared I'm taking them back to the kennel) And where is my first stop? Okay, yeah, the hotel, where they have the bed request wrong. So off to my fave burger place to eat while they fix that.

(If you've never had an In-And-Out burger, you're missing out.)
Back to fall into bed. The next day, we hit Japantown! I'm so excited and we walk down to the train. We pass In-And-Out *cries* and head into the city. Well once we were in the city, it's a huge hike from the train station near there to the actual location so we had to take the bus. And the people are exceptionally nice. I don't know if we had tourist written on our foreheads or what but people stopped us, knew we were lost and helped us go the right way. To all of these people, thank you!
ZOMG!!! We are in Japantown and it is TOTALLY AWESOME!
We shop in complete and total awe, barely able to speak. After hours are me squeeing and Hubby saying "Oh that's quite nice" we sit down for a nommie lunch/dinner.

We take a taxi home because I can even wait for the bus and I am so exhausted, my legs are shaking. I fall into bed and sleep for a couple of hours and wake up fully refreshed. We head downstairs to see some of the Yaoi-con people have arrived and we watch them being geeks, while totally geeking out ourselves!
Hubby takes me to a lovely birthday dinner and I had filet with blue cheese (not supposed to have blue cheese but oh well) and then we meandered a bit.
And we meet Morgan Hawke! :D Who is awesome! www.morganhawke.com
So bed for us, because Morgan has been up for 48 hours and I need my beauty rest. Next morning I wake up and head down to brekkie.
IT'S MY BIRTHDAY! Happy Birthday to me! (I'm excited, can you tell?)
Anyway, we go to Japantown to do a huge amount of birthday shopping and I splurged on my lil sis and luckily, no one called to sing happy birthday to me, just wish me happy birthday.
And of course I have my awesome birthday dessert! YUM.

Then I eat the strawberry and it had mold in it. I'm highly allergic to penicillin so I'm hoping I don't have an allergic reaction. I also realize I have a dairy intolerance and this was the worst idea so far of the trip. Whoops.

The next morning I woke up and Hubby's lip is somehow cut open and swollen. I head to Walgreens and buy some ointment but holy hell, it's far away!
I get back and give hubby his medicated lip ointment. By now, I'm sporting a bitching slipper tan line. Check it out:

But I missed Amy Lane :( (See you next year!) but I did meet Isabelle Rowan. I also get a commission done for my latest novel Soul Seduction. And wow, this is amazing! I took a picture of it and I was blown away by the artist's talent. (Oh yeah, that's a chick there.)
What's really weird is as I was picking up the drawing, I received my preliminary cover art. And it is bad-ass. I can't wait to post it. Here is a link and soon it will be showing up magically. (Hopefully)

Back to the con, I help pack up (not really that much help) the DSP Booth and the cases get checked at the bellhop and I'm suddenly sad because it's all over. And tomorrow I'm leaving on a jet plane. :( So I hug and kiss everyone good-bye and go upstairs to pack.
One last trip to In-And-Out (by now, I'm sick of it) and packing is my friend. If you don't know me, I'm a scary talented packer. We bought a lot of stuff and without an extra suitcase, it's going to be a tight fit. So I take a shower and when my hubby comes back, every last thing has it's place, including his Spice and Wolf body pillow.
I held my breath until the next morning, because I was sure that my suitcase was going to be over 50 lbs but no joke, it's at 49. :O while dancing to the groovy music at the Virgin America check-in counter, we managed to get an upgrade to first class and then we are all set to go through security.
Now, take note TSA. You should all model yourselves after the SFO airport security. Everything is orderly. There are mailers available if you get to security and realize you left your gardening clippers in your hand bag. Oh, did you forget a quart clear bag for your liquids? That's okay. You can have one that says SFO on it, FOR FREE. Do you have a bottle of water? It's okay, don't hurt yourself drinking it before security so you'll wet your pants in line. Just dump it out and refill your bottle once you're past security with our filtered water. Don't forget to recycle your bottle when you're done! :D *groovy*
Oh yeah. Did I forget to mention YOU HAVE A FUCKING PINKBERRY past security?!?! My breakfast was a Pinkberry. My trip is now complete.
But it's time to leave. And I already hate I have to leave the state I was born in and 35 years ago, I was barely a few days old. I'll always be a California girl.
But I'm glad we got the upgrade because holy shit, these seats are nice. I acted stupid and flailed in my seat like a dork. Hubby could actually stretch his legs all the way out and not hit the seat in front of him.

