Snow Magic
The Dear Wonderful Hubby and I flew home via London, England yesterday, on Christmas Eve.
The flight was packed with kids.
As we left London, some of them (stationed all over the plane) sang ‘Rain, rain, go away.’
On repeat.
For at least a half hour.
(I fell asleep after that.)
When we approached Toronto, we saw that the city was blanketed with a layer of fresh white snow.
One child whispered with wonder, “Snow.”
“Snow, mommy, snow.” This was said louder by another child.
Soon, it became a chant by kids seated all over the plane. I couldn’t understand some of the languages spoken but I KNEW what they were repeating.
Snow.
Snow.
Snow.
A child started singing the ‘Do you want to build a snowman’ song and other kids quickly joined in.
It was magical.
(smiles)
Truly magical as this snow had arrived on Monday, the 23rd, and we’re expecting 3 mm of rain on Friday, the 27th.

Happy Holidays!
Happy stay at home for at least a little bit and read day to everyone! (grins)
And happy holidays to everyone who celebrates!
Know that you are loved. (big hugs) You make this fantastical universe a much more awesome place. There is no other you anywhere in it and isn’t that amazing?
The Dear Wonderful Hubby and I are fortunate to know you (more hugs) and to include you as part of our online family.

Gifts For Gardeners
If you’re looking for last minute gifts for a beloved gardener in your life, here are some things that I truly enjoy receiving…
Bamboo stakes are ALWAYS useful. I use them for my tomatoes and anything else that I want to climb upward. They are great for extra support for chicken wire corrals and other things. They also break down over time so gardeners like myself need a constant supply of them.
Heirloom seeds are usually appreciated. They’re a little pricier than non-heirloom seeds but they also come in funky varieties that your gardener is unlikely to already have.
A great trowel is an awesome gift. Your gardener might not use it right away. They might already have a trowel. But they will likely either break (it happens!) or misplace the one they are currently using and need another.
Gardening gloves, the soft cotton kind, are always appreciated. Again, they wear out and get dirty (needing a wash) and are sometimes lost. Plus they come in wonderful patterns (like starfish! Or planets! Or ‘F*ck Plants’! – grins). You can have some fun with gardening gloves.

Muse Food – A Holiday Whale
The Dear Wonderful Hubby and I spotted this holiday whale in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico a couple of years ago.
Celebrations are often modified for local customs or sights or activities. Whale watching is huge in Puerto Vallarta so they have a holiday whale. In Cochrane, Canada, they often decorate a polar bear. In Australia, they might have a holiday kangaroo.
The holidays wherever your story is set will be modified slightly also. Reflect that in your world building.

Cynthia Sax Weekly Update – December 22
This upcoming week, I’ll be spending holiday time with the Dear Wonderful Hubby and other loved ones. (smiles) I’m an extreme introvert (the Dear Wonderful Hubby is an extreme extrovert) so I’ll likely be sleeping between parties/visits. That’s how I roll. (laughs)
Have a wonderful week, my friends. (big hugs) Give yourself the gift of some time (it could be 5 minutes) to yourself. Do something YOU want to do. Read a few pages of a beloved story. Snuggle under a comfy blanket. Take a bubble bath. Eat a cookie. Treat yourself well. You deserve everything good. (more hugs)

How To Defeat An Enemy
I’ve completed over two decades of research on Fascism and that formed the base for the Cyborg World.
The Humanoid Alliance are textbook fascists. Are there any other kind? Not really. Fascists have a fairly set playbook of strategies and tactics and positionings.
Which makes them predictable. And predictability, as any cyborg would tell you, is a huge weakness, one a daring Rebel can exploit and a savvy person can use to survive.

Your Newsletter Subscriber Information
I sent my last newsletter in November on the release day for Claiming Cure.
Some writing buddies have asked me why I stopped sending newsletter then. We usually increase our readership with every newsletter sent. Shouldn’t I continue sending newsletters while my books are available at booksellers?
Financially, yes, that makes sense.
But there are things that are MUCH more important than money. There’s freedom. There’s love. There’s protecting the people we care about.
I stopped sending newsletters out of concern for you, my reading buddies. (big hugs)
I not only deleted my account at the newsletter company. I also deleted (semi-manually) every subscriber’s information. It took a while and I don’t know if that information will be completely deleted in the databases but it was the best I could do to ensure your information doesn’t fall into the hands of any Fascists or other baddies.
I love you. (more hugs) And I wish you good health and love and happiness.
Be safe out there, my friends.

