Easing through Summer by Paty Jager

In our neck of the woods, the last week of July was brutal! It was over 100 F for several days. We aren't used to that. Usually we have a week where we are in the 90s, hovering near 100, but never over. The good news about the hot weather, it kept myself and my cover designer inside. ;)My latest Shandra Higheagle Mystery, Capricious Demise, book 15 in the series is published. I had the idea for

When Readers Demand More! by Kathleen Lawless

Like a lot of authors, I started out in traditional
publishing and slowly made my way to the world of independent publishing.  I really like the direct contact with readers
and the chance to respond to their requests.
I also like the ability to set my own publishing schedule and publish as
many books a year as suits my writing speed and my lifestyle.

This freedom means I have the ability to

Hangover Husband by Bonnie Edwards

HANGOVER HUSBANDYears
ago, I came up with the delicious beginning of a book. I think I wanted to
submit it to Harlequin for one of their spicy lines of romances.

The
opening pages were about a young woman waking in a huge hotel room bed, alone.
She heard a droning sound and realized that there was a man in the shower, and
she had a cigar band on her ring finger. The marriage licence on the floor

Summer Projects Keep Me Busy by Jan Scarbrough

Sometimes a simple suggestion leads to a two-year writing
project. That’s what took me and my character Hank from the setting of the
McKenna Ranch in Paradise Valley, Montana, into Gallatin Canyon which is across
the mountains. It didn’t hurt that my husband and I had spent three days in
Gallatin Canyon at the Covered Wagon
Ranch in 2016.

To gather the back story for my series, I read a few

Villain Archetypes by Sarah Raplee

Those
of you who know me well, know as a reader, I have one important rule. Don’t
annoy me. Annoyance will pull me out of your story in a nanosecond. One
of the things that annoy me is villains who have no real motivation.

Being
“evil” or “insane” is not motivation. Even serial killers have reasons
for what they do, as the television series, Criminal Minds,
demonstrates.

Mental
illness creates

Hero Villain Cops

by Courtney Pierce

Today I'm compelled to twist around this month's theme of "villains you love to hate." Instead, what about the thousands of real-life heroes I love who are being cast as villains?

One of those is a cops saved my life in 1969. Ever since then, the police have been elevated to a position of utmost respect in my eyes.

I spent
part of my youth living in the small

Psychological Thrillers! by Pamela Cowan

THRILLERS!

I read
them. I write them. I love them. Why? Because thrillers invade your headspace,
bring drama, excitement, suspense and even fear. Emotions I don’t often
experience in my day-to-day reality.

Neuroscientists
believe our desire for suspense is like an addiction. They say we crave
adrenaline and the release of endorphins and dopamine. Feel good chemicals that
follow strong emotion

My favorite Villain is a Heroine! by Peggy Jaeger

So in deciding who my favorite villain is in literature, the only name that consistently showed up in my head really isn't a villain, according to the book reading world. It's a person whose actions are so wonderfully vile and self serving, though, that she really must be declared a villain.
If you know anything about me you've probably already guessed I'm talking about Scarlett O'Hara.

She

Villains Creep Me Out!

by M. L. BuchmanUNDERSTANDING THE VILLAINWhat can I say, they totally do! I've never understood the villain. The Hitlers of the world make no sense to me. Every writing teacher, and therefore most writers, say that the villain makes perfect sense from the villain's own point of view. No one is inherently evil. This helps some but, for me, it is also a fallacy. I don't enjoy reading (or watching