But then we have to watch a safety video. And it's worth it to watch for the LULZ!!! :D
I watched Bad Teacher (ehh) and Source Code (WOW! Highly recced) but then we're back home and it's time to pick up the kids! I walk into the cattery and I speak and the babies wake up and start meowing for me. And I start to cry because I missed them so much.
Only one more load of laundry to go and I'm done.
This week was amazing. I was worried because while I'm very much a go-getter, I tend to be very shy about my writing. I have a hard time accepting compliments about it. Now as a CEO, I get compliments all the time about our products, our marketing strategy and our contractors and employees and I take those well.
I'm proud of both areas but the writing, I'm very on display here. I never feel like I'm in control when writing and that's hard to accept. I also hate to say this, but there are some mean people in this industry who are just looking to hurt writers. I haven't made sense of it and I don't think I ever will but having thicker skin may be for the best.
But this weekend, there were a few kind people, who treated me with the utmost respect. To those people, you have my greatest thanks from the bottom of my heart. To be next to you, as a fellow writer, just blows my mind.
So I'm signing off to get ready for my book tour. Soul Seduction's cover is on its way!

I've wanted to do a post about my dear friend who passed away but my thoughts and feelings were muddled. She wasn't just a friend, she were contractors for me. I was lucky enough to meet these lovely folks in the twilight of their lives and spend the last few years working beside them.
They were former business owners but as they got older, they didn't want to spend the hours it takes to run a business; they just wanted to get out there and sell. And they wanted to travel. They had never been west of the Mississippi before and they were planning to go to England, if they could make enough money with us.
They did all of that and really had a blast. This year they celebrated 60 years of marriage. And today, he said good bye to her for the time being. He cried today when he spoke of her and that just broke my heart. Hug your lover, your wife/husband or your partner when you see them today because we are lucky to love like my friends did each other.
If you have a chance, please donate to your local Hospice. They helped her to pass in peace and with dignity. Thank you.

Writer's Block: 9/11 - One writer's take.
Where were you?
At 8:46am, I was asleep. I work weekends so no reason to be up. I was still living with my parents and traveling as a sales team for a company. My mom came bursting into my room and said, "A plane has hit the world trade center. It's really bad."
I hauled myself out of bed and grabbed a cup of coffee. I went out into the living room and my mom had CNN on the TV. I sat down and just stared. I kept thinking they were evacuating the building but then my mom called out, "You'd better come here."
We had friends who worked for American Airlines and he worked on the computer end over there. He immediately called his wife, who was on online chat with my mom. All we could make out was they knew the plane had gone out of communication and that was the first plane that crashed into the tower. And there were other planes not accounted for. I vaguely remember that the president of AA had grounded all planes not in the air.
I went back out and watched the news and the rest of the day was a blur. My boyfriend was a musician who was traveling that day. He had to get a rental car home. My dad was in California at his job site. They closed for a couple days.
Our friend in the city looked out her back window after talking to my mom and tried to get in touch with her young son who was on a field trip in the city. They had taken the train in but had to walk home.
I knew I would remember where I had been that morning for the rest of my life. My mom likened it to Kennedy when he was assassinated. Everyone alive remembers where they were when they found out.
I wasn't thinking of where I would be in ten years. Retail, our sector, was hit hard in 2001. Everyone in my immediate family all lost our jobs. We took a couple of interim jobs to get by as we regrouped and I started my own retail business. It is successful today.
The guy I was dating back then is a distant memory. I'm happily married to a handsome Brit and we have two cats together. I was living in Lake Mary back then. Now I live right outside of Disney.
In 2002, I put on hold my dream to get published so I could work full time on my business. I should have kept writing, if only for myself.
I watched the video timeline of 9/11 from the Today show and my heart nearly caved in on itself. I remembered so much of what happened that day, especially when Flight 93 went down. The three other planes were tragic and horrific but flight 93 was the turning point, where those brave souls said we will not go down without a fight.
That's how we are. We are a nation of fighters. And as a world, we are coming together. Because I truly believe we are not a world full of hate. Hate is a emotion that will eventually burn out but love will exist for all time.
For all of the people we lost in 9/11, for the firefighter who was too shy to tell our friend he loved her, even though he went to every recital her students put on, for the people who were brave in the face on true evil, we will live on in your memory.
Thank you.

I did my part and gave life today!
So this is my big update. For no apparent reason :D
Today, I gave blood for the first time. I'm O negative and I know I'm a universal donor but for years, I passed out every time I tried to give blood. But today, I did just fine! :)
Our techs were super nice and funneh! I went with
kelemoon
and we gave blood. She's done it for years but I was a newbie. It was just a great feeling to know I'm helping out our blood supply, especially since I'm a universal donor.
My mom needed blood a few times while fighting cancer. It was because of a transfusion that she made it through to be able to see my wedding. So now that I'm healthy again, I'll definitely be donating again :)

Landfall from DSP (M/M, Contemporary)