Throwback Thursday – Seizing Power
Seizing Power is one of my all time favorite cyborg romances. It can be read on its own.
But I don’t recommend doing that. Because both Power, the cyborg hero, and Eirene Ours, the cyborg heroine, appear in a gazillion stories before they finally meet. And each of those stories reveals a little bit more about them.
We uncover that Power, the self-appointed leader of the Cyborg Council, is a bit of an a$$helmet. He will do ANYTHING, sacrifice ANYONE for the good of the cyborg whole. Everyone respects him but no one likes him and he prefers it to be that way.
Eirene Ours certainly doesn’t like him. This is a true enemies-to-lovers romance, She is seeking to kill him or, at the very least, damage him a bit.
Eirene Ours is the daughter of Ghost and Lethe and is the leader of a rebel faction within the cyborgs.
She definitely matches Power for strength and influence.
He doesn’t process that…yet. (grins)
Seizing Power
This cyborg believes he’s in control.
Power is the self-appointed leader of the cyborg council. Other members might debate situations. He makes the ultimate decisions.
When a threat to Homeland is revealed, he takes command of a fleet and ventures to the edge of cyborg-controlled space to investigate. He finds a rebellion led by a mysterious upstart he calls Cadet.
The plan Power derives is simple—he’ll quickly quash the uprising and teach its leader a lesson the warrior will never forget.
NO ONE challenges his authority.
Eirene Ours might be called a cadet by Power but she is NOT his subordinate. She is the arrogant E Model’s genetic match.
For much of her mature lifespan, she has desired the male, yearning for his dark-eyed gaze, craving his sure hands, longing for his respect.
That esteem was never granted. And Eirene Ours can no longer wait to earn it. There’s an external threat to their kind, a danger that might destroy them all.
Having lured Power to her home terrain, she now plans to use everything within her means — her fists, her daggers, her ship-destroying missiles — to pound that truth into her stubborn warrior’s thick metal skull.
The future of every cyborg is at stake. She can’t fail them.
Power will believe her. Or he will die.
***
Seizing Power is an enemies-to-lovers Cyborg SciFi Romance set in a dark, gritty, sometimes-violent universe.
It features an epic battle between two equally strong cyborg leaders, plans that go terribly yet passionately wrong, and a love that will shake the entire universe.

Love And Loss
There are quite a few deaths in Claiming Cure. It IS set during a rebellion.
One death, however, impacted Cure and Cyra especially hard.
They dealt with it. Together. They grew stronger for that experience.
About a year into my relationship with the Dear Wonderful Hubby, one of my brothers, the sibling I was closest to and considered one of my best friends, died.
It temporarily destroyed me. I howled for days. I lost at least a year of my life. I can’t remember that year at all.
But stars, it made my relationship with the Dear Wonderful Hubby bulletproof.
Because he stepped up. Wow, did he step up. He drove me hours to pick up one of my sisters. Then he drove us back, booked tickets to my Awesome Mom’s city for all three of us, and accompanied us to the funeral and visits.
He didn’t know anyone outside of my immediate family. He had never been to the city.
And something I didn’t realize until YEARS after that time (I was THAT out of it with grief), he PAID for all the airline tickets and all the incidental costs.
The Dear Wonderful Hubby, at the time, was working THREE jobs. We would share a slice of pizza on date nights. Yet he paid thousands of dollars (last minute flights aren’t cheap) out of his own pocket and didn’t say a word about it.
Deaths can be tests. The Dear Wonderful Hubby certainly passed that test with flying colors.
As did Cure and Cyra.

Gardening – Nature Needs A Rest Also
Lately, I’ve been sleeping. A lot. It is glorious. (smiles)
I didn’t realize how tired I was until I was given the opportunity to take a rest.
But we ALL need to take rests.
And that includes nature.
It is winter in my part of the universe. It is too cold for much to grow.
The Dear Wonderful Hubby and I have reset all the garden beds, covering them with crushed eggshells, homemade compost, coffee grounds and a thick layer of leaves.
And we’re allowing those beds to rest.
Things still happen during rests. When we sleep, we continue to breathe, to heal, our heart beats, etc. When garden beds rest over a winter, the leaves continue to break down, the worms are alive and well, the insect eggs are growing the next generation, etc. But the activities are different and they’re…slower, more relaxed.
Give yourself and your garden beds time to rest. (big hugs)
