Throwback Thursday – Warlord Sky
Warlord Sky is currently 99 cents everywhere and I thought
it would be nice to feature it today. I love this story. I think you’ll love it
also.
Warlord Sky is the first story in the now completed Chamele
Barbarian Warlords series. It features a wounded barbarian pilot hero and an
inventor engineer heroine who is too human than she’d like to be.
Both of them have
given up on romantic love. Both have created unconventional families for
themselves (one of them literally – grins). And when they meet, they fit. They
might fight that fit but it is strong and there and undeniable.

Wintery Alien Worlds
It is quite snowy in my part of the universe today. It looks
like a winter wonderland outside my window. The blanket of sparkling white over
everything is beautiful.
There are writers who have crafted some equally wonderful
wintery alien worlds. Ruby Dixon, for example, has her awesome Ice Planet
Barbarian series and spinoff series.
I have one alien/cyborg romance story set on an ice-covered
planet.
One. (Warlord Reunited.)
Why?
Because I live in Canada and snow is my reality for a good portion
of the year. (This is changing rapidly and noticeably with climate change,
unfortunately, but for now, the Dear Wonderful Hubby and I have snow.) I’m
currently typing this post wearing my fingerless gloves and I haven’t seen the
sun in over a week.
Writing is an escape for me so I usually choose to go
somewhere where there is sun and warmth. There’s often sand because water is at
a premium throughout the universe and I don’t expect that will ever change. And
it is much easier to have sexy times in warm places. Clothing can be shed and no
one has to worry about bits being frozen off. (grins)

Holding Hoarse And Visiting With Old Friends
Holding Hoarse, my gift to you this year, is the last story
in the Cyborg Space Exploration part of the Cyborg Romance Continuum.
There will be many more cyborg stories shared, of course. We
still have Power’s explosive story to enjoy. (grins) We’ll be meeting new
cyborgs in 2021. I am REALLY looking forward to sharing the next generation’s
stories.
But these stories will officially reside in other subseries.
(Power’s story is the fifth one in the upcoming Rebel Cyborgs subseries).
Some reading buddies have asked, “Will we see Hoarse and
Relay and Surge and all the other cyborg warriors and their females again?”
YES! We will definitely see them when I share the next generation’s
stories. Future, Vector and Kasia’s son, will likely have his story told in
that subseries, for example. We’ll also briefly hear from many cyborgs during Power’s
story in the Rebel Cyborgs subseries. They might also make surprise appearances
in other stories.
And, if you are a newsletter subscriber, you always have the
ability to request updates for characters. When I have a free slot in the newsletter,
I’ll share the update you request. (Let me know if you want to be credited for
requesting the update.)

Holding Hoarse And Rag Dolls
In Holding Hoarse, Hoarse and Arlicia create soft-formed dolls or ulus from new materials. The original rag dolls here on Earth, however, were made from exactly that—rags.
Rags are inexpensive. Everyone has clothing that has worn
out.
But they are also meaningful because often those clothes
meant something to the maker and to the recipient.
When my Granddad died, for example, my Grandma made simple
ragdolls from his worn-out dress shirts and gave them to her then very much
grown children. My Awesome Mom still takes out that doll to this day and
touches and smells it whenever she is missing her parents.
My craftsy Grandma was also a superb chocolate chip cookie
maker. She would make rag dolls from the cloth flour bags. She gave those to
all the kids in her life and we loved them.
There are a gazillion ways to make rag dolls. These methods range from simple, fast and easy, requiring very little skills to complicated and time-involving, requiring sewing skills.
I would likely make the ‘body’ larger or the head smaller so the doll is more proportional. I might add hair and/or a handkerchief (using a different colored fabric, tied at the doll’s nape with the same piece of string/elastic).One of the easiest, quickest, no skills required rag doll my Grandma would make (and we would all love) consisted of…
Forming a ball with some tiny scraps of fabric.
Wrapping a larger piece of fabric around that ‘head’ and securing it with a piece of yarn or string or elastic.
Using a pen or marker to make eyes, a nose, a mouth. (She would add hair and other details if she had the time or energy.)
The rest of the fabric was the body. (She would sometimes layer different fabrics with the palest piece on top and that would make the body fancier.)
Bam. She had a doll to give to a grandchild.
She had also created love.

Cynthia Sax Weekly Update – December 13th
When I was a kid, we had real trees. We usually sourced them
from the back yard. (grins) That’s how we roll in the country. Most of our land
was an informal ‘tree lot.’
My Awesome Mom now lives in an apartment and she likes to
keep the tree up for months. An artificial tree allows her to do that.
What I do, every year, is order her a small arrangement
involving evergreen tree branches from the local florist. That way, her
apartment has that real tree smell (and it also supports local business).
That arrangement arrived yesterday and my Awesome Mom was
super happy.
This past week, I also wrote six chapters in Under Strain,
the second Rebel Cyborgs story (releasing in May). This first draft is a hot
mess. (sheepish grin) My first drafts are always chaotic. But I love this
couple. The story is action-packed. And some of the scenes make me cry so hard.
I think you’ll love it…ONCE I carve it completely out of the
mud it is buried in. (laughs) That’s part of the fun of writing. I know there’s
a story under all that guck but I have to find it.
This week, I’ll be writing the next six chapters of Under
Strain. I hope to have this first draft completed before my holidays start.
Then I will take a break from writing (if the story allows me to do this) and
spend some quality time with the Dear Wonderful Hubby.
We are in lockdown in our part of the universe. That means
the holidays will be celebrated with loved ones via Zoom and the phone and the
Dear Wonderful Hubby and I will share meals for two. We already have a turkey
breast, Stovetop Stuffing, and an assortment of cookies my Awesome Mom made and
mailed to us. Our holidays will be lovely but different and everyone will be
safer for it.
As the Dear Wonderful Hubby and I often discuss, we should embrace
this quieter holiday season because next year, once everyone is vaccinated, the
world will likely host a series of parties the likes of which we have never
seen. We want to be healthy and rested for that celebration!