Landfall
Publisher: Dreamspinner Press
Format: ebook
ISBN-13: 978-1-61372-054-7
Purchase from DSP
Excerpt:
THE sound of the rain hitting my slicker was earsplitting. I wished there were some sort of way to block out the noise because by the time the fire truck arrived, I would be deaf.
I took a deep breath, trying to ignore the water I sucked in as I scanned the parking lot where I was waiting. The bridge to the island had been shut down a couple of hours ago to everyone but emergency crews. Everyone but firemen and now… me.
The roar of the fire truck was deafening when it pulled into the supermarket parking lot, but only a little more so than the rain. I'd already checked in with the fireman stationed there to let him know I was with Hospice and a patient needed me. Now all I needed to do was stand in the rain and wait to get onto an island getting slammed by ninety mile-per-hour winds
"Ready?"
I nodded at one of the workers and held up my waterproof backpack full of new medicine the doctor had prescribed. The patient was an elderly lady in the hospice care I worked for who had decided to wait out the hurricane in her home. In fact, her exact words when I talked to her were, "Since the cancer hasn't gotten me yet, I doubt the storm will either."
I followed the fireman to the fire engine rumbling as it idled at the edge of the parking lot. The rain and wind had let up a little bit, and by that I meant it was no longer sideways and in my face.
We arrived at the truck and the guy helped me into my seat. The firefighters were talking all around me, and I recognized each and every one of them. I saw most of these men at some time or another when visiting their teammates after a bad fire or an injury.
Then there was the ever-so-sexy, drop-dead gorgeous Mike Brown, Deputy Fire Chief, who was sitting shotgun and speaking into a walkie-talkie. Every time I saw him walk through my ER, I tried to stop myself from drooling. He was at least a half-foot taller than my own six-foot-nothing, and his build made me feel like a twink. I hadn't felt that way since I was fifteen and started playing varsity soccer.
Even though my fantasies ran into overtime on the gorgeous blond fireman, I was fairly certain Mike was straight, since he flirted with every nurse in the ER. Well, maybe flirting was a heavy word to use. He smiled a lot, which was nice because he had a perfect smile. When he was done talking to whoever was on the other end of his walkie-talkie, he looked over his shoulder and shot me a million-dollar grin.
"Ready?"
I needed to get my mind back on business. I'd checked out the weather before I left my apartment, and I knew the storm was only starting. It was moving slow and it would be a few hours before the eye made landfall.
I gave Mike a nod and he indicated for the driver to roll out. Adrenaline coursed through my body and took care of my nerves as we rumbled up the street toward the bridge. One of the firefighters leaned forward from his jump seat and handed me one of walkie-talkies. "When you're done, just radio for us. Don't change the channel. Any questions?"
Fred used to be an EMT before becoming a firefighter this year, so I remembered him well from his visits to the ER. He was always nice and good-tempered, but right now, he was so serious. I took the radio from him and used the belay clip to attach it to my backpack. "Dude," I said quietly. "Are you nervous?"
He shook his head, even though I knew it was a lie. This hurricane was the worst to hit our town since long before either of us had been born. No one would have blamed him if he was panicking, but he'd put a brave face on and was keeping quiet. "No, man. I'm cool."
I sat back in my seat, the vibration of the truck shaking me all the way to my bones as I heard Mike yelling into his radio over the noise of the rain. We rumbled along as the bands of rain kept coming onshore. I could barely make out the huge beachfront homes along Gulf Boulevard, and I wondered wildly for a second if some of the water slapping the side of the truck was from the ocean.
A shiver ran down my back as the adrenaline rush ended. What a time, too, as we were pulling on to my patient's street. I grabbed my backpack, checking to make sure my radio was attached.
Once we came to a full stop outside the house, I hopped down and slung my bag over my shoulder.
"Jared, wait," Mike called.
I stepped over to where Mike stood. "Listen, be careful. When you call for us, wait inside. This street is going to flood before long, and we may be a while because a house collapsed down south of here."
I nodded as I tried to shield my eyes from the rain. "I think I'll be fine," I said, knowing my tone told him I was humoring him.
"Hey," he said, becoming serious. "You're in my care down here, and I take your safety seriously, even if you don't." He stepped closer as he spoke, the water quickly soaking his blond hair and running down his face.
I couldn't stop looking at him because of the way the water sluiced down his forehead and dripped off his nose. Mike towered over me, making me feel like a shrimp.
He was still staring down at me, obviously wanting me to agree I wasn't going to do anything stupid. "Fine, I promise not to try anything dumb. Not like you have to worry though, since my self-preservation skills are pretty high," I yelled over the rain.
Even though my slicker was protecting me somewhat, I was getting soaked from the knees down. I pointed toward the house, tired of yelling. "Go!" Mike shouted, turning back to the truck.
I couldn't help but gawk at him as he got in. The man had a body to die for underneath his heavy fire gear, and here I was standing out in the rain, making an ass out of myself. I couldn't see his body but I still stared at him. I turned after he shut the truck door, my eye candy gone.

Writer's Block: Happily ever after…
What's Harry going to do now that the series is over?
First off... I'm not going to be seeing the Deathly Hallows film in theaters because I haven't seen the first part. Why? Because I was waiting for part 2 to come out. But I will watch it, maybe even with my cute Brit hubby :D
Anyone who knows me from my

I thought it would be a lovely date for us but he said no. When I asked him why not, he said (and I quote) "I hung out in the Harry Potter fandom to get laid. And it worked! I met a nice girl, and now I have a wife. I'm happy with how it turned out."
So what's Harry going to do now? Maybe he's going to Disneyland? IDK.
