ACTING IN THE RAINBOW STATE
IT’S been my distinct pleasure to be Daniel S. Janik, actor, with Setsuko Tsuchiya, actress, in “The Rainbow State” of Hawaii. Our acting opportunities have been and remain highly varied. Part of that, I believe, is a consequence of living in Hawaii with its multi-culturality. Being European by descent and my partner Japanese, Hawaii offers us a multitude of cultural experiences both in terms of our professions and our daily life.
For example, we’ve played in Hawaiiwood’s K. Simmons Production of STATIC (2021) — https://www.imdb.com/title/tt15420946/ -- https://ksmediagroupinc.com/the-stati..., a film portraying the struggle of a veteran challenged by dementia, notably Alzheimer’s disease, and his unique solution that involved an old radio that to others only plays static. In it I depicted Will Gardner, the curmongenous veteran, and Setsuko played Edna, an enthusiastic, ever-positive Asian-American resident of the same “rest home” as Will. It was a delightful experience under Producer/Director Kenny Simmons and cinematographer/editor Robert MacLean, co-sponsored by the Alzheimer’s Association.
More recently, we’ve played in the Kurt Ken Kaminaka Production of THE PERFECT ILLUSION (anticipated 2023 release) — https://www.imdb.com/title/tt18690318/ –, a film about a suicidal man who finds a new reason to live after he stumbles upon a curio shop that transports him into the future. Soon he finds himself risking his life trying to save the woman of his dreams, but struggles when he realizes that reality may not be as it appears. In this one, I play the ethically-wavering Dr. Stevenson, along with Setsuko in a a gala party scene, with Setsuko playing an inveterate Charleston-era-style party-goer. It was, again, a wonderful experience working with a host of outstanding cast under Direction of Kurt Ken Kaminaka and Lymari Graciano.
Being performance and competitive ballroom/Latin American dancers, Setsuko and I have had the pleasure of appearing on screen as background dancers in the 1998 FANTASY ISLAND – Episode 4 – “Dying to Dance” — https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7xYAE... — and are looking forward to appearing in the upcoming K. Simmons Production of FINDING KATE — https://ksmediagroupinc.com/finding-kate — both as supporting actors and featured dancers. CALL ME IRRESPONSIBLE…
YEP! The Call of the Wild (actually the call of anything and everything outside of home) is weighing increasingly heavy these freakishly undecided days, what with prices rising, a growing war underway, another wave of COVID beginning, and tons of questionable news, advertisements and social posts of dubious truthfulness being slung about. Who to believe? Who to trust? I’ve posted about my own perception regarding diminishing customer service and increasing “Fast Eddie” sales to the point of selling products the storefront don’t even have. Overall, it’s a lot of change to take in, and change is never easy.
So I’m not really irresponsible. I didn’t book that [sigh] tantalizing cruise, or that weekend in a fantasy COVID-free hotel in paradise. I didn’t impulsively book a sardine-packed tourist train across the USA, or a similarly sardine-packed tour bus promising a visit to all 48 mainland states. I didn’t visit my favorite restaurant, or go for one of those long evening walks along the ocean sadly crowded with non-masked visitors from literally hundreds of other countries. Call me irresponsible, yes, but I did go shopping at the local grocery store before 6 a.m., washed the car I haven’t driven for over a week and planted some tomato plants on my deck. I checked my emails, blog-posted, chatted briefly online, and read and added to my Facebook pages. Oh, yes, and I began contract negotiation to act in my fourth movie for 2022: the K. Simmons Production of FINDING KATE — https://ksmediagroupinc.com/finding-kate — a six-part, made-for-television-and-subscription/pay-per-view-movie-channels series. So, yes, call me irresponsible…in my own little way.
You might think with COVID-problems increasing, that acting and filming might be GROSSLY irresponsible, but, in fact, it’s probably the safest thing I do nowadays. All actors and actresses called to the set must be (1) fully vaccinated; (2) have a negative COVID-test that morning on set before anything else; and (3) must wear a mask and keep social distancing except for the few moments in front of the camera. Certainly safer than going to a store or restaurant, in my book.

