Staying Sane in Tough Times

When the Blog Queens Judith Ashley and Sarah Raplee were
brainstorming ideas for 2018 monthly themes for the Genre-istas we were
committed to being up-beat so how did we come up with “How To Keep Going in Tough Times?”

Because there is a secret to surviving tough times that
is up-beat in that when we are on the other side of it, we feel better.

How I kept writing after Mum passed away by Dora Bramden

Mum passed away early last year and I had such a hard time being able to concentrate and keep writing. I had to accept that grief and pain was now a part of my life. Being a writer I researched other’s experiences and what was best to do. Basically, accept the excruciating pain is real and be kind to yourself. Exercise and keep going with the things you love. I went to plant nurseries and spent

My Path Less Traveled by Barbara Rae Robinson

I've never done anything the easy way in my life. Why should
I now? My writing path has been strewn with rocks at times, but I've persevered
and I'm still writing.

I look at my milestones as the decisions I've made and the
paths I've taken over the years. The rocks have been the obstacles.

I rejected the career in science my high school counselors
had laid out for me. I got married

Money Translated Into Retirement Years

By Linda Lovely

This month’s topic revolves around what you might do if you were a millionaire. But, is that really wealthy these days?

Maybe not if you’re either looking to retire or have recently retired. If you fit in one of these groups and have actually managed to amass a net worth of $1 million (excluding your home), the answer could be you should either keep saving or at least stay

The Power of Something New

by M. L. Buchman

"Whatever you can do, or dream you can do, begin it. Boldness has genius, power, and magic in it. Begin it now."
-W. H. Murray in The Scottish Himalaya Expedition, 1951 (commonly attributed to Goethe--and actually based on a very lose translation by John Anster in 1835, but now maybe we're getting a tad bit esoteric. [I did go back to the German to see just how loose, and let

COUNTER-INTUITIVE GOAL SETTING by Sarah Raplee

Hi, I'm Sarah Raplee,
author of surprising romances that cross genres into suspense, paranormal, fantasy and steampunk.

Last year I wasted a lot of time and effort setting yearly,
monthly, and weekly writing goals. I read lots of articles on goal-setting,
most of which repeated the same basic, sensible advice:

Set
realistic-but-not-easy goals
Begin with
your Big Goal and then

Rolling in the Dough?

by Courtney Pierce

When I was in my twenties, success was defined by having a
million dollars in the bank—cold cash, not this artificial Bitcoin stuff
we have now. The amount sounded like a lot of coin to me at the time,
though. Thirty-five years ago, it was. And a pound of bacon was well under two
bucks back then. Have you priced a pound of bacon lately? How about an
artichoke? And when did a

I love and dread milestones by Paty Jager

Milestone: A significant point in development

I'm a goal oriented person. I set goals and claw my way to making them. Sometimes it isn't pretty, and sometimes I fall short. But when I meet a goal and the rewards I get from making that goal is recognition or acceptance, I thrive.

But there are times when I meet a goal and I'm not satisfied. I've had several of those moments over the years and

If I Were A Rich (Wo)man...

As soon as I read the topic for this month, that song from The Fiddler on the Roof came to mind:

If I were a rich man, daidle deedle daidle
Daidle daidle deedle daidle dum
All day long I'd biddy-biddy-bum (not sure what that means, lol)

If I were a wealthy man
I wouldn't have to work hard... (well, much as I like the odd day of not doing much, I'm not sure I could do that forever. I still
