The Naked Film

The Naked Love Film is an erotic animated art film, by veteran animator Sara Koppel. The film is not done yet, but every Friday they upload a new episode.

The film is a surrealistic trip through different peoples erotic meetings, a tribute to everyone's individual sexuality and to sex without oppression, guilt or shame.

Their manifesto:

"With "Naked Love" we want to continue the 20th centurys sexual emancipation from before raw capitalism and puritan reaction destroyed the fun.

We want to make a film that is challenging the traditional stereotypic porn view on sex, a film without the bad vibes of sexual professionalism or the artlessness of amateurism.

The handdrawn animation movie is the tool, because it is an artform that is as fantastic, funny and touching as sex itself, bringing the erotic to life in a passionate, aesthetic and ethical manner."

I love this initiative: it's beautiful and it fights the clichés of porn. It shows that porn is not only the mainstream porn we know, but a wide variety of arousing projects like this one.

I advise you to check out the episodes of Naked Film on their Vimeo channel and to follow the project on their Facebook page.

Here's one of the latest episodes

Twilight or 50 years back in time

I've just watched the trailer of the new Twilight movie – Breaking Dawn

It's all that I fight against. It goes against every feminist principle. I will keep doing what I do so that there aren't any more appalling movies like this one when my daughters grow up, because I certainly don't want them to grow up with the idea that their goal in life is to find a guy a 17, get married to then have sex and then immediately get pregnant. It's so sad to need to reming people that a woman can be someone without a man!

This gender stereotyping is seriously what's wrong in our society and having to suffer this kind of old-minded product makes me want to make as much feminist porn as I can!

We Are Man

A few days ago, the British website We Are Man uploaded a video in order to launch a viral campaign against gender violence.

You can watch the video here – what do you think?

The idea is good: of course, any initiative to fight against violence is a good thing.

But let's have a closer look: representing the "Jackass"/Internet culture and generalising it  to the whole masculine gender… Is that really effective?

My main point is about their "I Am Man" slogan, which is focusing the whole issue on the division of two genders, and thus I think it might even generate more stereotypes. Does it mean "real men" should be playing sports with their buddies and doing stupid things? Does it mean "real women" shouldn't?

So here we are, binary gender, Men VS Women. Why can't the slogan be "I Am Person – I don't harass/beat/rape… anyone". That would be more logical. Stereotypes are what generates violence in the first place.

Don't get me wrong, the intentions are good and the villains here are men who beat women, that's clear, but trying to make people identify with stereotypical characteristics of their gender only leads to confrontation against the other.

What does being a man mean?

Basically I agree with Holly Combe from The f Word blog when she says that "playing on machismo" and "glorifying the rules of the peer group" to fight violence against women "distracts from the good intentions (i.e. not going along with misogyny) by upholding a needless gender binary.". She also asks, and I'll conclude with this: "Is this a case of practical short-term gain for long-term pain and true equality never really being achieved?"

I Want Your Love

Travis Mathews is a director who focuses especially on gay men in an honest atmosphere, almost documentary-like.

In 2009, his series "In their room" won the Best Film award at the Good Vibrations Indie Erotic Film Festival and now his new movie I Want Your Love is in postproduction.

Below you can see a sneak preview of the film… What do you think? I love the simplicity and almost "rawness" of it.

!Women Art Revolution

This new film by Lynn Hershman Leeson, writer, producer, director and editor, is leading us back to the 60s and 70s to understand the developping of feminism in the form of art in this time of political turmoil. She collected hundreds of hours of interviews with visionary artists, historians, curators and critics who shaped the beliefs and values of the Feminist Art Movement and reveal previously undocumented strategies used to politicize female artists and integrate women into art structures.

!Women Art Revolution elaborates the relationship of the Feminist Art Movement to the 1960s anti-war and civil rights movements and explains how historical events, such as the all-male protest exhibition against the invasion of Cambodia, sparked the first of many feminist actions against major cultural institutions. The film details major developments in women's art of the 1970s, including the first feminist art education programs, political organizations and protests, alternative art spaces such as the A.I.R. Gallery and Franklin Furnace in New York and the Los Angeles Women's Building, publications such as Chrysalis and Heresies, and landmark exhibitions, performances, and installations of public art that changed the entire direction of art.

New ways of thinking about the complexities of gender, race, class, and sexuality evolved. The Guerrilla Girls emerged as the conscience of the art world and held academic institutions, galleries, and museums accountable for discrimination practices. Over time, the tenacity and courage of these pioneering women artists resulted in what many historians now feel is the most significant art movement of the late 20th century.

I'm pretty curious to see this movie, and see how feminism is depicted. Did you see it? What do you think? Did you know about the Feminist Art Movement?

You can know more about the movie on Facebook and Twitter

Name it, browse it, watch it

I've got 3 different things to share today:

First, I'm struggling to choose a title for my new movie, so I thought I'd ask the readers of this blog and all my followers! There are a few title options, and you can add your own, and vote for  your favourite title on this facebook poll.

Then, to celebrate the release of the official Erotic Bible to Europe webguide and let people know about it, I'd like to organise a little surprise Twitter contest!

Share your favourite erotic places on Twitter via the twitter share button on the site and after one week, 3 people among those who shared their favourite places will be ramdomly chosen and will win a copy of the Erotic Bible to Europe Book!

Your tweet will automatically say "@erikalust #eroticbible" so I can see who tweeted. So from today until next Friday June 17th, please share with us your favourite erotic places and help me spread this new project!

And last but not least, my online theatre, Lust Cinema, has a new look! From now on it will be much easier to find new movies, know more about indie porn directors and browse through sexy videos on the Lust Film Fest section!

Looking forward to getting your feedback on all these exciting projects!!