THE WEIRDING WORLD
RESPONDING to an article in today’s BBC News entitled “Tech Tent: Are we really on the cusp of a VR revolution? — https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/w3ct..., I’d have to say a definite, “Yes,” though not exactly as VR companies and Meta envision. More like envisioned in my Amazon-genre-bestseller, THE EDGE OF MADNESS (Aignos 2020) by Raymond Gaynor. And exactly how is that different, you might well ask?
Well, for starters, I believe that the missing “key” is projected, interactive, multi-sensory holographic “VR.” Anything less doesn’t deserve to be called VR. As for Meta and the multiverse, why do we need VR metaverses, when the multiverse as projected from Super-String and Multiverse Theory already exist in the “real” world. What we desperately need to do in regard to the former is seriously focus on developing projected, interactive, multi-sensory holography, so that pandemics or not, world wars or not, on earth or in space, we can interact in realtime and realspace together with others. In regard to the latter, the multiverse — check out physicist Michio Kaku’s take on Marvel Comics Multiverse at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FGP4K..., then my own concepts of birth, interactive holographic education, psychosis, death, the soul, the afterlife, and the multiverse introduced in THE EDGE OF MADNESS, soon to be expanded upon in my next book PROPHECY.
The Ancient Greeks introduced the first of three basic ways we can know and understand truth: through 1) authority (enlightened, scholarly philosophical pursuit using logic and reasoning, called logos. Then in the 1700s came 2) science (repeatability). In the 1960s came 3) statistics (“summary” truth relying on probability and computers). More recently, as portrayed by Facebook’s Meta and Marvel’s Dr. Strange movies, is Super-String theory that predicts at least 9 dimensions of space, one (the 4th dimension) of time, and one uber-dimension, the eleventh. Mathematically applying all 11 dimensions allows physicists and cosmologists to “explain” such otherwise Gordian phenomena as “the Singularity,” what existed before the Big Bang, blackhole-to-blackhole “wormholes” and a variety of enigmas existing within our own universe and experiential timeline such as birth, learning, imagination, psychosis, death, the soul, and where we go after we die.
Humans have never taken to change, whether physical or theoretical, very well. That doesn’t help us quickly to understand our unique, though possibly actually common, life-situation. Rather it results in times of chaos and regression, and, ultimately, when all previous explanations fail, acceptance and eventual growth and understanding. The Ancient Greeks introduced the first of three basic ways we can know and understand truth: through 1) authority (enlightened, scholarly philosophical pursuit using logic and reasoning, called logos. Then in the 1700s came 2) science (repeatability). In the 1960s came 3) statistics (“summary” truth relying on probability and computers). More recently, as portrayed by Facebook’s Meta and Marvel’s Dr. Strange movies, is Super-String theory that predicts at least 9 dimensions of space, one (the 4th dimension) of time, and one uber-dimension, the eleventh. Mathematically applying all 11 dimensions allows physicists and cosmologists to “explain” such otherwise Gordian phenomena as “the Singularity,” what existed before the Big Bang, blackhole-to-blackhole “wormholes” and a variety of enigmas existing within our own universe and experiential timeline such as birth, learning, imagination, psychosis, death, the soul, and where we go after we die.
Humans have never taken to change, whether physical or theoretical, very well. That doesn’t help us quickly to understand our unique, though possibly actually common, life-situation. Rather it results in times of chaos and regression, and, ultimately, when all previous explanations fail, acceptance and eventual growth and understanding. PLANT WISDOM
Something’s going on with the two tomato plants growing on my porch: They’ve suddenly stopped turning red! OMG, does that mean they’re gonna turn blue before November? Ha, ha. No, really, there’s actually lots of GREEN tomatoes remaining green, and they aren’t likely to turn red or blue in the near future. Can plants join political parties? Can they even party at all?
Maybe they’re pondering onion-izing alongside Amazon and Starbuck workers, but instead of going for more water, fertilizer or cleaner air, for alien resident “green cards.” And the right to representation. Maybe even the vote. Climate-change deniers beware! You’re talking about the “workers” who clean our air, provide clean potable water and food day after day, year after year, eon after eon. Or even protection against non-discrimination. If I were a plant, I’d work for special domestic rights! But then I’m not a plant, and plants, especially my porch tomatoes, are generally a silent bunch.
Me, I think they should strike, stopping cleaning our air, providing potable water and food for individual VISA cards without credit limits. Really. Imagine if plants had a direct input into our monetary system. It would certainly be a “greener,” more earth-oriented and sustainable world. Support plants! Vote Green!

THE BIG, THE SMALL AND THE UGLY
I’VE been hearing reports that the James Webb telescope is being readied to look back in distance and time to the very formation of our unique expanding-bubble-universe; back to when things physical first formed and formed the framework for everything we know and experience today.
Equally exciting are reports that CERN’s Large Hadron Collider (LHC) update was in its final stages, promising a look at the very forces that hold the interactive wave-and-particulate world as we know it together. The issue at stake: Whether the Standard Model of Physics with its four basic forces (the electromagnetic, weak, strong and gravitational) will be accompanied by a fifth as yet not understood force, discovered but yet to be confirmed. Will this impart a new physics that also explains “dark matter?”
Finally, the ugly, though, in fact I don’t really think of it as ugly in and of itself, but more in what humans may do with it, the “it” being accumulating information suggesting that humans are more closely related to bonobos than chimpanzees in the evolutionary scheme of things. Or, as “ugly” might suggest, a truly sad, inseparable social admixture of bonobo cooperation and chimpanzee competition gone amuck. Only the future will tell.

THE BUSINESSIFICATION OF THE WORLD
I’VE had the unique experience of watching America transform from a nation of creative manufacturers and traders into a nation ruled almost entirely by business — an industry that neither creates nor produces, bent almost wholly on “making money” typically through management. I watched with horror the businessification, sometimes commercialization, of health care, then food production, then technology, then education, then transportation, now politics. What’s left from which to “take profit?”
Not that all business adheres to today’s concept of “take everything, give nothing back.” In “olden times” (five decades ago), business had it’s grand side, namely providing services, and its darker side, at always increasing profit, paring off anything that couldn’t provide both. But something fundamentally changed when business itself almost went bankrupt, surviving to today by intruding into humans services to fund a whole cadre of individuals taking everything, giving as little back as possible. Call it personal pride, quality-of-service, dedication or simply “being human,” that which has made us human is now constantly being sacrificed for money and power, the two great illusions.
