Muse Food – Portholes
In my stories, my characters refer to windows as portholes.
(This porthole was spotted in the Steampunk exhibit on the Norwegian Getaway.)
Spaceship terminology is often based on sailing ship terminology. And sailing ships had portholes, round highly secured waterproof windows.
The portholes in the cyborg world aren’t all round. That is often an impractical shape especially for planet-based structures.
But I DO often think of them as being round. (grins)

Cynthia Sax Weekly Update – April 30
Strive For Forever, the fourth core story in the Cyborg Unity series, is due to my Awesome Editor by end of my day today! I’ll be re-reading it a gazillion times today, ensuring everything flows and makes sense and likely adding some more unnecessary commas. (grins)
Tomorrow, I will sleep the sleep of the dead. I plan to sleep all week. Especially as I likely won’t get any sleep tonight.

Non-Warrior Cyborgs And Dangerous Missions
Grin, the hero of Grin And Bare Him, and Strive, the hero of Strive For Forever (releasing in July), are both non-warrior cyborgs. Grin is an architect and Strive is an artist.
Their stories still involve dangerous missions.
Because we don’t have to be warriors to save the universe.
I spent a morning recently picking up earthworms stranded on the driveway after a rain. I moved them to the grass.
I saved their lives and I’m no warrior. (grins)
All I did was take action. Anyone can take action.

Book Brain In A Huge Way
Strive For Forever, the fourth core story in the Cyborg Unity series (releasing in July), is due to my Awesome Editor by end of my day (laughs) April 30th.
I’m DEEP into this story right now. I dream about Strive and Euryale and Adam. Their antics are at the forefront of my thoughts 24 hours a day.
This is my process. At this stage of writing a story, I’m ensuring continuity. I’m making certain all the tiny details hang together. I have to hold the entire story in my head.
Which means everything else gets a bit wild. Don’t expect deep, thoughtful posts here on this blog. (grins) I’m fortunate if I can relay a coherent thought.

Throwback Thursday – Ghost Of A Machine
If you love broken heroes, you’ll love Ghost Of A Machine.
Ghost is the most damaged cyborg warrior I’ve ever encountered. When he meets his female, he is basically feral. He’s a killing machine. Literally. And only she can stop him.

Being An Insect Lover
I’ve always been an insect lover. When I was a kid, I would try to build my own ant farms. I’d place dirt in a empty coffee tins, collect ants and then store these makeshift ant farms under my bed.
The ants would, of course, escape. Or the tins would get knocked over.
My Awesome Mom would NOT be amused.
My love for insects is why I often comment on unique insects on alien planets and why I feature insect aliens (like the Mantidae, the giant migrating praying mantis-resembling insects in Releasing Rage) in many of my stories.
There are so many awesome alien looking insects here on Earth and they serve as inspiration.

Sleeping Bumblebees
The Dear Wonderful Hubby and I spotted a bumblebee recently.
He was sleeping, snuggled up next to a tomato seedling in the basement grow station.
He was so very adorable, with his fuzzy bee bum sticking out from underneath the leaves.
And he was VERY grumpy when we transferred him outside and woke him up. I don’t think he is a morning bee.

Muse Food – Warnings
I’m perverse. So when the Dear Wonderful Hubby and I saw this warning at the Royal Naval Dockyards in Bermuda, the one thing I wanted to do desperately was climb the fence.
(grins)
We didn’t climb the fence.
But my reaction was a reminder to myself that characters don’t always react to warnings sensibly. They might become MORE determined to do the dangerous thing. They might dismiss the warning. They might not trust it or the being giving the warning.
This uncertainty makes stories more interesting, doesn’t it?

Cynthia Sax Weekly Update – April 23
I am working on the second draft of Strive For Forever, the fourth core story in the Cyborg Unity series (releasing in July)! Woot!
The first draft is the usual hot mess. (grins) I don’t know how I’d react if I ever miraculously created a coherent first draft. That would likely be a sign of the end of the world.
But the bones of the story are awesome. I love both Strive and his female and, of course, Adam, the entity using her as a host form. I think you’ll enjoy Strive For Forever.

Having Something To Lose
The Dear Wonderful Hubby and I lost two beloved Aunties recently.
It was hard to lose them.
But it was also a privilege.
Because we had the honor of knowing these wonderful people and loving them.
That grief we’re feeling? It is based in caring. We only mourn people or furbabies or things or lifestyles we had the good fortune to care about.
And not everyone, unfortunately, had that experience. They missed out on knowing them.
WE were the lucky ones. I remember that when I endure loss.
