A Year After
A year ago, Texts From Last Night, went viral. We weren't expecting it, we weren't expecting anyone to get our jokes or the meaning of the three digits before the message. We were two Detroit kids, with dreams of being lawyers.
We went from less than a thousand hits to over a million in a matter of days. Currently, we average five million pageviews a day.
I was studying for law school finals and all the attention we were getting was making me rock back and forth in my library chair with...
This Is A Book Blog
I need to stop talking about pizza.
Currently reading: If on a winter's night a traveler by Italo Calvino. I usually find addressing the reader to be an overly simplistic device, but Calvino does it in a way that blends into the prose flawlessly. There is no way to tell his story without the inclusion of the reader as a participant.

Reading with iBooks
I got a Wi-Fi iPad. It can't connect to the internet at my house! I'm probably going to return it for a 3G iPad.
THAT BEING SAID, I've downloaded three books on iBooks. The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao (first chapter has the word "GhettoNerd" in the title, I know I'm going to like it), Wolf Hall and The Help.
Here is a sample of a page on iBooks:
The Good Points: Press on any word with your finger and the options "Bookmark," "Dictionary" and "Search" appear. When you bookmark words or...

The Princess Bride
I haven't finished reading The Princess Bride because it has disappeared from my room. I have a feeling my sister has something to do with this.
So now I'm reading Wolf Hall. There are way too many "C" words in Wolf Hall. Cromwell, Cavendish, cardinal, I keep flipping back to the list of characters to figure out what's going on with the plot. I almost NEVER have to do this in novels. That being said, the five pages I can read until I lose sight of the plot are great.

Nerd Girl of the Month – Charlotte Simmons
Since we have Charlotte Doyle for Serious Badass of the Month, I decided to go with another Charlotte for Nerd Girl of the Month.
Simmons is a bit older than most of our "nerd girls" but whatever, I make the rules. Simmons was never considered as Serious Badass of the Month because I wanted to strangle her during most of the plot. She's a big dork, she's poor, she doesn't know how to kiss, she doesn't know how to dress, she doesn't know how to socialize, she doesn't know how to hold her...
Serious Badass of the Month – Charlotte Doyle
April is Avi's month. The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle's heroine – Charlotte Doyle – is the Serious Badass of the Month.
I picture her hair a little less feathered than in this cover.
First, I must point out the author, Avi [birth name Edward Irving Wortis:], has Alan Arkin for a cousin. This fact in no way influenced my decision to make Doyle SBoftheM but it definitely didn't hurt.
Second, they're making a Ramona and Beezus movie but they haven't done one yet for True Confessions...