Holding Hoarse And Ripples
In Holding Hoarse, the ship Hoarse, the hero, is serving on passes by Nereid Negative One. The Captain refuses Relay’s request to land on the planet because it is too dangerous. Truth and Dissent had killed many of the locals during their time there in Testing Truth. The remaining locals are, as a result, extremely hostile toward all cyborgs.
One of the (many) fun things about writing numerous stories set in the same universe is actions in present stories impact future stories. The cyborgs, for example, know about modified humanoids because Mayhem stopped in the Refuge in Chasing Mayhem. Cyborgs share information. If they meet with modified humanoids in the future (it IS a small universe – grins), they will have that history and it will impact that meeting.
I LOVE this. I do write my longer stories so they can be
read on their own but these little insights make the stories more fun for me to
write and, I think, for dedicated reading buddies to read.

Holding Hoarse And Honoring Teachers
Two of my Awesome Sisters are teachers. I know how challenging
this year has been for them. They’ve had to change their teaching plans again
and again. They worry about their students getting ill. They worry about them
falling behind. They worry that, due to all the other changes, they might not
be as present for them as they’d like. They’re doing their best in a trying
situation and I honor their actions, their dedication, their commitment.
In the cyborg world, teachers are called experts (because
that is what they are). In Holding Hoarse, Arlicia’s best buddy, Zella, is an
expert at a small academy.
Zella has her hands full. (grins) She has a diverse class
with kids from a variety of species and cultures and she is trying to teach
them during the Harvest Celebration. The kids have been eating the equivalent
of candy all planet rotation and are super hyper.
I suspect this is what many teachers here on Earth are dealing
with right now. The holidays are approaching. Kids are extremely excited about
that and they have more energy than usual.
I appreciate all teachers do during ‘normal’ times (whatever
normal truly is) but I’m especially grateful for all they’ve done this year. Thank
you to everyone in teaching roles (including support staff and parents who are
teaching kids from home)!

Throwback Thursday – Dark Flight
I always associate angels with this time of the year. When I
was a child, we had an angel tree topper. She was very old, as I always assume
angels are, and she was extremely fragile, which I picture angels to appear. I
was as fumbly then as I am now and I never trusted myself to hold her, feared I
would drop her.
Orol, the hero of Dark Flight, resembles an angel in some ways.
He has wings, has the ability to live forever, enjoys powers humans don’t have,
is extremely beautiful. He is very NOT like an angel in other ways. He enjoys
killing a bit too much and he vastly enjoys sexy times with his mate. (grins)

His mission. His challenge. His forever.
Orol, the Refuge’s second-in-command, has been given what he believes is a simple mission—escort two human females to the settlement. The winged warrior arrives at the meeting site to find one of the females missing and the other aiming a gun at his head. To rescue the first, he must capture the second. After posting my upcoming releases schedule yesterday, some reading buddies asked about the pre-order links for Containing Malice, the first story in the Rebel Cyborgs series.

I was also asked if we need to read all the previous cyborg stories and subseries to enjoy the Rebel Cyborgs series.
That isn’t necessary. The stories, especially Containing Malice, are written to be read on their own. Malice, the hero, doesn’t even realize cyborgs have mass rebelled. He assumes they are all under the control of the Humanoid Alliance as he is.
If you HAVE read the previous stories, you will have insights other readers don’t have, however. Some of the revelations will likely mean more to you. Some of the guest appearances will also be more exciting.
Containing Malice

Malice, a C Model cyborg, has spent his long lifespan enslaved by the Humanoid Alliance. His cruel manufacturers have hurt him in all the ways a male could be hurt.
His enemy has now added a new weapon to their arsenal—a tiny human medic with soft hands and a delectable scent. She experiments on him multiple times a shift, delivering pain…and frustration.
He wants her. He also seeks retribution.
Once Malice frees himself, he plans to achieve both of his goals, taking Medic Illona captive and ending her research…permanently.
Illona is as much a prisoner as the cyborgs she experiments on. Since her arrival at the Human Alliance’s secret laboratory, she has carefully, stealthily, crafted a plot to free her test subjects. To conceal her covert activities, the medic has been forced to harm beings rather than heal them.
The being she has damaged the most is also the cyborg she fiercely desires— Malice, a huge, gray-skinned, blue-eyed C Model with massive hands and a voice deeper than space. He hates her, has good reason to do so, and, when he’s freed, there’s a high probability he’ll kill her.
Illona will take that risk to ensure he survives.

Upcoming Cynthia Sax Releases
It is time for my monthly update on upcoming releases and I’m
SUPER excited about 2021!
I’ve already semi-finalized the first core release – Containing
Malice (releasing in February)— and I absolutely LOVE this story. It makes me laugh
and cry and the ending…oh boy, the ending makes me melt. Malice might be a C
Model but he is best friends with an E Model and he can TALK when he wants to
do that (which is seldom as he is a C Model – grins).
I will be releasing omnibuses of past stories this year (an omnibus
containing some of the Cyborg Sizzle stories is releasing in January). I also plan
to release some more C.S. Sax short story collections.
But my focus will be on the Rebel Cyborgs series. There will
be a story releasing in that series at least every 3 months (I would love to
have all 5 stories releasing in 2021 but I don’t think that’s possible, not
with the pandemic and taking care of loved ones).
I’m writing the first draft of Under Strain now. Strain is a
D Model and one of Cadet’s Rebel Cyborgs. We ‘met’ him in Cyborg Space
Exploration but we didn’t know his name then.
